Remember that UConn has an exit fee, which would be quite high for a non-football cut.

Give us $20 million per year, a bowl tie-in, a 5-6 game football arrangement, and automatic all-sports invite in 2031.
I think you’d have to take that. And full paying share beginning 2031
With no possibility of getting football in, DOA.

I can’t see fans accepting No BE BB and no Big 12 FB to offset.

BTW - this whole new wrinkle is because BY is trying to find a way to his choice into the conference.

This isn't toss the bait a treat for helping us catch our limit.

I thought you weren't allowed to play in another conference if your primary conference sponsors that sport? So we wouldn't even be able to stay in the Big East and join B12 for basketball only. What the hell is Yormark smoking and why does he think we'd even take that in the first place?
You can either join the conference or be independent. Which is what Notre Dame currently does. You cannot, however, move that sport into another conference if it’s sponsored by your main conference.

You know what would be funny if Yormark takes St John’s instead and they only have a fraction of our exit fee
If you recall, the conference as a whole wants to raise everyone's exit fee. That conferences would come for other Big East schools was a known threat.

Yall realize there will be 3 conferences on TV and competing for titles and the Big East ain’t one of them?

I’d take it

Only if they pay our exit fee and give us 10 million / a scheduling deal.

If they do that, sure.

Transition plan could work- even a long one… but they won’t offer it. They will say- screw off, Nova sounds good.
Nova would pass. They don't want to play 17th fiddle in a football league.

If they actually offer and say the words basketball only then Benedict immediately hang up the phone. If he wants to say no or laugh first then hang up, that would also work. Then if they call back have some kind of offer to make them like building an on-campus stadium within X number of years in return for full membership.

While the further concentration of power schools may add to the difficulty, our scheduling as a football independent has been far better than anticipated when we left the AAC.

After this season the CFP will expand to twelve schools. If we can somehow build something like what Houston did not quite a decade ago, UCF a few years back or Cincinnati recently, we have a shot at landing there (and as an independent, not sharing our take with conference members). It's a tall task but if Mora can build something we can a) make survival under our current situation much easier and b) become attractive enough to power conferences where it won't take both a massive sales job and the good fortune of limited competition for the open spot to land in one of those conferences.

Our only other hope is the professor working on the time machine (if that's still going on). Once he gets it working he can go back to the Fiesta Bowl, convince JH to fire RE before the game and then convince JH to hire someone like say Matt Rhule to replace RE.
The problem is that larger P4 conferences will leave fewer non-conference games to schedule and those that remain will likely be focused on traditional rivalries, such as Washington v Washington St, and cross-conference games as that is where the TV money is. UConn may only be able to schedule with independents and the second-tier conferences going forward.

This is garbage and the man deserves an ass kicking for his stunning lack of grey matter.

Anyways, the one shinning light in all of this is seeing the eventual implosion of the ACC and the rats like BC, Cuse, etc fall into even greater irrelevance.

I think UConn’s best shot is to use the next couple of years to get as flashy and committed to football as possible (generate buzz, like Co did) and work channels. The school has good fundamentals that would make it attractive but it has to change perception.

As for B12, I 100% believe he was interested in UConn and may still want us in this period or the next. B10 is a distant distant hope. Otherwise we’ll end up in some non-premiere league and won’t be able to compete in the long run in any important sport. There are years between that and where we are now, but the BBall only fans have to recognize that the Hurleys of the world don’t coach for places w no resources.

Well which is exactly why we cannot join Big 12 as basketball only.

Nice that our football program is being put on par with a school that hasn't played a football game since WWII.
