Jeff Goodwin's Big East update

He's a troll, but he's not wrong. This is exactly why the preseason gauntlet that Dan Hurley scheduled this year is necessary.

plus on the other hand, st johns got a good win, but has had several close losses...agian...nova is playing alright, and seton hall is the WTF of the year with a Q1 win over NCSU, and nearly following it up with a win over USC.

Overall, the BE is creeping closer to the ACC in terms of overall quality...again....

.-.
Villanova kept the Big East respectable for a few years last decade and UConn will have to do the same this year unless St. John’s figures it out. Crazy that the league is upside down this year with Creighton and Marquette struggling and Seton Hall and Butler looking much better.

.-.
Some of these issues are solvable like Smart actually using the portal and McDermott rebuilding his new roster this year. St. John’s is too talented for them to not recover with Rick Pitino as the coach.

Hopefully this new Xavier is just a short-term slump that Dick Pitino can get over next year.
Butler and Villanova are TBD. Seton Hall and Sha look promising.

Schools like Georgetown and Providence should be reflecting on their coaches and where they both stand as programs. Outside of one year, neither have provided the league with much as of late and it only gets worse if the P4 continues to increase the resource disparity. The whole point of this conference is that it is supposed to remain very competitive in men’s basketball, no excuses for that edge to be taken away.

DePaul is a lost cause.

Cooley has been cursed with the injury bug these past few years.

Georgetown looked good last year until Sober went down.

They were on a roll this year and Vince is out for two months now. He was a pretty big part of their rotation and played better than Julius at times.

They have some talent coming in recruiting wise and should be getting better and better moving forward.

St John's will do enough in conference play to end up in the tournament and I imagine there will be room for a third BE school, even if we have no idea at the moment who that may be, but we are basically it as far as top level quality in the conference this year.

.-.
I also feel like Pitino will have his team playing better by the end of the year. He always does.
Playing better or better record because playing BE teams. The OOC is the true barometer of the league. Mid pack is picking it up but Johnie’s, Marq and creight have snit the bed

While I always want teams to think it’s the biggest game of the year when they play us- it kinda sucks that we are the only opportunity for them to get a Quad 1 win outside (possibly) St John’s in the BE.
Getting teams best game is great- but with the physical play in the BE I worry about injuries if the other team has nothing to lose.

Yes but it will be vs the mediocre big east teams setting them up for a first round loss

Goodwin certainly knows how to get this fan base riled up.

Just take a beat. There are still a lot of non-conference games left. Let's see how they turn out before declaring that the NEC is better than the Big East.

Is changing his last name to Goodwin a board inside joke that I missed?

According to KenPom, as of today, there are 7 opportunities for Q1 wins on the road. UConn and St. Johns would be Q1 opportunities at home as well.

KenPom is meaningless until mid-December. We do not know much about how much of our schedule is Q1 or Q2 or whatever until then.

UConn is a title contender

St John’s blew great opportunities. They’ll get better as the year goes on and make the tournament. But the BE needed them to succeed OOC and they failed

Creighton failed as well. Significantly underperforming. But I think they’ll also improve and make the tournament closer to the bubble

Shaka’s portal strategy (or lack of) finally bit him. Marquette isn’t looking very good. Not bullish on them making the tournament

How about Seton Hall and Butler! Some big power wins so far. If things break right for Seton Hall, a bid feels possible

Agree with Goodman, Nova’s record is good but they haven’t beaten anybody real

DePaul is better than expected but wouldn’t call them good. At least they picked up an ACC win

Georgetown was looking good but they’ve slipped out of relevance the last few days. They need to beat UNC next weekend. Otherwise not looking good

Don’t care about Xavier

Providence is terrible and their season is over already

If I had to predict today, I’d give the BE three bids. Two no brainers UConn and St John’s, and I’d bet on Creighton turning it around. But obviously there’s a lot of basketball left to be played. If Seton Hall makes a run they could make it in. Maybe Shaka gets his guys to turn it around too. But I’d bet 3

Tell me you have no idea what the NET is without telling me. About 8 of the BE teams will be Quad 1 on the road (top 75).

There's a guy that simulates the NET, and as of 2 days ago it was 4 BE teams and us in the top 75 (Butler, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova). Georgetown was 83 and Providence 86 but both have lost since then. 4 outside the top 100.
