Kimani: Calcaterra "by far the best shooter we have right now"

He then says Hawkins isn’t far behind, somewhat contradicting “by far”. But it seems Joey will get some minutes. Certainly he’d be a great zone buster. No matter how you slice it, UConn can now put out a super fast, athletic team or a team loaded with shooters or anything in between.

I almost got the sense that he said it as much to light a fire under Hawkins as to motivate Joey.

Calcaterra can't find a beach? He won't find one in Storrs. But there are a few about an hour away.

In a pinch, Diana's Pool is minutes away.
Used to love those drives down to Diana’s Pool as soon as the warm weather hit.

Calcaterra may be much more dangerous here. Good players creating open shots for him will help his game tremendously.

You read the quote from Jackson saying how he enjoys playing alongside him. Two areas- transition 3's and drive and dish 3's from Jackson to Calcaterra. We saw the transition 3 pass from Jackson to an already squared up Calcaterra for a 3 ball in the scrimmage video the other day.

Jackson’s quote is great, talking about how all the guys are working so hard to improve during this time. That is the culture Hurley has preached and seems like this team is buying in.

I may be reading too much into it… but not much mention of Newton lately. None at all in this article.

Guys like Jackson, Sanogo, Hawkins and even Joey, Clingan and Karaban have gotten the bulk of the local media attention lately.

Still only August, but I’m just curious about how our big time transfer/presumed leading ball handler is panning out.

It will come. Everybody eats in the off season.

Ultimately, this team will only reach its potential if it's hitting 3s at an efficient clip, especially if Sanogo gets consistently doubled and it opens up a shooter. Don't care who those shooter is whether it be Joey, Karaban, Andre -- really whoever -- if you are hitting outside shots you deserve minutes. Just because Joey was seemingly a "throw in" body at the last minute doesn't me he shouldn't play big minutes if he does something better than anyone else on the roster.

Diana’s pool is an insult to someone use to San Diego beaches

Great beaches 1.5-2 hours away and water this time of year is warmer than anything in San Diego

We still don’t have a 40% shooter on the roster but we have a lot more in the mid 30s now than last year … so there’s a better chance someone gets a hot hand.

It helps that Bouk and more importantly Martin are in the NBA, while others got looks. Jackson who has NBA talent took notes, and passing it on.

Those are the building blocks of the program for sure.

Guess we aren’t bringing in one more scholarship player for this year? Start of the school year is right around the corner

Was thinking the same thing. Seems odd that Dan Hurley said a couple times that we’d be bringing in another guy but it hasn’t materialized.
