It comes down to money. Always does.
The value proposition right now suggests ND with its scheduling is better than without.

Pushing on ND could force their hand and push them to Big 10. If ACC was certain ND wasn’t going there, they could play hardball.

I guess the question is, will ND go to Big 10? History says they wouldn’t, but there’s a lot of money on table.

ND going to ACC would give that league instant credibility and easily P3 status.
Would it stop Clemson and FSU from leaving?

ND doesn’t make that much from NBC. They are independent bc the alumni demand it.

Money absolutely matters but it’s NBCs money and alumni donations that are important.

The ACC can't now, but they learned nothing about ND's relationship with the Big East. ND could have single handedly saved the Big East and chose not to. They can do the same for the ACC now, and will choose not to, BUT they have cojones to push for Cal and Stanford to be accepted. If the ACC collapses loke the PAC it will be interesting to see if the Big12 is its next host.

I don't think the ACC needs to do anything with Notre Dame. If, as I expect, the NIL and Transfer Portal continue to dilute talent across programs, the era of SEC dominance is coming to an end. The ACC has a long-term agreement and a fairly good roster of schools. Play it out.

Who says they learned nothing ?
Again what discrete steps were they supposed to take? They’ve gotten ND FB games fir the past decade, and if ND wants to join a conference they are locked into the ACC for the next decade.

Would the ACC have been better without such a deal?

I get that no one wants ND to be independent, but the fact is that ND has skillfully played all sides so its position is quite secure.
 
Well now that the B12 expansion seems to be done for the moment, I just gotta say that although the revenue/money and the safe spot would have been nice (I would have taken it, don’t get me wrong)- that league is just lame . I just don’t think I could have gotten into football or bball games with that bunch of midwestern/western snoozer teams.

I hope/expect we’ll find a solid home in the future. Probably some satisfying re-configuration of the ACC/BE with middling revenue until the whole system breaks and looks completely different in a far off time. Until then the only thing we can do is enjoy the BE tourney (it’s a one of a kind event worth going to) and the Indy football schedule. Also the BE is looking to be a hell of an exciting and energetic place over the next couple of years. Will be fun to be a part of.

Or football breaks off into its own conferences and UConn basketball has a good home in the Big East.

The best outcome for the next tv deal would be the Big East signs with Apple. Let’s start building a subscriber base sooner than later.

Of the 14 AAC programs it would leave out Charlotte, Tulsa and Wichita State. Seems like the AAC would simply say join us, or don't. 14 AAC + 4 PAC + SDSU, CSU, Boise, and ??? 22 is the number.

And as crazy as it sounds, is that a conference UConn would consider rejoining?

Truthfully, yes. Football is the only real value at ND for a conference and the ACC took them in everything but. The look of that is embarrassing to say the least. If another conference takes that same deal because you wouldn't let them have their cake and eat it too, point and laugh at them rather than fret that you didn't take a deal that literally only benefits ND.

ND actually competes at a fairly high level in other Olympic sports and is a great fit for the ACC, as it was with the Big East. We mock them for hoops but the golden domers are golden. Lax champions. Women's hoops. Baseball. 26 varsity programs. Very similar to Stanford but supposedly better football.

Isn't ESPN+ strictly streaming? I don't think it is part of any cable service.

The CRA will not stop until the ACC finds stability and the PAC4 find their homes.

My guess is that the B12 and its media partners decided to wait on the ACC implosion before making its next move.

In the meantime UConn will keep the audition strong with football this fall and our BB this winter.

Per Pat Forde, the ACC has a meeting today. Might be one last time to flip UNC and NC state to accept Stanford/Cal/SMU.

While it sucks, I dont think this our last shot at Big12. String together a couple strong football years and if/when ACC blows up, you could argue that we would be better position for the Big12 to take than some of those ACC schools.

And if we dont get the invite ever (most likely), we can still band together with the left out ACC schools because I can promise you BC/Cuse/Wake will be left out when the ACC blows up. Maybe even VT or Duke also does. That is not a terrible scenario.
