Jeff Goodman in Storrs

I'd venture to say he dunks more than getting his shot blocked. He's gonna have 4-6 inches on most players guarding him.
They could throw him a 10’ high pass and he has to get fouled. Can not bring that ball down to waist level though.

He'll get alley ooops - he's got the length and we have enough ball feeders around him.

What happens in a tough BE battle when he gets the ball in the post? Is he getting stuffed? Any predictions?
No I don't think he'll get stuffed by smaller players. I honestly have no idea what your point is here. There's some valid concerns about Clingan but being too skinny to compete in the Big East is just a really bizarre angle to take

When I talk about not worrying too much about ball handling, this is what I mean. As often as possible the ball should be moving through the air. I believe that will be a focus on this more "positionless" roster. It's beautiful to see. We aren't far removed from having guys who pounded the ball into the ground and wasted 15-20 seconds a possession.

The coaches and walk ons passing the ball around in a defensive rotations drill makes you less concerned about our ball handling???

No, There’s no angle here. Just wondering how his massive height plays out and what we can expect to see against quality teams for him. I literally have no idea and wouldn’t be surprised either way. Tapes against HS shrimps don’t mean much do they? It’s not like we have had video of him against Sanogo in practice because that would at least give us a clue. Of course we’ll all know in the next 8-9 weeks the answer.

Yes, because I think our offense is going to play that way. Plenty of guards on this team, no ball handling concerns. Go watch Warriors clips or clips of the Celtics in the 2nd half of the season last year. Dan has been slowly building towards a roster that can do that.

The point is that he's not likely to "get stuffed" very often. It's conceivable that he'll be so easily moved by strong, experienced players that he doesn't get as many dunks and layups as we hope, but it doesn't seem likely that he'll be getting his shot blocked very much.

smh No point guard, a 7'2" 265lb center that's too skinny and will get pushed around by shrimps, a 36% 3pt shooter who can't shoot. Can we even compete? I'm concerned

Certainly more questions than answers. Concerning stuff. When everyone was complaining that Clingan was chubby and slow who would have thought that the real concern was that he was too skinny.

We're all fraught with concern here. Season's coming too fast! We may not be ready.

When you add in how unhinged Hurley is, you realize we should just cancel the season and be happy with being the NYT National Champs.

Jibsey with the keen observations and all the hard-hitting questions this morning.
There have been a range of opinions here so far having him play 5 minutes a game to 20 and strength probably determines that in the BE. The video posted here showed a skinny looking guy but maybe he's stronger than he appears. We'll soon know.

Lol. Have you not heard of skinny fat?

It's really a thing.

After the local media guys went after Hurley on twitter, I’m not surprised he doesn’t give them preferential treatment.
Went after him? I remember the little misquote from borges two years ago, but don’t recall those guys going after him….what r u referencing?

I'm not too worried about his strength. He's about the same weight per inch as Kalkbrenner. Probably a bit bigger than Nunge. I expect his main role is to play against some of those 7 foot guys. I doubt he sees the floor vs Villanova or some of the small ball teams, barring injury to Adama. My concern with him is defense and footspeed.

The question is NOT skinny or fat.

The question is strong or weak.

This skinny guy is strong and very, very good.

Two 17-18ppg scorers on the roster seems unlikely. Sanogo may do it... Expecting that kind of production from Hawkins seems like wishful thinking. 12ppg on effecient numbers would be an amazing season from him.

Gotta expect 8-10ppg from Andre. Newton should hit double digits. Alleyne and Diarra will be in the 5-10ppg game again (hopefully).

That's about 60ppg from 6 guys. Add in whatever Clingan, Johnson, Karaban, maybe Calcaterra can add, and I think we have a decent (but probably not great) offense.

No way Sanogo and Hawkins average 35, right?

Hard to see. But it's possible. I don't think Sanogo will have much trouble holding up his end of that, but Hawkins averaging 15-20 a game is a huge leap forward. Has the ability/tools to do so for sure, but that doesn't always translate immediately to that type of production. It would be a huge breakout year for him if he did. Bouk averaged 13 his frosh season and 19 in year two. It is a lofty expectation in my opinion for Hawkins to go from 6 his frosh to 18-19.

Agreed. If he's going to have so much responsibility, he's going to need to leave the sulking behind and just worry about the next play. That's the leap I want to see from him. Just play team ball.

When's the last time you've been to the eye doctor? Seriously, Clingan looks anything but skinny in that video posted in this thread. Looks like he's in shape.
