Jaylin Stewart in Portal

Really hope Stewart ends up at Gonzaga. He's exactly the kind of veteran, athletic player they need heading into the Pac 12 and there's not a lot of upper class leadership coming back to Spokane. Plus, there should be a lot of minutes available due to eligibility expirations and portal moves.

Looks like they're short a F, and a C.

13. Gonzaga

I appreciate that Hurley wouldn’t lie to him. He wasn’t going to start. I’m sad to lose a loyal Husky who wanted to stay, but I’m proud of the program for doing right by him. I know he visited Georgetown but he could probably find time at Washington if he wanted to go home. Kind of prefer if he doesn’t have to play us.
I hope not Georgetown.

With the examples of Akok and Abraham, that gives me a vibe akin to UConn players getting drafted by Charlotte.

And Cooley deserves at least one more year in the "I'm rich as shit" karma he created for himself.

My wish list for JS as if he cared. BC. Zags. STL. And this may be surprising but I think a few higher level teams would benefit from him and even have him start. Houston. MSU. And zona.

Put perfectly. It's already getting old for me. This Stewart thing hurts and I had a weird, kinda distant feeling watching the tourney this year. Even though we did great, the other games just felt off to me. As if I were watching a sound stage putting on a rendition of "March Madness 26"

Connection and getting to know players is why I truly love my favorite teams. Hurley wants to maintain this. Results with no depth is like driving to the finish line of a marathon.

Anyone can go to a restaurant and get a good bowl of soup but it's different when your mom makes it for you.
Yeah, I felt disconnected a bit during the tournament his year too for some reason. I had season tickets, went to most games and some of the OOC ones, and didn't miss any on TV, I was fully invested in our team. It just felt like some of the "magic" was gone from the tournament this year, even when we we playing (except the Duke game of course).

Can Hurley do Shaheen a solid and help get Stew to Seton Hall. I much prefer to see Stew there then Georgetown and yes I do fear Stew would torch us but prefer to see it with Seton Hall then Georgetown.

Dan Hurley is the coach at UConn.

The number of "solids" he should be doing for Seton Hall is zero.

Not really directed at this poster - I get his point about GTown - but there's an odd opinion here that Dan Hurley should treat Holloway and SHU as his ward by not recruiting his portal players or sending him players.

He could have stayed, been loyal, out work Khamenia or whoever else gets in his way (like what Ross did last season) instead he bounced. Thanks for the three years and if we ever face his new team I hope our guys destroy him.
You only get one shot at this..it a freaking tough decision. Cant blame the kid for wanting more mins/starting role somewhere else. Idk why it’s hard for people to understand. The kid was a great husky. Hope he gets the 30+ min a game he’s looking for and has a great season!

Stewart left UConn because it's his last college season and he wants to play significant minutes. And, he wants to put up some stats to help him play professionally after college. He is a good 3 point shooter and with more consistent minutes, I think he would post pretty good stats.

I will be rooting for him wherever he goes.

Sam Funches. How did we miss out on him?

Seems like a great kid and incredible team guy. His individual game did nit have a great chance to blossom for various reasons. The flashes and glimpses when they appeared were awesome. Wherever he ends up I will be pulling hard for him.

Shrug.

Once a player is in the portal, I can see friendly coaches talking about him. I'm pretty sure Hurley and Holloway discussed Hines. Hurley isn't Stewart's agent, but I do feel that if he could facilitate Stewart moving to the right spot, he would.

St Mary's is losing their PF - there are some comparisons in what they run.

Long gone and the chances of it coming back are NIL. Now it seems if you get paid, the minutes are yours to lose.
That doesn't fit in Hurley's win at all cost personna.

Post/handl.
I can definitely see why you’d picture Stewie at Gonzaga that’s not a bad landing spot at all for him. But personally, I’d love to see him end up somewhere with a little more of a spotlight if that kind of opportunity is there. Just feels like a bigger stage could really help him get the exposure his game deserves for his future.
Something like UCLA or Michigan State, programs where he’d be pushed every day and really challenged to grow. At the end of it all though, I would like to see him in the right situation where he can play, keep developing, and show what he’s got. He needs to maximize his senior year. He's not after the $ because it will be there regardless, he will go to what he deems a good fit. From seeing posts from his dad they will make the right choice.

Good luck Stew! Sad to see you go but I see the dilemma being part of the Basketball Capital of the World with nothing promised.

I agree with those hoping he ends up at Gonzaga. Not just because they're a good team with a good coach. I also think it is a good place for him to demonstrate his offensive ability. I know he didn't always show it here but when given enough shot attempts I still think he is a very good scorer.

You need to adjust to the new reality because its the only way to compete for championships. Otherwise. I suggest you become a Marquette fan

Tuff to lose Stew he was UConn thru & thru but college hoops has become very business oriented nowadays

Anybody else get a 24hr ban bc you mentioned stew was entering the portal … yeah thanks for the apology BY smh

Well maybe dropping a level he can be a start. He has the skills and just needs the confidence of being the guy on a team.
He can start for any other Big East team. He would have had trouble cracking 10 min/game for a title focused UConn team, especially given Ross' improvement while he was injured and high profile recruits/transfers coming in and Mullins returning.
