"I wasn't really thinking about the American [Athletic Conference]. I was really set on the Pac-12 or the ACC," Williams said Sunday from Anchorage. "And then I got a phone call from Kevin Ollie.

That's the KO I remember on the recruiting trail from last year. Very nice to hear all the great things we know about him still resonate and that's big considering this as an example of what he has to overcome with every recruit i.e. conference.

This is an example of just how much harder HCKO and his staff have to work to overcome the way these kids look at the AAC. Great job!

Or an example of not giving opposing coaches any time to refute KO's pitch.

It's great that KO connected with the kid, and I'm glad he's saying those things. Now he has to fulfill his promises, love his players, and help all the kids he's recruited succeed on and off the court. If not, well, we've got a lot of young forwards competing for minutes and some are going to be unhappy. If we get another big group of departing transfers next spring, the negative recruiting will get worse.

I'm cautiously optimistic - but not yet ready to celebrate. Glad Kwintin is onboard! Now let's see things happen on the court, and let's see players talking about how close the UConn family is.

I sadly was thinking the same thing - probably more to it than this - but article represented as a one phone call deal - as oppose to closing a long recruiting battle. But, glad to have him aboard. We now have a stable of 6-6 to 6-8 guys who we need to develop to compete against 6-10 guys for major OOC games.

Scott Burrell wasn't just an athlete, he was an all around sports stud. Ridiculously skilled at multiple sports. You don't get drafted in the first round of MLB and NBA because of athleticism. He was also a star highschool quarterback.

I'm excited for this kid, but he's nothing like Scott Burrell.

Someone I respect maintained that football might have been his biggest upside sport.

It may be important to the casual BB fan - who starts - but winning basketball games is all about production.
The casual BB fan only cares about who Chillious and Killings is following on twitter.

If he rebounds and defends as well as Giffey I'll be happy. Short of a 6-9, 6-10 interior beast I suppose this is OK.

We have a lot of roll the dice guys on the roster so far. This increases the chance that one of them can play UConn level BB.

For a while, it seemed like KO was offering every point guard on the planet, and it looked like we'd have a glut of guards. Now it looks like we're going into the season with 4 guards and 8 forwards. Kinda reminds me of the old Denny Crum Louisville teams, where it seemed like there were always four 6-7 to 6-8 guys and a point guard on the floor.

Yeah, or the Nolan Richardson 40 minutes of hell Arkansas teams. Or famously, the 88-89 Illinois team. No player over 6'8" on that team. They only went 31-5.

I hope the hell that's what he has in mind. If this team is walking up the court or holding the ball and lazily passing around the 3 point line we are going to get killed. Push, push, push, every damned possession, and substitute every few minutes.

I wouldn't substitute every few minutes. Ruins the flow but yeah I think they want to run. They have the athletes. But for that to work we need to rebound

I would love to see us actually run. If nothing else, it would be way more fun to watch than the 60 point games we have grown accustomed to.

First off, I'm more than the casual bball fan I'm a diehard UConn fan. I have no idea what you're really arguing with me about but then again I find the majority of your posts to be confusing to put it nicely. If Gilbert is healthy he will start with Adams at the guard positions or Vital might get an occasional start if Ollie goes to a three guard lineup to start games. A few posters have made very good points in this thread to back that opinion. I have nothing against Vital he's going to be a very solid and productive player for UConn this year and years to come. Quite frankly, you dropped the ball on this one Chief.
