Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

Oh man. You are assuming no other institution wants to better themselves.

You have competitors, all over. The days of conferences coming to you are over. Now you have to go to conferences and it's a race to the bottom just to stay associated.

This is all conjecture and reading tea leaves, I just don't think the Big East can make it in the current environment. It doesn't have enough revenue options. It needs bigger schools and higher revenue sports.
The Big East should reconsider the hybrid model. But with whom, and who could they interest as a suitor to broadcast those games?

The usual suspects would be Temple, USF, Memphis, to go along with UConn. With Army about to head to the AAC, maybe they'd be interested along with Navy, UMass and ECU? Navy Army could be FB only.

That really worked the last time.

I agree with everything except the potential of basketball to save UConn
The fact that the D1 schools get 17% of the money they earn from the second best tournament in the world .is crazy to me . Just increasing that number to 50% ( not the 80% football gets ) UConn would have
earned $30,000,000 for their conference this year . Spaced over 6 years . However a basketball team that averages 4 units a year is enriching its conference by $20,000,000 a year. Every P conference Would be a bidding war for top basketball schools with that simple adjustment . It’s not that BB isn’t valuable but the NCAA devalues it on purpose . That effects zero championships events or administration cost only the cash distribution to member schools by that body .

Averaging 4 units a season is an entirely unrealistic proposition in men's basketball. That means you are in the Elite Eight each year. You get upset in the first round just once and it's impossible to make it up without a final four trip and a championship in the next two seasons (just to get back to that 4 unit a season average). For context, Kansas who hasn't missed a tournament since 1989, has only 14 Elite Eight appearances in that 33 season span.

Beyond that... it's not the NCAA "devaluing" the men's tournament. The NCAA realizes 85% of its income each year from the TV rights to the men's tournament. Sure they could give the schools more based on its performance, but it's coming from somewhere other than the NCAA as only 5% of the tournament revenue is being kept by the organization for administrative expenses. The performance units are the bonuses given to the high achieving schools, but the NCAA gives an additional 485.9M to the Division 1 conferences, schools and athletes without regard to the performance of the schools in the tournament, approximately 2.9 times what is given based on performance.

The big east schools, other than us, have no FBS football to worry about financing. They can finance their while AD with basketball. They are not going to trade their traditional peers for a southern football conference that won't even get them more money.

Gonzaga can take an Olympic sports invite for 3 million and be happy with it, we can't. We couldn't do an SMU deal because we didn't bring a new cable boxes, not because we couldn't afford it.
You do not know this. Do not assume that they won’t. Goergetown, Villanova, St Nohn’s, Gonzaga to Big 12 BB only ahead of next b12 media contract?. How would this board feel about that?

The Big East is going to be a lot closer to the NEC than the ACC in 2 to 3 years
I think it will take 4 - 6 years, but I agree.

Our only hope is to be dominant and build a larger fan base that is willing to stream our content. That is a major task.

LOL. Ya, it reminded me of this classic:

Not an outlandish take, the Big East was coming off an anemic showing in 2018-19 whereas the AAC had a solid year. The guy wasn't really going out on much of a limb with this prediction at that particular point in time.

Don't assume that they will either. Again, it all depends on the next tv contract and what a basketball share in the B12 is worth. Until we know those figures, all of this conjecture, though you seem to convinced otherwise.

Nothing matters. We’re not getting into a P4/5 conference unless things drastically change. Why can’t you just let us be happy!
Ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise?

Maybe football and basketball will separate...different conferences...

Football power is now so concentrated that there is no team in the current AP Top 25 that won't be playing in the P4 next year...B1G, SEC, ACC, or Big 12 and Notre Dame as Indy.

Where are the G5s ?

Here....The Preseason basketball poll loves them...Preseason 2023-24 AP Ranking of Top 25.

FAU, Marquette, Creighton, UConn. SDSU, Gonzaga, St. Mary's, Nova, St. John's...all ranked in poll.

The PAC got blown up and has nearly every football team ranked

“How do you take larger groups and make them smaller to drive forward?” Petitti asks.

This quote from the B1G commissioner is indicative of what the future holds, both on a national level and at the conference level
