Have you paid any attention since the year ended? It's been a freefall of terrible news and bad signs of things to come.

So yeah, a little good news is a good thing.

You sound like the kind of person who trashes the free continental breakfast because you think you're omelette-worthy. But you aren't.

You realize this kid was an Oregon commit, right? He had poor academics and HAD to go to JUCO not because that's his level of play. This is a high major talent, even if a bit raw. His grades have improved, so we're taking a shot. Could pay huge dividends.

Williams had a lot of trouble in the classroom in high school, then sat out last year. It explains his lackluster recruitment, but with his athletecism his ceiling is still very high. How close he gets to it will depend on his rebounding and shooting.

I worry more about trouble outside the classroom. But all things considered, he sounds like a keeper.

I'm excited. When is the last time we had an athletic freak (boatright doesn't count)? I wish he was coming on campus earlier than the Fall though.

I agree that he's an exciting get from a recruiting perspective. But he's not a polished star that will step in and be what the annual lottery pick freshmen are. People dismissing him are being ridiculously pessimistic. People predicting he's a sure fire starter on this team who will be a huge contributor are being ridiculously optimistic. He looks like a bit of a project with huge upside. He even said Ollie wants him to be the team's Terry Larrier....next year.
 
I'm late to the party here, but surprised there are no Jeff Adrien comparisons made yet. Adrien made his name as a high energy rebounder and putback specialist. What he didn't have in height or vertical leap he made up for with his gumby arms and sheer determination. Not a great foul shooter or midrange. Seems like Kwintin may follow that mold, time will tell if he can play well for UCONN.

I've watched a couple of videos of Kwintin and a few things come to mind:
-He seems pretty beefy to have that big of a leap. Usually the guys with a 44" vert weigh 150 pounds. He can defend the 4
-(As one other poster mentioned) He's gonna have to get more efficient on his put-backs. Seems like he had a strategy of volleying the ball to himself until he could get it in the hoop. That only works in the California Penal League, won't work even in the American.
-He looks like he's on a friggen pogo stick! He's not just got the jumping abilities, but he is super quick off his feet.
- People have mentioned him playing as an undersized 5, which seems way less than ideal. Put him on a person who is his size so he can beat his defender to every rebound. Give him a mismatch opportunity.
-There have been some comments about how much time he will get. If he doesn't get much PT, he will still be pushing our young bigs in practice. Creating a competitive practice environment for all those young guys will be extremely important for their development.

I got this feeling also about outside the classroom/off the court issues hope we're wrong.

You don't want to get to April 15th like Kevin Ollie did. There isn't a great pool of prospects in the Spring and Summer - particularly if you thought you had 4 guys for a bunch of rising years. Grad transfers and late bloomers don't make you March Madness slots. Chillious add didn't impact greatly in this frame.

For Cobb and Whaley to be added to Carlton; Anderson as a 4th G; and misses on the highly rated flotsam that gets loose from Programs. The most problematic component is the buzz on 2018 looks challenging. That's where we need to be thankful that both Killings and Chillious is on board. It's going to take 2-3 solid new kids in this class to rev up back to rankings.

A few posters have made very good points in this thread to back that opinion. I have nothing against Vital he's going to be a very solid and productive player for UConn this year and years to come. Quite frankly, you dropped the ball on this one Chief.

Nice try I'm not gonna take the bait on arguing who's the bigger UConn fan. That's something a casual fan would do. While I know you're a UConn diehard, reading your posts you don't know much about basketball nor possibly much else. We have a saying at work, who's the bigger idiot the actual idiot or the guy who's arguing with the idiot. With that said, I'm tapping out on this one. So long Chief.

It would be awesome if he could play some 3 too. I wonder who has a better handle, him or Polley.
 
We don't need the moon and the stars down low, just tough nosed players that will stand ground and fight it out for the ball. I believe that something will pan out for us better than what we've had. It's summer and I am optimistic.

He will be 23 by the time he steps on the court for us. He was a basketball vagabond who probably once thought he would never lace them up for a D1 school but he certainly seems to have matured and has stuck with it.

I'm keeping it real. I know he was a D1 recruit and grades got in his way but to his credit he worked to get back to this level so good for him and I hope he does well but I'm not getting excited until I actually see him play. Time will tell.

Don't take it personally. It's his new thing. He called me a casual fan on the football board, too. It's like "Confir_ed", but more annoying. Anyone who is a member of the Boneyard is, by definition, not a casual fan.

It's his version of "fetch". Stop trying to make "casual" happen, Chief. It's not going to happen... (insert Rachel McAdams meme here___)

We have a handful of guys who didn't play basketball last year. Including 3 of our own plus the Cornell transfer.
