Kevin Freeman to be Named New Assistant Coach

The raise and promotion for Kimani will hopefully keep him here for a few more years but all signs point to him wanting to become a head coach in the not too distant future.
That's a good thing...means the program is doing well. You want staff that are in demand....means they are doing a good job...though it sucks when they leave. Hopefully he's here for #5 then gets a HC job.

You’re not wrong to some degree, but Hurley received that guidance from Calhoun, Tiger Tom and his father not really from the admin.

I agree that JC and Sr were his ear - more than the admin
My sources tell me that many alumni and some that are very influential were pressing for KFree
You need to know KFree to understand why so many people want him involved in the program. I am positive that Dan Hurley and Sr saw that from Day 1
KFree was given responsibilities at Penn State that Dan Hurley wasn't willing to wrestle away from his top 3 guys - now he has that opportunity and took advantage of it
Was money a factor? Yes to a degree
I am thinking that Dan Hurley really wanted to mentor someone and this was the person he chose - TB is a different personality - which is not a bad thing
WELCOME BACK HOME KFree
Can't wait to chat after the games and functions again!

So, how many Yarders have the DMV references going over their heads?

A move made to try and appease the vocal alum who remain loyal to the last head coach

Unfounded and absurd - where do you come up with these concoctions?
KO and KFree are 2 entirely separate situations and have nothing to do with KFree coming back
I can assure your conspiracy theory is 1000% wrong
But nice try
And I too hope KFree kills it

Normally, yes. But this is a naive take in today’s climate. There are many factors beyond the court to consider. Perception is everything and directives are coming from the very top. If two candidates are relatively close in Hurley’s eyes, it’s not unfathomable to consider that he was asked to “take one for the team” when deciding between the two. I was originally just speculating, but where there’s smoke...

Don't double down on stupid...it's a bad look

@UCDaveD is entitled to his opinion. Which he admits is strictly an opinion. What I want to know is why supposed insider @Chief00 liked it.

Smart of him to bump this. It’s a good read. The stuff about Watkins stands out and seems familiar.

Thanks for finding this. All things Kevin, very informative article by Dom Amore

“When I got to UConn and joined the staff,” Killings says, “Kevin was one of the guys I hit it off with right away. I just fell in love with his work ethic. In so many ways he bleeds blue. He is so proud of that place and what he accomplished there, and I just thought he understands the game. He’s great with kids. He knows how to teach, how to command respect.”

I forgot that he was Basketball Ops for that long (7 years). Impressive patience and dedication. Looking forward to seeing a member of our family being a massive success as a coach.

Is there anyone in a suit that looks better than Kevin Freeman? He has been a loyal husky in the past and I am very glad Dan hired him. The grief he shows in that picture with JC is hard to see but it is a measure of what UConn means to Kevin.

I loved Freeman as a player, but his resume just did not stack up against some of the other mentioned candidates. Leads me to believe that either Calhoun or wealthy boosters had their say and pressure was applied to Hurley.

If anyone thinks that UConn got their second choice here, they are probably a message poster - Freeman was the favorite from start to finish.
I think they got their 3rd choice, but I’m not even smart enough to know what a message poster is, so I guess it makes sense.

The amount of people who just spew this without any evidence at all is unbelievable.

You sure about this? Multiple insiders said otherwise. I’m happy with the choice, but let’s not call out people with historically good records as being wrong without concrete evidence.

Agree with you.. If you studied the language of the job posting..You knew the author of the posting was trying to facilitate a certain candidate's resume for consideration.. The Carpenter is playing Chess..Not Checkers..
