Tuberville on Big 12 expansion, says #UC has made its pitch: 'If it's meant to be, it'll happen.'

When the hell do we pitch? Who is being pitched to? Ahhhh!
How do we know they actually made a formal pitch/presentation? They could just be referring to campaigning behind the scenes or letting the Big 12 know they're interested.

#ECU's inclusion in the Big 12 would mean big things for our university system and eastern NC.

Cooper is also running for Governor, so take this for what it's worth.

The critical moment better not happen when our AD is in the Bahamas.

We're drinking pina coladas. ;)
Hmm I might have to write another verse if this goes south.

The Pina Colada Song (UConn version)

I am tired of our conference, I mean it does kind of suck.
But I don't see a way out, without a whole lotta luck.
How did we end up here, when were really hot?
I thought back on how Louisville got the last P5 spot:

Warde had Pina Coladas, while watching girl's basketball.
He did not do any lobbying which is what caused us to fall.
If you like being in a real conference, with teams that you've known for years,
Don't trust the fan of the donuts or you'll end up in tears.

Now I don't blame Suzy, I know it sounds kind of mean.
But I expect that a "rock star" would have known the routine.
Nothing is given, to those who sit back and wait.
And when you think where the blame lies, it's not up for debate...

Warde had Pina Coladas, while watching girl's basketball.
He should have been working, but he was dropping the ball.
So now we're stuck playing Tulsa and likely will be for years.
We trusted the fan of the donuts and we ended in tears.

UConn has a very good following the NYC and Boston. You may know that our home arena in Storrs, CT is Gampel Arena. Well Madison Square Garden in NYC is known as Gampel South. Our fan support there is amazing.

This video is from our Elite 8 against Michigan State at MSG:

[MEDIA = youtube] 5gUcq6JDqW8 [/ MEDIA]

It was basically a UConn home game despite the fact that Michigan State travels very well. AMTRAK scheduled a special train from Hartford just to handle the crowd going to the game. I think it is fair say we have a decent presence there.

Take it a step further. MSG was, supposedly, St. Johns second home. The St. Johns' athletic department was so upset by the overwhelming number of UConn fans that filled MSG, that they actually changed their ticket plan. To purchase a UConn/St. Johns MSG ticket, one had to purchase a package including two or three horrible St. Johns games all, I believe, at Alumni Hall.

How many "away" teams have that kind of power?

Jim Penders was one of 500 Husky alums at 2016 #UConn Night at @CitiField on Tues.
500 UConn Alumni Converge at Citi Field in New York

>>“I think it says a lot, and I’m really encouraged by it,” said UConn Athletic Director David Benedict. “We need to build the passion in our fan base not just locally, but regionally and nationally. I think the fact we’ve had 500 people there tells me that we do have a passionate fan base and that when provided the opportunity, we’ve got fans that are willing to come out and support UConn. This was a great event, and we’re going to continue to mobilize our fan base in New York as much as we possibly can.<<

>>“I always like being around UConn Huskies in any environment,” said Penders. “To be with 500 Huskies in the Big Apple cheering on the Mets was extra special. We have more of our former players competing in the Mets organization than any other club, and so many of our alumni are in the New York metro area. The Wilpon family and their organization have always been great to our program. It was great to share a special night with UConn Nation in our home away from home – New York City.”<<

FWIW This was posted on TOS Main board:

"Word on the street is that an announcement could come as soon as next week. It looks like the 4 schools will be Cincy, Memphis, Houston, and BYU. Still trying to work out the details with BYU on all sports or football only. This comes from the same person that told me on July 1st that the Big 12 would announce they are expanding during the week of Big 12 media days and two weeks later they would anounce the schools. The marketing/merchandising departments of one school has been contacted by the conference and asked if they could have stuff ready by Monday if needed. I'm just sharing what I heard, so TIFWIW and don't shoot the messagenger."

That would literally be the absolute worst case scenario for us.

Sorry, but there is no single person who knew on July 1:
  • The ACC Network would be announced just before B12 media days
  • B12 would change their tune based on that announcement
That would require someone having an incredibly good source in the ACC and an incredibly prescient and connected source in the B12.

Not a key tweet, but I know top members of the ACC (who normally have an easy going summer) expect to be very busy the next 2-4 weeks, and traveling north. Lets hope its not just ESPN network stuff.

Time to get them really plastered one night while they're up here and make them spill the beans.
