Jayden Ross

Season started. My Ross points have been made.

At this point he’s going to go as far as his confidence takes him. Not much left to talk about.

I agree. He’s obviously not close to as explosive, aggressive or physical as Andre was but Ross is a good defender, has length, a decent handle for his size & is a decent shooter (in that sense. better than Andre). It would be great to see him try to adopt some of the other things Andre did for us - mainly, push the ball more in transition and keep his head up for cutters and guys that are up court. Andre was an elite passer with an attack mentality that I think spread to the entire team in ‘23.

Hey @Scrappy3 great to hear from you. For those of you that have forgotten Scrappy was the poster who always predicted we would go unbeaten every season. His initial post is in line with who he is - our version of RutgersAl.

Ross is an overall better scorer than Andre (which isn’t hard to do), not just shooter.

Hes not the athlete nor does he have the vision. But if Andre was an A in these categories, I’d think Ross would be a B if he had the confidence to go with it. He’s shown flashes of being able to set his teammates up and playmake. But it’s at the moments he’s feeling confident and aggressive.

Andre was a fearless player, elite athlete, and had one of the best motors I ever saw personally. It’s why it was always frustrating he never had any consistent way he was comfortable scoring. Because he had the makings to be special overall if he could’ve figured out the small things scoring wise.

At minimum, he’s the Thompson twins if he could’ve at least developed the ability to finish at the rim.

Yet his attacking nature without that skill was still prominent and, like you said, energized the whole team.

Ross is a defensive closer. That is all. He will hit a bucket every once in a while. He will play because he can play outstanding D.

Ross is beginning to develop into a valuable rotation player.. Hustle plays/D/loose balls/decent passer/secondary ball handler to break the press.. Ways to go to have the impact in games that Andre did but has fast twitch athleticism. His confidence is growing. Energy off the bench.

If he was a completely different player at minimum he's the Thompson twins.

FTFY

There’s not much different about their games except they are elite finishers around the rim. They both can’t shoot worth a lick but play excellent defense and are elite athletes.

Andre is actually the better passer probably.

Umm you did see the last game when we had them by 3 and they full court pressed us, he lost it out of bounds.
I did. Not sure pass should have been thrown to him in that situation. He was a PG in HS before he had his growth spurt. There have been multiple times this year where he has provided secondary ball handling to help our PGs- In a few instances-initiated our offense. Our execution -when pressed- is not as crisp as you would expect from a Top 5 team. I'm sure it's been a point of emphasis in practice as well as part of the scout by our opponents. Gotta clean it up.

Agreed. He is a good ball handler with light pressure, but he's not a good decision maker under pressure. We also had a bad press break when Reed and Reibe were sitting (which got one of them inserted ASAP after that).

There's something completely different about their games. They can score the basketball, Andre can't. They're just way better basketball players. Amen Thompson is first team all defense and averages 18 ppg. Andre barely sees the court and is most likely out of the league sooner than later.

Florida "suckered" Karaban into throwing ball to Ross. Immediately double-teamed Ross against the out of bounds line (a third defender) in front of the Florida bench. Not an optimal position for Ross and smart D by Florida.

70% of his shots come from 0-10” away.

They’re scoring comes from using their athleticism to finish around the rim.

Yes, something Andre is totally incapable of doing. They're much better players than Andre is.

While Scrappy can post some weird stuff sometimes, I believe all he was saying is that the coaches should use Ross to guard the opposing team's best perimeter player like Hurley did with Jackson. And with Castle too. I don't think he was comparing the two players beyond that.
