We need girth. Govan.
But it probably doesn't matter because Govan is a 2015 recruit and Ollie is leaving for the NBA later this week.
 
Quite frankly, I like that he doesn't over complicate the game - and likes the paint area. From a coaches perspective that what you want in a Big.

Also it looks like his AAU teammate will be at the game as well:

He looks to be a combo guard from a quick google search.

Matt Turner looks to be a combo guard. Shawn Coles big freshman center. Devin Marsh plays for East Hartford. I've seen him play once this year and possibly again next week as well. I thought he was better than Kahari when I saw them. He's a wing. SF or stretch PF.

Don't think any of these guys are going to be big targets at all.

Pemberton goes to my old high school, Xavier in Middletown. I've seen him play a few times and he's a pretty good player.
 
Georgetown landed Noah Dickerson, a top-60 PF/C. He's 6-foot-8, 260 lbs.

This is good news for us, since 1) Georgetown is our main competition for Govan, and 2) Dickerson and Govan are similar in build and game.
 
Gtown (PE-TOOWEY!) was our main competition for Govan? Does his dad teach there or something? I think Zona-Kansas might have a better shot then Gtown (PE-TOOWEY!)- I did not even know they still played basketball.

Yeah, they're still playing.

You might have lost track of them cuz they are in a new conference. They also went to a lesser known tournament called the NIT. Which is understandable because they finished behind some perennial powerhouses that are in the new conference: Creighton, St. John's, & Providence where they came in 7th.

You can find them in the Big East. It's called that because the folks in charge wanted a name showing size and location, preferring Big East or Little East, or something like that. However, they were both taken. So, they thought they would buy out one of the names and decided on the "Big East", as bigger must mean better and because it was a very famous name. So they paid $120 mil thinking they got great value, but didn't realize that all the real perennial powerhouses had left, especially one with 3 National Championships and lots and lots of the league titles.

So, the name doesn't mean as much any more, and doesn't get the same notoriety as before, which is why you probably thought that they aren't playing anymore.

Trust me, they are. You just have to look for them. Which is another story about this famous sports network called the "Mother Ship" which is where the powerhouses still play, but they and their new conference are on this new network which can be a little hard to find, if anyone really wanted to. But, that's another story for another day.
 
Don't forget about their two tourney wins in the last seven years.
 
Thompson has got a lot of talent coming into DC. But he seems to lose as many recruits to transfers as he takes in.

Strangely, this kid reminds me a lot of a 7 foot player whose name was Lake, I believe. He played for the now defunct Laurel Crest Academy in Bristol back in the late 1960's. You almost never saw 7 footers playing BB back in those days at the HS level. This kid was a legit 7 feet, and probably a ringer because he appeared as mysteriously as he departed. I think he may have only played for one or maybe two seasons at most. He was their version of Nadav Henefeld.

He was a fairly decent player, nothing special, but had pretty good fundamentals. He was slower than molasses, but hey, a 7 foot kid on a HS BB team in the late 60's meant nobody could guard him.

During his senior year, Laurel Crest did something they had never done in their history. They scheduled the local Bristol high schools, and I'm pretty sure they beat Eastern, Central and St. Paul's with the big guy. The games were fairly competitive, as I recall, but they won 'em all. They finally had their lone season in the sun vs. the townies.

Laurel Crest went belly up a few years later.

Govan sounds like "mouth breather" from Norte Dame- I'd take a player like that in a NY minute.
 
If Govan and Adams wanted to commit today I think the staff would happily end 2015 recruiting,
 
Most guys who carry that much weight don't get off the ground well. There are still plenty of them who are very successful for a reason. JG has decent low block moves, and a relatively soft touch for a young big. He is a top 20 guy for a reason.

With some training in the Champions Center, i imagine he will gain some height on his vertical, and some foot speed. And HCKO will will him to be great like he has done with many of our guys over the past 2-3 years.
If not, he will be a highly rated bench warmer...which isn't the end of the world. Don't forget, we won it all with Nolan at the 5 this season, and Nolan, likely much improved over the offseasons, will be a better version of himself by the time JG gets here....if he comes.

I trust KO to put a great team on the floor.
 
Even if he isn't a great athlete, these days, when you look at guys 6-10 or 6-11, you've got four categories

a) skilled
b) athletic
c) both (but one-and-done)
d) neither (but going to Rutgers)

We currently have a couple athletic guys who are developing their skills - wouldn't be bad to have a skilled one who might stick around a couple years.

I go back to his quote that he made a couple weeks ago about UConn, "...they have alot of big men". Not sure how our situation is any different than Georgetown, Dickerson is gonna play alot of 5 himself since they already have Derrickson in the fold and then both Copeland and White are really college 4s. They have a really talented frontcourt but there is going to be a battle for minutes there. I have to give JT3 credit, boring offensive system and his squads don't win anything in the postseason but he hauls in alot of talent.
