Jaylin Stewart in Portal

From my very quick search looks like he's doing alright and living in Chicagoland area.

He was also a quote machine for interviews.
Think that’s a different guy. Chicago Selvie was a Chicago “legend” for King HS in the 90s.

He says some really strange things at times.

It’s unbelievable people are trying to pass this as a one off. When Reibe transferred a couple weeks ago he suggested on his account that he was transferring because our fans “shit” on him and the other players. There’s of course no evidence at all that was the reason. He also criticized Hurley and the rotations several times during the season. Also his right hand man, UConn twitter “celeb” Little Red put out the word that Dan “dropped the ball” on Jaylin transferring. How exactly did he drop the ball? No one knows. It just sounds good I guess.

I wish Jaylin all the best and thank him for all he did. People who want to blame everyone else (including the coach who led the program to 3 title games in 4 seasons!) for why he’s leaving can bounce.

I never said BE teams were mid-majors, but in any given year there is a lot of overlap. Using ESPN’s power rankings, here’s the back end of the Big East this year:

BE: 54, 59, 65, 66, 70, 72, 95, 100

Here’s the top of the top four mid-major conferences:
A10: 33, 46, 62, 80
American: 50, 64, 82
Mountain West 29, 53, 56, 69, 74, 75, 87
WCC 9, 41, 39

I’d call that considerable overlap.

Going back a few years, a bit more overlap AND a few teams performing like mid-majors (power rankings going back a few years):

GTown. 70, 86, 194, 216, 177, 71
DePaul. Maybe worse.
SH. 54, 151, 53, 70
Butler. 66, 66, 75, 123, 145, 121

Though I was just joking around, I stand by my statement that there is considerable overlap.
Really it is a matter of how you define mid-major. If you define it by the conference you are in, teams like DePaul and Boston College are not mid-majors. On the other hand based on quality of play, they clearly are.

Really have a tough time with trying to like and support "Little Red".

On the one hand, tries WAYYYY hard to be the authoritative "UConn Super Fan". Loves to set the rules for how fans should behave and support the team. Most recent example being the JStew departure.

On the other hand, his saving grace is that he DOES do things that support the program and things in its orbit, like the Husky Ticket Project. This is not insignificant, and the amount raised was very impressive.

But when he does do these things IRL and on social media, it's always "look at meeeeee" publicity stunts with a goal of getting himself recognized (the "Trek to Storrs").

Maybe he just needs a better PR manager.

I'm going to defer to Hurley every time. If a kid walks I think it's because he gives them the window through honesty and transparency. I don't see a lot of ill will. Heck, the other day he posted a series of pics of Furphy, who announced he was transferring two weeks ago.

Performative charity rubs me the wrong damn way every time.

Is that why we don’t see Johnny time at final four get togethers?

Always wondered where the pride of Flint ended up…

I don't think that is our Selvie.

It's crazy but there was another Selvie in basketball prior to that...Johnny Selvie from King HS in Chicago. King was a monster school in like the early 90s. Won a national championship and they had a Johnny Selvie who literally played games with an ankle monitor because of some drug charges. (Not sure, but I don't think he made it to college because of academics and his fondness for getting arrested.)

I am guessing he is the Chicago Selvie. Glad to see that he turned it around.

What about my old girlfriend? Maybe there's still a chance?
You should give her a call.

Which of the Big East teams would you consider a mid-major? Name names.

No, we are not saying a similar thing, because Butler/Xavier/Creighton/Marquette/Georgetown/Providence/Seton Hall/Nova are not mid-majors. Just a patently ridiculous assertion to make.
Georgetown, Seton Hall, Butler and Xavier would currently be considered mid-major. I assume you agree DePaul is mid-major.

Notice who he was replying to...

The "SuperFan" who was chastising Hurley for "dropping the ball" on the JStew transfer situation...

I guess in his view, the staff committing 3 years of working with JStew to try and develop him into a unequivocal high-minutes starter at UConn doesn't qualify as "patience with development"

It was all in response to Reibe, not Stew.

That's not what happened. Those two have a cordial relationship. Also not sure why you're using airquotes to denigrate Little Red. Dude walked 40+ miles in the snow to a game.

So the teams that could be considered mid major in the Big East is Georgetown, DePaul, Seton Hall, and Butler. I probably would throw in Xavier as well. That appears to be a reasonable assessment.
Mid-major is a function of place, not a result. By that measurement, Maryland and Penn State would be mid-majors.
