At this point attendance is almost a moot point for Rutgers.

Moot in terms of media cash...but not so moot as a indicator of fan support.

Ruttie home schedule

BC...UMass...Liberty in OOC

Ohio State, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan State

I live in New Jersey so I talk to Rutgers fans all the time. They are grateful for the security that the Big 10 money gives them, but they know they “have to start winning.”

Keep in mind that the SEC (not a fan) does not use the same fanciful accounting method of the Big 10 (14), which includes a portion of gate receipts as part of their payout to pump up the numbers. Neither the SEC nor the ACC do that I have read.

BC will appreciate an away game in Piscataway as Addazio's staff has been recruiting hard in Jersey that last few years again, especially from the Catholics. It's good advertising for them, even better fif they win. Not that I want either team to win

Yep...Addazio has 16 Jersey kids on the roster.

Now has Bon Jovi playing over the speakers and Snooki posters in the locker room.

That would be an improvement. When he was younger, he had pictures of himself in a football uniform (CCSU if I remember correctly) or shirtless lifting weights/flexing in the office.

A good chunk of Jersey high school students go to Penn State, so they will always draw well at Rutgers. Michigan and Ohio State fans travel well and they have large alumni bases in metro NYC, so they will come in droves, too. Past those three, it declines as the football brand name and alumni network gets smaller with each school. Nothing unusual there.

“In the stands”.

That's the official attendance....as valid as anyone's because official attendance reporting is what it is, unregulated....as valid, anyway, as the losses reported by my business owner friend.

Who is "vehemently" defending Rutgers?

I point out that your picture is pregame...that is all....don't get your socks wadded up.

And you will note that I was the poster who posted the graphic of declining attendance.

I care less about Rutgers attendance...but do note that nobody reports attendance accurately.

Yep...an FSU fan on a UConn board...but I still grok.

A little like Heinlein's a Stranger in a Strange Land.

I never read any of Robert A. Heinlein's books. Are they worth it?

CL82...it was high culture a half century ago...like reading a sci fi Catcher in the Rye.

I wouldn't read it now...I'd as soon read Silas Marner or Atlas Shrugged (yech).

But, to be culturally literate...you should at least Cliff Note it.

FBS schools must “Average at least 15,000 in actual or paid attendance for all home football contests over a rolling two-year period.” Actual attendance is defined as scanned attendance; the number of people who enter the game with a ticket.

Paid attendance is a little more complex. In order for tickets to be counted as paid attendance, they must be sold for one-third of the price established at the start of the season or if a ticket sold for less than the one-third threshold is used to attend the game. People working at the game, such as vendors, security, etc., are not counted for paid attendance nor are players, coaches or cheerleaders.

I think that you can count on UConn using paid attendance...not scanned...to report to the NCAA.

The scanned attendance last season averaged 10,032...

"The school typically reports tickets distributed as the attendance for games, which was around 21,000 per game — certainly not good, but higher than the 2017 season. However, an average of 14,000 people actually showed up to games that year, 4,000 more than in 2018."

I suspect that from Rutgers to FSU to Michigan, the number reported is the one that looks best.
