Nice to have state politicians that support their schools, unlike in Connecticut. It’s also how VaTech got the ACC bid that was offered to Syracuse.

I wouldn't say exceptionally stealthy, I would say reasonably stealthy. (Is collusion a crime?)They will need to be exceptionally stealthy about this as the one thing that would damage the P-2 would be getting caught in collusion.
As the saying goes, "if you have to ask, you can't afford it". The BIG is an ideal but wholly unrealistic dream. UConn should still try to attain AAU status if possible (and may need to play nice with BIG schools to that effect), but we will never be on the BIG's radar unless one of our teams beats one of theirs in a tournament...ah, that's right, it already happened, then we dropped off their radar. Our path to survival does not involve the BIG as savior. If this is the new reality our leadership should find out what the cost would be for B1G membership, then find a plan to make it work.
True. Bear won titles sitting in a tower eating pudding.Idk - he’s 73, has a system. As long as he hires the right people to run the ops and sits as a key figure in recruiting and decision making, it may be enough. Bar is low at UNC and his name alone will attract talent. Not a college FB fan but I’ll be tuning in for UNC.
And the way Virginia Tech got in the ACC ahead of Syracuse. One of the X factors is state politics. That’s how Baylor got into the Big 12 back when the Southwest Conference and the Big 8 came together in the 90’s. These types of local politics may affect the outcomes for schools in Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida and perhaps other states.
Virginia is a very large fan base. It is also precisely the kind of flagship state university that the BIG covets.Virginia, coveted by the Big Ten and SEC, is picked 14th in the ACC preseason poll
It’s all about football! except when it isn’t
Chicken or the egg a bit too - they will become a better program when in the B10 in all likelihood. Let’s not forget the DC market.Virginia is a very large fan base. It is also precisely the kind of flagship state university that the BIG covets.
Heck, they were anxious to grab Rutgers based upon that and nothing else.
Anyway, consider that, with a veinous infusion of BIG or SEC $ just what that program could become.
Even if it is only the top end of the bottom third in football, that is still a welcome addition to either/both of those conferences.
They pretty much stink now. Will never sniff a championship in the Big 10. Just another Rutgers.Chicken or the egg a bit too - they will become a better program when in the B10 in all likelihood. Let’s not forget the DC market.
Everybody claims stepping up a league will bring improvement. The Big is still waiting on Nebraska, Maryland and RU.Chicken or the egg a bit too - they will become a better program when in the B10 in all likelihood. Let’s not forget the DC market.
Are there any schools out there right now that have a chance of winning the SEC or B10? Doubtful. They pretty much stink now. Will never sniff a championship in the Big 10. Just another Rutgers.
I wouldn't say Virginia has a large fan base. They're in a large, important market. And they have other important credentials.Virginia is a very large fan base. It is also precisely the kind of flagship state university that the BIG covets.

Welp, Indiana and Illinois finished 2nd and 5th in the Big Ten and there are plenty of programs out there better than those 2. The SEC seems more difficult to crackAre there any schools out there right now that have a chance of winning the SEC or B10? Doubtful.

sec prob has their pick of the litter and theyd certainly take any of FSU, Miami, Clemson, or UNC before they invited UVA.Virginia, coveted by the Big Ten and SEC, is picked 14th in the ACC preseason poll

We've gone over this a lot, but they took Rutgers based upon it being in the NYDMA, coupled with having 9 million people in the state of New Jersey.Heck, they were anxious to grab Rutgers based upon that and nothing else

I agree on SEC getting their choice.sec prob has their pick of the litter and theyd certainly take any of FSU, Miami, Clemson, or UNC before they invited UVA.
If it works out like that then we drew a full house on the river lol but Assuming FSU and Miami leave then the ACC would prefer USF to UConn in that scenario so they maintain a Florida presence.I think the question is whether anyone after these four leave. And if that holds, is that enough to lure WVU, USF, and Cincy from Big 12 along with UConn. Still a decent league if that holds. Certainly a rival to Big 12.
That’s the thing: too many people get caught up in football itself to see that conference realignment isn’t set off by one thing for every school. Just like how Rutgers and Texas got invites for two completely different reasons.Virginia, coveted by the Big Ten and SEC, is picked 14th in the ACC preseason poll
