Jaylin Stewart in Portal

I don’t think Watts closes the door on Stewart for Washington. This goes against the current meta of stacking size, but Stewart and Watts can play some combination of SF/PF together. Their playstyles are very different. Definitely would be undersized at spot though

Is Gonzaga interested or are we just trying to make that happen so he can be close to home?

If it doesn’t work out at a lower power team like UW, honestly might be a better idea to go down to the mid major level and ball out there. If the issue was minutes and touches, no point going to another big name program just to be in the same situation of 10-15 minutes off the bench. Go get 25+ minutes a game in a starting role and be great!

I’d think he’d best at a MM.

Pretty sure that’s the BY trying to will him there due to proximity and respect for that program. The only schools I’ve seen mentioned were Washington and GTown. Maybe I’m not looking in the right place, but I feel like portal’ers are much more secretive this year as opposed to previous years. I feel like every guy had a “_____ is hearing from” post about them.

.-.
I’ve seen a few people say this, and I’d like to better understand what you mean. He wasn’t a focal point and had to "get his" on his own. He was mostly used as a screener. He wasn't the focus of Hurley play calls and after running elaborate sets for Ball, Mullins, Karaban, and Reed, if nothing developed, he’d maybe end up with the ball late in the shot clock and be forced to create.
I'm not sure what gtcam meant, but it seemed to me that JS was often unsure of himself and didn't take a shot when he was open. Sort of like looking over his shoulder because he felt he had a short leash.

Yep, no Zags!

So what situation is going to be better than being back at UConn next year? Khamenia might have a heart attack if Jaylin came back, but geez, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
Perhaps going to a mid major, like others here have suggested. This way he will almost be guaranteed playing time and opportunity to shine against good competition, but not as good as the majors.

Wherever Jaylin ends up, I hope he crushes it. He should always be considered part of the UConn family and welcomed back anytime he returns in the future.

He'll be at a Mid Major. Not sure what Seattle's needs are at PF, but that would be a perfect place for him. Jaylin is highly unlikely to start at a HM one year out

Assuming Jaylin’s main intention is to get minutes and shots (that’s a big assumption from me, I don’t know the actual situation), he should drop down to a good mid major that can make him a feature part of both their offense and defense. That will open up the opportunities that I’m assuming he’s looking for

If it’s not all about shots and he just wants to be a big minute role player in the starting 5, a lower tier power school would be good

.-.
There are enough majors out there that could use him. Maybe not power houses but legit P5 teams. I think he’d be great at UVA. Some B10 schools. And there are so many CA schoolers. I think muck would love him. Wonder if Dan reached out.

Hypothetical question-Jamar and Jaylin figure out the grass isn't greener. The NIL vibes they're getting isn't what they thought they would be. Would you take them back based on how the roster is currently constructed?

Yes

Not sure it's as much about NIL as it is PT - he'll find more PT somewhere else. Kid needs 30 minutes, not 8. We have no room for him at the 3. Landrew is a much better player.

I wouldn't doubt the possibility that this may be planned coordination by both the Stewarts and Hurley. Alow Stu to asses fair market value and opportunity while keeping a clear line of communication via his father.

Agree PT is important for him. 5 in 5 rule could give him two years if passed. Maybe time to show some onions and level up to his natural talents and just do it.

He’s not coming back. He’s not coming back. He is not coming back.

Please, for the love of God, he is not coming back. You cannot will it into existence.
Threw it out as a hypothetical- Curious to see what savvy Yarders like you would say. Not keeping me up at night. Jamar doesn't sound happy right now.

What's going on with Jamar other than the Zags not showing interest? Ray out here policing Stew remarks.

Expect Stew to land on some mid major as their starting 4 between San Fran and Seattle. There are a ton of mid majors out West between the WAC and WCC.

Hope it works out for them. My question was-Would you take him back? Dan has said the door is open if it doesn't work out. Not dying on this hill. Its Friday night and just asking the question. As Ruff would say- Just for the conversation.

Honestly, you just happened to post at the same time I did - was not directed at you, specifically.

But he’s not coming back.

I tend to agree with you. Will be more chill once the PF situation is resolved. TBH-Didn't expect this much action on a hypothetical on a Friday night. Thought it might roll over into a Saturday AM discussion.

Will it? Because we’ve had our starting center for a while now and people are still talking about who they want Hurley to bring in as the starting center.

If you really mean "who they want Hurley to bring in the starting center"-For me- It's Hines-Case closed. We now have a solid backup 5. So its now about our backup 4. Open for discussion.

BTW- For my Yarder friends. This has been a HOF experience for me in the last half hour. I have never had 7 "quoted" responses in the same timeline ever. I'm speechless. I really don't aspire to be this controversial. So-I'm actually shocked at you guys. Good night.

My preference for a backup four is a Jonny Selvie type where half the concern is keeping him out of prison and the other half is keeping him from punching someone on the court.

I’m fine with recruiting out of a prison for this spot.
