We’ve shot the second most threes this year in the conference, and our NBA-bound guard is taking over 7 a game. Our offense definitely has no issues getting guys threes, sometimes to a fault.

Joey made his threes earlier this year, has been missing his threes more recently, and he doesn’t offer much more when the shot isn’t going down. I think that’s all there is to it. Alleyne gets a longer leash because he plays great defense and is backing up Andre Jackson, who is in foul trouble more often than not. Joey has 2 guys ahead of him in the depth chart, Alleyne has 1
Are you actually connecting the volume of threes shot by this team to “no issues getting guys threes”?! Andre Jackson shooting threes with no defender within 15 feet and Jordan Hawkins’ fast-twitch shooting and ability to elevate have ZERO to do with Joey Calcaterra and the excellent point made by @giddyup upon which I expanded.

When Calcaterra was in the lineup we had no issues getting him 3's off of screens. If he was still making his 3's he'd be in the rotation getting those same 3's now. Hopefully he gets out of this funk because he adds a needed dimension for this team to make a run in March

That was before we played truly physical Big East teams.

Maybe his analysis was way off the mark, but insane? No. The guy is a fan just like you are, and you backed up your “insane” statement by referring to a statement made by someone else. Chill
Hey, c'mon. You're ignoring that he qualified "insane" with "absolutely." Oh wait...

There have been posts about the absence of certain posters in the Andre Appreciation thread, and suggestions that if Newton has an impactful upcoming game, the moveable feast of of perpetual displeasure will migrate elsewhere to find fault.

And here we are.
So many targets, so little time.

Team can't closeout a game?
Behold, a fan base that can't closeout a regular season.

["Oh, but that's different."]
It's not.

The prophets of doom have chosen their favorite horse and are riding it hard, functionally praying for what they claim they don't wait, so that they don't have to feel foolish for putting their efforts toward what they do want and then likely ending up disappointed.

Hey it worked in 2014.

I like both Joey and Hassan, but Hassan is shooting 21% from three, and maybe more importantly, only 51% on free throws. Come close games that will be a big liability down the stretch. If you combined these two's best qualities you'd have one heck of a player though.

Unfortunately for you, my point went right over your head.
Nope, I got your point and it's dumb. Joey is getting the same shots he got all of OOC play. If he was making them he'd play, he's not so he doesn't. There's no grand conspiracy going on like you claim

Conspiracy? I never said it or alluded to it. You clearly need to work on your reading comprehension skills. Go find a pi$$ing match somewhere else.

Before Seton Hall Saturday Adama and Joe C were honored for having passed the 1000 point level. With Richmond out after 7 minutes and Davis not playing I was surprised Joe C did not get 2 minutes. Sometimes coaches lose perspective. I know there are no participation trophies in college sports. It was odd no matter Hurleys excuses.

Sounds like he has a great family… glad I don’t have to make those decisions… who plays and doesn’t….hope he lights it up tomorrow

i know it's cherry picking but since georgetown he is 9-44 from the field, 7-27 from 3, 2-17 from 2, and hasn't taken a single free throw. i don't think one dnp-cd is the end of the world all things considered. Hurley's rationale made perfect sense. Tough, physical team. Not an ideal matchup for Joey's skillset. He'll get more chances but at some point, dude has to knock down some shots. The only person on this team that gets better looks than Joey is Andre Jackson

.-.
Does your round about comment mean Joey C was terrific before January 1st? ………….wild.
Kind of? Not sure what's wild about it. We are basically in March. Last time he made a difference was 2 full months ago. It's not because he isn't playing...its because when he's played he's looked bad.

I'm a big fan of Joey. When he was going during that OOC run, it was the most fun I've had as a fan in a decade.

I have a hunch he goes off and wins us a game in March.
He could, things should be easier for him in the tournament with more space. The Big East is uniquely physical, the rest of the country doesn't play Big East brand of basketball.

It’s amazing how this is true combined with the way the BE reffing is different than other conferences. Sometimes I wonder about this.

C'mon Joey, walk like a man, finish strong. I believe

In the years the BigEast performs in March it’s because we’re tougher. Other years we all flame out quick with too many fouls and rock fight offense. This year’s Big East seems very talented, hopefully it’s a good year.

Same.

Purely anecdotal, but the Big East appears to be overrepresented in the "really good at not committing fouls" category. Maybe it's actually because Big East refs are really good at swallowing the whistle?

  • Haha
Reactions: caw

Bad how? I know he’s been missing some shots, but so has the team. Until last night, anyway.
