Being a fan is hardly an excuse to not act like a decent grown up. You are not engaged in silly internet chatter among anonymous posters -- you are jumping on a 19 year old who may have had his life take a serious adverse turn when you can't possibly know the facts involved.

Leave the kid and the family alone. They are not anonymous in this -- they actually have something real invested in the situation.

But this is silly internet chatter. To think otherwise is delusional. We are fans….and fans talking about prospects is what we do.

And my calling out of his decision to participate in twitter and this forum to let it be known that he didn’t want real competition at the QB position is hardly overstepping any boundaries.

Reality is that this kind ‘recruiting position puzzle’ happens to numerous recruits in all NCAA sports. The vast majority however, keep a tight lip and either sign on signing day and take the challenge or quietly head the other way - to another school. They never play the media, like this, to threaten and challenge the coaching staff.

All this said, he does seem like a great kid. I was looking forward to seeing here at Uconn. It would have been terrific.

Too bad he can’t take back what he said about not wanting the competition. He needs a time machine.

If we don't sign Lagow, we might really have to start hoping PP gets the boot after this season. FWIW, Texans, even football people, have a LOT of respect for UConn and this state.
P may have to go. It would have zero to do with this. If there was something less than zero, it would be that..

Fwiw all uconn pics taken off his twitter. Time to move on and enjoy the class we have which is a good one !

Indeed. I am totally pumped about the incoming class.

I think, as a majority, we all believe RL should be a Husky. If he will be is a very different story.

Gotta tell ya, I couldn't really care much less if he comes here now or not. UConn now has adequate depth at QB. Not ideal, but adequate.

I've followed that trainwreck of a thread last Wednesday Afternoon. I even participated without realizing at first that He who should not be named was a recruit's father. Once I realized that he potentially was (Last Monday or Tuesday in a different thread, I think), I tried to stop addressing him directly. I think both sides (us fans and he) did a monster disservice to the process by enaging each other.

The writing was on the wall a week and a half before signing day that Lagow was reconsidering his options and it obviously had 100% to do with Tim Boyle. I thought it was dirty pool for the poster in question to paint Boyle and the program in a negative light, when he stated, "...the staff has offered a place to [Tim Boyle] that did not want to be [at UConn], was rejected by [BC] that offered him, and committed to Uconn because he had no other opportunities." (I'm reasonably sure that Pitt took another run at him) He then implied that Lagow was more tested than his incoming QB "competition" simply because he played high school games in what amounts to Memorial Stadium with a big scoreboard, in front of a few thousand people. Last I checked, neither spectators, nor the scoreboard is allowed on the field during the game. Plus, if he is more tested, why the concern for same-class competition? Once spring practice rolls around, all 24 of these kids are wormsh1t (Thank you, The Program) and they have to earn their way.

Lagow thought he was the only QB recruit for the class (per this poster). That's all well and good, but anyone who is at least remotely educated in recruiting is aware that a kid is fair game until he signs on the line which is dotted (and faxes it in). It should not be on UConn that Lagow turned away other recruiters after giving his verbal. UConn must do what is in the best interest of their program and if Lagow didn't want to commit with everyone else, he cannot expect (and to does not behoove UConn to keep) an open slot just in case. Whatever "respect" he thinks he's earned is mere hubris and UConn (rightly) should not pander to an 18 year old 3-star recruit merely because he verballed first or is from Texas. My opinion is that 3-stars is 3-stars is 3-stars, and if the recruiting services rate them as such, environment and HS competition are taken into account.

That said, congratulations to our incoming class. Don't let one individual take away from you that you are a part of the best rated incoming class in UConn history. Get big, get fast, and get on the field in order to make more history. Being a part of the best class carries some big expectations.

I think it was more to the fact that he wasn't going to be Qb #1 here, with the Boyle signing. That is a punch in the gut, IMO i don't think he would of started over CW but maybe he thought he could. As far as the competition aspect, I think his father said he had a walk-on offer from Alabama or something, so hopefully he can walk-on and compete there. Best of luck to Richard.

He should not have even expected it, regardless of where he went.

I think playing time was the main reason why he picked Uconn, I would figure regarding how poor our qb's have played, that he would have atleast a 50/50 shot of starting or atleast seeing the field.

Playing time should never, ever be assumed, even if its implied. If it was, that's on Lagow and his inner support circle. A chance to compete is one thing, playing time is something completely different and I do not buy for a second that Lagow was explicitly promised anything further by this seasoned coaching staff.

How highly regarded was Drew Hensen going into Michigan? By many accounts, Lloyd Carr was no fan of Tom Brady, and Hensen still could only break into shared duty status. Everyone has delusions of grandeur in Early February. Showing what you've got in practice dictates how close reality can approach those delusions.

if you look at the qb's and look in the direction the staff is going for prototypical size for the position they play, plus being the only qb coming in. Playing time or to compete for the starting job would be high on his list I would think. That's in my opinion what he was thinking, whit, and cochran or 6 feet not prototype for the position. I believe the staff has said they wanted prototype, hence boyle and taylor 6-5. That's what I was referring too, but I'm not the Lagow's so can only speculate on that.

I said it was silly because it is. I tell some of my best friends that stuff they say is silly all the time. You want respect, then show some. There's nothing worse than someone lecturing everyone else about civility when they constantly post like a jerk. My 2 cents.....you have a very thin skin.
I think you both have thin skins but, for what it's worth, I like your avatar better than Butch's.

I wish we could all get along. I have no idea what's going on here, but of course that's not going to keep me from adding my 2 cents. Nothing I've seen or heard from P over the last two years would cause me to give him the benefit of the doubt. In a he said/she said situation my first instinct is believe the other guy. I hope the program doesn't suffer any repercussions.

You are obviously logical in your approach to this subject and illogical in your expectations of this group!

He changed his twitter picture and landscape today. Non-Uconn related.

he's gone. Az State has been in contact with him looks like his recruitment has been reopened and he is moving on. Good luck to the kid.

Anyone watch the White Sox on WGN with Hawk Harrelson.

Insert meme here showing Hawk and his strike out pronouncement - "He gone".

UConn has a fine recruiting class and the inclusion/exclusion of one player does not take away from the others. This young man's actions spoke louder than his tweets, Facebook posts, and Internet message board posts. He is going to face stiff competition at every step of life and there will come a time when his athletic prowess will not afford him an dditional leg up.

I hope this young man is at peace with his decision, whatever it may be, and that he can accept the consequences of actions within his control.

Big time programs have at least five quarterbacks and now UConn has five with three on campus and two coming in. I still hope Lagow comes to UConn but that is up t him and his family.

In all honesty. I haven't seen a tweet from him the last few days.

WVU is also in contact with him. Not surprising knowing Holgorson's TX connection.

The staff did what they thought was best. A deal is not a deal until it is signed.

"My word is stronger than oak." I think I have Lagowlash.

Back on the Courant football site there is a picture up from Lagow's twitter page.
Not being a twitter person could someone translate the picture that he loves to wake up to in the morning. Thanks.
