Kevin Willard not happy about our return to Big East

CallMeBruce - Seton hall is a much better program than NC State - not even close
Willard is just elevating UConn to a higher level in the recruits eyes by "complaining". If UConn received an invite to a P5, the recruitment in that area would improve for UConn.
There's a renewed big fish in the party.
I like KW but he has to pull up his big boy pants and deal with it - he will be able to get some of the table scraps.
You don't hear Mike Anderson complaining

Really? No. Not really even close in the other direction.

Is there another poster who is so consistently wrong?

Seton Hall:
1 Final Four, 0 Titles, 3 regular season conference titles, 3 conference tournament titles, 13 NCAAT appearances

NC State:
3 Final Fours, 2 Titles, 13 regular season conference titles, 17 conference tournament titles, 27 NCAAT appearances.

It's not close.

.-.
Of course not. What are effectively mid-major programs like Seton Hall, St Johns, Providence have one more major in their way now. That was the beauty of the New Big East for those schools. They could get credit for winning without having to really beat anybody but Villanova. They got the benefit of being in a legacy league.
"Legacy League." Interesting term. Saying they benefited from the label, Big East, without having the mojo of the teams in the old Big East.

So by analogy, it is like you are the great, great, great (ad infinitum) grandson of President Woodrow Wilson who graduated from Princeton. Your academics would barely get you into Community College, but based on "legacy," you get admitted to Princeton.

Someone is seriously arguing that Seton Hall has a better basketball history than NC State? Probably thinks more people watch Foxsports than ESPN, too.
Yeah, i don’t know where that’s coming from. The Hall had that one Championship Game appearance back in the day, Terry Dehere, and that’s about it. They were middle of the road for years in the OBE.

Seton Hall did win the NIT in 1953 when the NIT was a real tournament and went to the NIT Final 4 three times. If you look at recent history, NC State and Seton Hall are pretty similar, although Seton Hall has won 3 conference tournaments since the last time NC State won the ACC Tournament.

Last Conference Tournament Championship:

NC State - 1987

Seton Hall - 2016 (also 1991 and 1993)

NCAA Tournaments since 1988:

NC State - 13

Seton Hall - 13

Last Final Four:

NC State - 1983

Seton Hall - 1989

Seton Hall was excellent all the way back in the 50's with Walter Dukes and Richie Regan where they were the #1 team in the country and won the NIT and they were excellent under PJ in the late 80's early 90's when they should've won the NCAA's. Outside of that there's been a lot of down years, Willard has done a really good job turning them around but there is no argument as to the better program, it's easily NC State.

there are plenty of top 150 players in the tri state area for seton hall to keep making the tourney with even if they get the guys we ultimately pass on. myles powell went to prep school in CT and we didnt want him for cryn out loud.

Sooo he’s openly admitted to being scared?
I see it more as UConn being spotlight hogs to him, taking his shine (of whatever they have). They all had it good, especially not having to fight that hard for notoriety. UConn already coming in with tons of it, (albeit somewhat dimmed, thanks AAC) and he knows it.

So he's more threatened than scared, if you ask me. Screams insecurity.

Nah he's from jersey

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

"NIT Final Fours" are a "thing" now?

Okay, if you must consider them important, NC State has 4 of those as well, one more than Seton Hall.

NC State is 17-13 in the NIT, Seton Hall is 8-18.
NC State is 34-25 in the NCAA, Seton Hall is 16-13.

NC State has:
2x as many national titles (including NIT)
2x as many NCAAT appearances
4x as many conference season titles
6x as many conference tourney titles
2x as many Final Fours (including NIT)
won more games 1,731 - 1,537
higher overall winning percentage .632 - .583
2x as many wins in the NIT
2x as many wins in the NCAA tourney

The only way Seton Hall even looks comparable, is if you cherry pick stats as you've done.

It's not close. Can we put this to bed now?

Hi Kevin

Now this is one of the things we’ve been missing! Some good ol’ trash talk that gets us fans hyped for the upcoming season!! Let’s go Huskies!!

I said from the beginning that Seton Hall will become UConn's hated rival.

Until the early 1950s, the NIT was considered the most prestigious or equivalent college basketball tournament to the NCAA tournament. By the mid 1950s, the NCAA was more prestigious than the NIT and eventually the NIT became a second tier tournament.

Generally, the top Northeastern teams would choose the NIT over the NCAA tournament, although some played in both until the NCAA prohibited it. In 1953, Seton Hall won the NIT and Indiana won the NCAA. In the final AP poll, Indiana was ranked 1 and Seton Hall was ranked 2.

So, NC State competed in 2 NITs when they were prestigious (before 1960) and Seton Hall competed in 7 and won one.

As for cherry picking the stats, NC State has not won an ACC Conference Tournament since 1987 or 33 years ago! Honestly, I really don't see any real difference between NC State and Seton Hall. Since 1987, the last year NC State won the ACC Tournament, here are the stats for NC State and Seton Hall:

Record:

NC State: 627-474 0.569 winning %

Seton Hall: 616-456 0.574 winning %

Post season:

NC State - 14 NCAA Tournaments, record of 13-14. Sweet 16s = 4, Final 4s = 0.

Seton Hall - 13 NCAA Tournaments, record of 16-13. Sweet 16s = 4, Final 4s = 1.

As for NIT bids. since 1987, NC State has had 7 bids and Seton Hall has had 8 bids.

Conference Championships:

NC State: Regular season = 1, Tournament = 1

Seton Hall: Regular season = 3, Tournament = 3.

AP All-Americans:

NC State: 2 second team, 1 third team

Seton Hall: 1 first team, 1 second team

This is exactly how I feel about the situation. One of the main things that we sorely missed while in the AAC was a regional rivalry. As much as we like to pile on them, and laugh at them for their lack of NCAA Tournament success, I want Seton Hall, Providence, and St John's to be good.

Have to agree with him. Seton Hall was just getting going and now we're probably going to put a stop to all that -- Exhibit A, Sanogo. If I were him, I would've voted against us too. Will make for a nice rivalry if they can keep their success going tho.
"It sucks for us to be honest with you"
"No one in this league listens to me"
"its not like im used to getting my way anyway"
Way to instill confidence. This guy has a loser mentality. He`ll never make that school an elite program. Could you imagine Dan Hurley talking like this? This forum would have an absolute meltdown.
Way to show confidence and leadership. Seton Hall wont get going as a program and itll have nothing to do with Uconn coming to the big east and everything to do with their weak willed cowardly coach.
