-> Yormark does appear to be a big proponent of Connecticut, but some Big 12 decision-makers are skeptical. They acknowledge the basketball brand but point out that UConn has not invested heavily in football.

The Huskies play on state-owned Rentschler Field, a 38,000-seat stadium that opened in 2003 and is in East Hartford, 25 miles from the Storrs campus.

And UConn athletics get a big subsidy from the university.

“All it takes is one president to cut that,” said one Big 12 source. “I just don’t see it.” <-

This could be resolved w/ one face to face conversation w/ State/University leadership or one well placed Op-Ed.

Tramel is no UConn fan from way back…
Is this why Mora is on about National Championships today and that he isn't leaving?

Could be… Tramel is carrying someone’s water w/ the football investment angle from another of his articles from few weeks ago:

>> Let me help ^^^

Note: Tramel has not been a UConn fan over the years (since Fiesta Bowl days)

RGIII should relay his experiences with our facility to the leadership of some of these schools

Danlow, how are you? I hope you are doing well and when football season comes around I'll be sure to stop by to say hello to you and the Mrs.
I’m hanging in, thanks! Trying to keep from wearing myself out over all this realignment snow! It’s been like 15 years of this and I’ve developed a tic over it, . It’s got to work out at some point, doesn’t it?? See you at the Rent!

Interesting points on the Rent being state-owned and the high subsidies being a risk that go in the negative column for B12 consideration. Hopefully Yormark is a good salesman.
If Yormak has to do that much selling of us, it makes you question why we want to go there to begin with.

"they don't invest enough. they spend too much money"

It's like some of these other schools don't comprehend that we don't have as much money to spend as they do because we're not in a power conference with a power conference payout...

Honestly, the fan experience will be miserable. It will be just like the AAC. A bunch of schools we have nothing in common with

I understand the sentiment. But it's a diffused, inconsistent "dream" for the other 60 schools. The SEC and B1G hold all the cards with the TV producers. No way FOX, CBS, ABC, ESPN, Apple, Amazon, etc. say to the SEC + B1G "well, you know...there are all these other schools that don't amount to much ad revenue, but we think for the overall health of the broader sport you should give them a seat at the table". JMO.
Of course it's a dream but it's still "possible". Another thing is that you need some quasi competitive programs to provide some decent competition (but mostly bankable wins) for the big boys because casual fans aren't going to be excited about 3 or 4 loss teams playing in November.

So you think we have more in common with a bunch of tiny Catholic schools?
Geography and a love of basketball are two big ones. And even though they're religious institutions, their fans certainly fit our culture better than the fans in a bunch of flyover states and Texans.

Exactly - Tramel (and others) is bring lazy. UConn's overall athletics spending is already middle of the Big12 pack - without the benefit of P5 revenue. One can argue that we actually invest more than almost anyone else. Sheesh.

100%, he's been nothing but a Uconn hater at every point in CR, going way, back like most of these out of state FB writers. He's probably still bitter that BE teams like Uconn and Pitt got into the NY bowls playin' out of an 8 team conf, with an 8-4 record.

Why doesn't he get some facts on what the UConn AD has done in just the last couple, with a new baseball, soccer and hockey facilities. Give us a reason and Uconn will continue to invest. The school spent a couple hundred mil to go all in on FB for a BCS conference, and then got lied to by the conference partners at every frickin' turn, while they invested and were maxing out the stadium at about 95% the first 10 years and more than competing vs. teams like Cuse, Pitt, etc. ... with 2 BE championships

Trammel's been a frickin joke with the same played out narratives like most of these haters who get to write fake news and will always find a source to co-sign his BS....... pisses me off, even though I'm fine with BE/ Indy as is for the time being and not as despersate as in the past as Amore article states......."woebegone " my ass you POS !...end of rant !

Like him or not, Tramel's reporting seems well sourced, and suggests to me that we are likely out of it.
Yea, this hurts. It makes me think that Mora piece today was a Hail Mary attempt by the administration.

That's why Rutgers and Vanderbilt will still be members. And 3-4 loss teams in the playoffs? That's the NFL which college football is becoming.

Probably one of the dumbest arguments I have ever read in my life, UCONN athletics runs a deficit, therefore they aren't worthy of the money that would relieve the deficit.:eek::eek:

I would counter that lame garbage with we excel on a shoestring, imagine what we could do with proper TV revenue.

Agreed - I think it's lame that .500/near .500 teams get into the NFL playoffs.
