Jessie Govan Commits to Georgetown

“And they have a need for a center. They don’t really have any centers after this year, so there’s an opportunity to come in and play early. And it’s not too far from home, in the Northeast.”

UConn should consider recruiting Georgetwon's other center commits.

Meh, after watching Govan highlights last year I never was really into getting him. Hopefully it works out for him at Georgetown. I have faith we'll be fine at all positions under KO's tenure as coach. We can't get everyone and we already have landed a lot of talent. We will get our big guy.

Just maybe Brimah and Facey had something to do with it. With 3 years of eligibility and Lubin with 4 and even Nolan may be around for that freshman year. kind of puts uncertainty in a recruit. Especially if that recruit wants a quick path to the NBA. In fact we only lost one big this year and DD was a stretch forward (sorry Tyler).

Just maybe its the roster, and being a Championship team Ollie has a good rotation already in mind. Sure it doesn't stop uk, dooks, g-town and others from loading up but for some reason we seem to not need to beg or do just fine with what we have and get.

Calhoun never seemed dismayed at getting rejected by top recruits and Ollie appears to have inherited that trait. We will be fine, history proves that.

Or maybe he did not want to put in the work. KO is not one to candy coat the UCONN experience- we want kids that want to work hard- at Gtown (Pe-TOOWEY!!) you can get by being a warm big body. (@see all the Gtown bigs in the NBA- oh wait there is one).

Govan has stated multiple times that UConn has multiple bigs and he was unsure of playing time. Ollie has cooled on him for awhile. I know this upsets people because he is now a 5 star on 247. but like people have mentioned he does not fit our brand of basketball. Ollie has put his time in elsewhere (Diallo, Stone, Sharma, Thomas). I don't anyone on the staff is crying because of this.

Anyone with inside info on recruiting: I have read conflicting reports on where we are with Diallo. Some state we are the team to beat, others have him UK or KU. Any insight?

Whichever form of ascending floors without stepping up motionless stairs you want

edit other than ladders or ropes

I'm sure a kid really concerned about what conference he is playing in is really going to come down to the AAC and Big East to begin with.

What other centers were g'town after?

I don't have any real insight on where we are with Diallo, but I believe I saw that Kentucky recently hired an assistant coach who has ties to Diallo. How does Kentucky get away w/this time and time again..they must have 50 assistant coaches, unless this guy is replacing Orlando Antigua and maybe others he brought w/him to USF.

This only means that we'll get the 2nd. , 3rd or 4th option at that position and that player will have a better college career than Govan along with a championship. Next!!!!!
Yup. Was
going to post the same thing. We don't even know if Govan was option one, but even if he was we'll be just fine.

As much as I would have liked to land him, in the back of my mind I was thinking we might be better off with a longer and quicker athlete who can run the floor a lot better than he probably can.

they hired Rohrssen from Pitt who is taking Antigua's spot. Rohrssen was the lead recruiter on Diallo while at Pitt and has a strong footprint in the NY area, that's really all it is, its not a Seton Hall situation where Calipari is hiring AAU and HS coaches who coached the recruits they are after.

Whats the deal with Djery Baptiste? This dude has an NBA center body right now. Look at the athleticism!! How isn't he rated higher?

I'd say Adrien also posted up and was featured a bit. He probably would have been featured more if that team wasn't balanced. He was undersized but has played a few years in the NBA as well.
I don't buy all this crap about UConn not being a big man's program. KO and JC both ran offenses that looked for high percentage shots. If a UConn big can show he's capable of finishing, he'll get plenty of looks. If a recruit can't see that, then too bad. Well find one that does.

This kid's composite rating is 159. #14 in the state of Texas. SMU and Boston College are after him.

I think this kid played for the New England Playaz AAU team. Didn't realize he had a UConn offer until now, he's a bit raw and not all the way there with his basketball coordination because he's only been playing 4 years. The kid is built like Dwight Howard is now, you give Ollie that kid's size and strength and he could mold a diamond, sign me up as being very intrigued.

I love JC as much as the next guy here, but seriously? He was the Brett Favre of college basketball for the last few years of his career. He was and is certainly loyal but "stable" isn't the first word that comes to mind.

True, and don't forget, he was offered other jobs, and kept everyone guessing. I remember South Carolina was one of them. And he has a summer home down there.

I hope KO pays more attention to this player. He looked much better than someone only playing for 4 years. High ceiling.

Isn't he affiliated with Mustapha Heron as well?

This reminds me of that top 100 big 5-6 years ago who was down to us and cincy when we despretly needed a big and he ended up signing with cincy when they were log jammed at the 4-5 and never saw a minute on the floor. We ended up winning a ship a couple years later. Idk where he is now. Anyone remember what his name was?

It happened also with Deon Thompson, Alex Stepheson, and Brandan Wright to UNC, with Tyler Hansbrough already there as a freshman. All 3 of them committed to UNC to play PF in the same year. And Ed Davis showed up a year later. UConn recruited all 4 of them, then "settled" for Thabeet.

I like the Stone/Newman combination based upon a very small sample. Good luck to Govan. Georgetown is a great place to go to school.

The infamous John Riek? Last I heard he was playing in some regional mid-western semipro league that plays games in high school gyms.
