Looks like we might see some above the rim play this year out of our 4 man. Highlights on Sport Center.

I was in the camp of "excited we got him, but I won't expect too much other than some viral dunks."

But I gotta say...

That video raised expecations.

He's so athletic. If he can even do basketball semi-competently, he'll contribute.

Credit to him: hes got a quality looking, modern, 3 point shot. Decent release point, not elevating too much, little left hand flick in there. With reps he could become solid.

Still no evidence of ball skills and those dunks wont be as easy outside of pick up. They werent really trying.

But putbacks, backdoor lobs, and 3s will be MORE than enough to see the floor if he can pick up on ollies defense quickly and rebound.

Even if he sucks, well be on sportscenter a couple times. Well worth the scholly

It's funny, but you're right about "modern". A lot of these guys I see and I think, "why is their release point so low?" But you look at Curry and that guy flicks some from his chin, it seems, so . . . .

He looks like he plays angry and that's something this team has missed since Bazz. We need bullies out there and physicality. Hopefully he can bring that. We know Adams and Vital like to chirp and that's good but now we can hopefully have a physical presence

Ya, the three point shot has changed alot. Ray Allen style shooting with a really really high jump and release point is out of fashion. Players are not taught to shoot like ray at all any more.

Basically because in an old style shot you get less of your momentum going into the ball because at the top of the jump parabola (high release point) the is no upward movement left. It requires more arm movement.

With a modern shot with legs moving into the ball on the way up (but released lower), players can shoot with more power from farther away accurately. They dont need to use the arms much different to shoot from 28 ft away, just use a little more jump.

The disadvatage is that mid-range shooting that requires a very high release, players must learn almost a completely different form. The 3 point shot wont work, its too low. But in an NBA that doesnt value long 2s, this form is perfect.

IMO korver and klay are the two to look at for close to perfect perfect shooting.

Theres a really good youtube series that breaks down modern shotmaking.

That's it, man. I just hope he can get on the Niels career-path – unselfish defense and rebounding, and eventually knockdown 3s. Throw in some viral dunks and we'll all be justifiably thrilled.

Give it 20-25 years.

It will creep up on you like nothing you've ever experienced.

And one day, even though you think you still look like you did at 21, you'll realize what you've been looking at in the mirror and calling your "abs" are really the reason you haven't been able to look down and see your balls in 15 years.

Don't understand why many have said he'll be nothing more than a practice player this season. He is going to play and probably going to play a lot.

Leapers need to be paired with a great guard which we just happen to have.
because they really can't create themselves.
Besides hops he needs good hands.
Their job is two fold if the defender fears you the guard fininishes himself if he bites on the pentratration than you finish with a slam.
This kid along with Adams is going to give coaches nightmares.

Seems like a good place for me to bury my skepticism about whether this kid can actually play - I'm not sure what this video is supposed to demonstrate that we didn't already know, but I appreciate it nonetheless and there is definitely a part of me hoping that he's somehow the next Aaron Gordon, even if I'm fighting the idea that this kid on a basketball court is going to go like Conor McGregor in a boxing ring. Rebound, finish the opportunities created for you, and don't be a liability on defense. There's an opportunity for immediate playing time, gotta earn it though.

Because he only has a year of JUCO experience. The other power forwards have high school experience. Way better!

Too generic to think HS is better. I mean more than likely better coaching for Josh Carlton than he got at Puma but that's only assumption. Having played JC many moons ago I played against much better talent there than in HS although at times much less fundamental from some teams and coaching. But it's no different in HS as many kids just aren't taught the game there either. I wouldn't underestimate his 18/9 in JC all that much he will bring something to the table and his maturity/age helps.

Hard to disagree. We knew he could dunk uncontested versus Juco players and now we know he can dunk uncontested versus college players.

He is undeniably a world class athlete. We have a great blank slate for the staff to mold. My concern with the earlier tapes was his hand eye coordination. If there are 5 bricked bunnies in a 3 minute highlight, what does his game film look like? We should all have very high hopes but low expectations.

Expectations shouldn't change but do you and champs think he is the last player on the bench and will be nothing more than a practice player? I find it strange that many on the board have been saying that.

These highlights are better than his JUCO highlights I saw and it's nice to see him in an actual game setting dunking so explosively and attacking the rim. My expectations have changed in the sense that I thought there was a chance he could start at the 4 but now I think he can be penciled in as the starting 4 after watching that clip. Or 5 if Ollie goes small.
