I blame Selvie, Jerome Dyson and Ace Whatandareserup..........just not sure in what order

Definitely not trying to start anything but generally Coach Calhoun locked up in-state and quality national and international talent. Hope our recruiting strategy involves a bit of benchmarking of Calhoun and staff or develops that type of prowess down the road.

You complain, complain, and complain again, but don't actually offer any insight other than alarmism.

i complain but i dont call for anyone to be fired. one is clearly more alarming than the other. or do your brilliant scouting takes give you a free pass?

He had excellent recruiting classes, but they looked a lot like the one Hurley brought in for this year. And he lost out on a lot of players. Toward the end, players like Kemba, Boatright, Roscoe, were not first choices. Not to mention even Giffey, Olander, etc., the players who filled in classes.

I can only think of a handful of big whales that were targeted from the beginning and which landed here. Guys like AJ Price, Rudy Gay, Ben Gordon, Andrew Bynum, maybe even Caron Butler, Rip Hamilton, Ray Allen. But that was over a span of 2 decades.

I thought Kemba was Calhoun's first choice , if not who was the 1st choice for pt guard?

This is ridiculous. Sometimes kids will cut uconn BECAUSE it's close to home.

You're saying the staff shouldn't be getting credit for locking up in-state players, but criticized when they don't. Let me repeat: this is ridiculous.

Do you think before you post?

Really? How many big time in state kids got away under Calhoun? We all know Gomes, but besides him there were not many!

Does David McClure count? He's a little before my time, didn't really become recruiting-cognizant until 2009-2010ish. Ridgefield kid, four years at Trinity, then Duke. No idea if Calhoun recruited him back then.

Didn't get recruited by UConn.

Marcus Camby

Yeah, and that was $$$ for sure. I worked with his dad Bob Camby, who was a HUGE UConn fan. UMass bought him straight up.

Really liked this kid's game. Shame. Curious to see what direction the staff goes now that it looks like we appear to be out on our top 3 wings...

Has anybody said we’re out on Andre Jackson? I know we aren’t presumed to be the frontline either anymore, but I have seen anything indicating we’re out.

This is a silly discussion. He didn't "next" us -- he nexted his entire list of finalists. So the thought that this reflects mostly on us, and not him, makes little sense. The two most likely scenarios are (i) his recruiting is going better than he thought, and he's now gotten interest from what he perceives to be the UK, Duke, Kansas level of schools, or (ii) something has happened to him on or off the court that makes his prior finalists not really interested. But the whining that this reflects on us when he threw us out as part of a group doesn't make sense.
This is what I thought too. Looking at video he was really such a good player at his position, with size and skills. If I understood correctly, he was quite underranked by the recruiting services because up til now he had been playing in the NYC public school leagues.

Well that and Marcus Camby was dumber than dumb and schools were worried he wouldn’t be academically cleared. He flunked out of Conard. My freshman English teacher told us he was probably the dumbest student she ever had.

Well, Marcus was smart enough to get to a place that let him be Marcus. He did well.

Well, sure. I mean, I don’t think it’s some great feat of wonder when someone is smart enough to accept a college scholarship to play basketball and (likely) be paid to do it. The bar ain’t really all that high there. But good for him for listening to the people that told him to do it and for following through. His bank account certainly looks better than mine does.

see above. and your excuse about being a hyprocite is BS. dont give me a 9th grade lecture on semantics. you insulted me for being unfairly critical when youve done it yourself. obviously i'm not expecting every kid to be a prisoner of their own backyard but akok and tre were clearly interested. those guys need to be closed.
Alright kids - take your balls and bats and go home

Most BY argument of all time.

Arguing about how many Connecticut kids Calhoun missed out on, on a NYC kids recruiting page.
