That worked out for WKU when they brought in the Pres OC he brought the QB(Zappe) and WR(Sterns) and they’ve been lighting it up
 
Was hoping to get Harasymiak as DC. Don’t know if Charlton as OC makes that less likely
 
everybody seems to think that Hilliard is the son of Dalton Hilliard that played for the Saints. I don't believe that to be true because this
Dalton Hillliard played for UCLA and is from Hawaii. He was a pretty good safety in college though.

FSU also has an Asst HC whose only other responsibility is defensive tackles. The special teams coach handles the guards. Maybe that's why both their defense and special teams stunk.

Here's the thing - you can cover all your major positional groups with 10 assistants, which would include your OC, DC, and Asst HC if you have one. You can also parse those positions further like FSU did. I don't have a huge issue with a quality OC being QB coach, but I would prefer a dedicated QB coach given our situation and roll the TEs into a slash. I'm also interested in knowing what $$ are going where as that would give a hint to priorities.

Thanks for clearing this one up.

Did some digging and found that LSU great Dalton Hilliard's son, Dalton Hilliard, Jr., passed away in 2020, unfortunately, at the age of 29. He went to Nicholls State.

Agreed. This is huge for in-state recruiting.

A lot of those FCIAC kids go off to B10 or ACC. Now the New Canaan parents can trust one of their own. I think he coached at New Canaan, Greenwich, then to Illinois. Slow climb but im happy he’s home.

When I read his bio and Keith Jackson was his relative, I immediately went to the famous college football announcer Keith Jackson, not the football player!!

Not to be insulting but Mora moved on UConn early making first contact with DB. He was not even on Dave's list.

I know I'm always down on CT HS FB, but it's nice having a HC who doesn't actively detest it.

If you look at the last 5 or so graduating classes from CT there’s been a steady supply of a few 4 star recruits + solid 3 stars that always end up at P5 programs. We obviously can’t rely on CT to build the roster but if you can land someone like a Drew Pyne or Christian Wilkins (extremely rare case) it’ll help. A top priority has to be establishing ourselves as a viable option for any high level talent in New England and the tri-state area. Also, I have to imagine it’s a bit easier to sell a kid from NJ to to come to UConn than Texas.

Any sentence with George DeLeone in it is toxic. I had that internal vomit reaction before he ever came to UConn. We watched the Syracuse board intensely a decade ago and he never seemed to make the Offense work and intensely turned off fans and his Team with oddball theories. He was a bad ingredient - and I recognize PP/GDL had magic in their CT HS coaching relations
 
Lou's version may be a bit slanted.

RE did leave quite a bit to be desired in terms of personality but I doubt it was as clear cut as Lou claims (only offers for kids who attend his camp).

There were quite a few coaches down here (I imagine all following Marinelli's lead) who believed UConn should have been required to offer a scholarship to any kid that might be close to D1 level while at the same time, any kid who was good enough to land at an ACC (or other FBS) was too good for UConn.

I'm just glad that this silly, junior high school level feud is behind us.

It’ll behind us when a FFC 4 star shows up here. Until then, it’s CT at its best - fighting to protect local fiefdoms at expense of greater good.
 
What I find disappointing and ultimately foolish is that the head coach of the state U wasn’t able to outflank all of this over time.

Instead it became another example of the process first, results be damned.

Any state U must have a challenging environment juggling and stroking the instate HS coaches, it’s hidden part of the job. Just get it done- the HS coaches don’t need you but you’ll never know when you’ll need them.

Btw- I used to defend Randy’s approach to camp first, but that should always have been a soft policy. When the stands are empty and the losses are piling up you need to change your ways.

Yep. Lou Marinelli has zero credibility. He has always been anti UCONN. I am confident his son will be able to make headway into Fairfield County, and Connecticut in general.
 
as we contrast George DeLeone (as put in our minds again by Lou Marinelli) then Randy Edsall ... and get to John Marinelli + Nick Charlton, we arrive at an important theme - HAMMERED by our new West Coast arrival: New England football has leaped forward. We are well beyond the old fashioned thinking + closeminded Offense + process. Vive la difference. We have young guys - relatable to all recruits - in the house. New England football has woken up.

God bless Lou Marinelli and Lou DeFillippo. We might find Mora has infused our next generation of UCONN HC onto the staff over the weekend; and we continue to build Prep school relations and a pipeline from several needed markets of kids. We have to have a foundation of winning football AND interesting Offense/Defense/Specials.

Agreed. If Mazzone was hired as OC he was most definitely going to be the QB coach too. It makes a lot of sense for the OC to coach the QB's as the QB is the person that is running the offense on the field. They basically go hand in hand.

So true... but there was Hathaway choosing PP and this guy to run Uconn's offense....
