If someone can change Hurley then they could make a fortune writing a book. Over time it will happen but it will be at his pace, until then he is our Coach with all his faults and characteristics.

Be funny the day when Dan is on the bench chillin, but I'm not ready for that Hurley just yet. The current version is the Hurley I love.

To me its ok to not like the antics and like the Coach, every parent/spouse knows the feeling.

Andrea is our only hope. Love the man, but don't want to see him go down in flames as the result of one impulsive moment that can't be overlooked. If that happens, the program will be the loser, not Dan Hurley. At least not in the long run.

Hurley is Hurley. He’s obsessed with perfection, he’s very openly emotional about it, and he’s not changing

It’s why we hired him, it’s why he immediately reversed the program’s free fall, and it’s why he won two championships here

Sometimes it displays positively, sometimes it displays negatively. If you’re 100% bought in to Hurley, you just take the good with the bad

That doesn’t mean he can’t learn to engage less immediately after a game. I agree he is who he is and I love that about him, but I’d bet if he was honest, he would admit he embarrassed himself a few times. That can and should change. He is as authentic as it gets and it helped him achieve the pinnacle of his sport. But now that he is there, he has a responsibility and a maturity that is needed. Block out the crowd noise. Block out the media. It’s only going to get louder for
Him.

Yeah. Bilas a tool and a had to bring the weasel Coach up. I’m over it. Soft fans, pathetic media hacks, and envious fanbases want to get their shots in because they couldn’t for two years
No, Bilas is far from a hack. And Bilas has been more than fair to UConn over the years. It’s one thing to say Hurley is who he is and you have to take the bad with the good. I said that after his post game comments. But it’s another to fail to recognize that the negative behavior is in fact negative, and in many walks of life — almost anything other than coaching adults in sports for big money — is not and should not be acceptable.

Bilas is a partner at a major North Carolina business law firm. Expecting him not to recognize that the behavior is not in anyone’s interest is unrealistic.

One thing Danny does more than other fiery coaches do/did is he exposes his self weaknesses in interviews to the public. He's open and honest. If anyone knows self reflection, it's Danny Hurley. IMO.
He will learn to do as Bilas said, to correct some things and keep some things over time.
But for now I'm glad he's at UConn and not at another program.

Bingo!

We don’t have just Andrea.

We have these people called Assistant Coaches that need to earn their $$$.

George Blaney knew that part of his role was to keep JC from losing it.

He very gently reeled JC when he needed it.

If we don’t have a sr. assistant coach that’s been a HC before maybe it’s time to bring one on on staff.

I don't get the big deal about his behavior after the game. It was immediately after a tough loss. It wasn't during an interview - I don't know that he knew it was being recorded. And I thought he was relatively calm during the actual game. So the guy gets upset after a very difficult loss in the NCAA tournament and makes comments on his way to the locker room about officiating? Big deal. He treats his players wonderfully, he plays by the rules, he's great in the community -- by every other definition, he's a stand-up guy. Bilas and the media really need to get over this.

He’s made a living acting like the moral police but picks and chooses who gets the ruler to hand and who doesn’t.

Also, what is this negative behavior? Is this negative behavior different than Coach K, Self, Izzo, Cal, Beard?

It’s not a big deal but the media hacks know they’ll get the clicks. That’s why every thumbnail is a less than flattering photo of Dan, or that the camera is always on him.

They also do not care about the sport at all. It is by far the worse coverage of any of the major sports.

Well stated.
Really not seeing anything to argue about here. Jay is exactly right. Be the fiery guy who uses sage and superstitions and chest bumps his players. Everybody loves that guy. Just stop saying really stupid things that come across as arrogant and sour grapes/poor loser. It's a lack of sportsmanship. It's disrespectful to the other players and coaches to blame the officials every time UConn loses a close game. Put the blame on yourself if you must, or better yet, praise you opponent. He really needs some humility and maturity.

I love that UConn is the lead story in an otherwise god awful NCAA Tourney.

You can’t get us off the front pages! Love it, keep going Dan!

I am not commenting negatively on the tourney just because we are out of it. I was literally bored to tears Sat watching predictable game and predictable game unfold.

I guess there’s not way to control this but this is one of least enjoyable tourney’s in recent memory.

Does he not do all of those things in your last sentence? No disagreement that he's a sore loser. But where is this level of criticism for coaches who are doing actual terrible things? Why are we spending time crying about Hurley saying "immature" things all while praising coaches who beat their girl friends and provide recruits with coacaine? The same networks hanging Hurley this week are simultaneously writing puff pieces on Chris Beard and Rick Pitino. It's hypocritical and it reeks of agenda driven jealousy. To put it simply. people don't like succesful people who aren't quiet about there success because it makes them feel insecure. Nothing Dan Hurley has done or said is actually hurting anyone. To the contrary he's changed hundreds of lives for the better. The media could've simply decided to focus on the out pouring of love he showed for his players after the game. His advocation for mental health. The way he actually treats people when you get a chance to meet him. Instead they chose to engage in fake outrage and I wish our fans whom this guy has provided so much joy for would stop engaging in it. He has done everything to earn our respect and loyalty. He loves these fans, this university and his players. We should be the ones on the frontline promoting that truth. It's weird and unfortunate that actual fans of this program are drinking the kool aid.

That's my rant. And hopefully if I can practice enough restraint I'll never speak on it again. Lol

Here's the reason why all of this is so gross.

These media outlets are doing this for clicks. Hurley hate drives traffic. End of story.

They're doing it under the guise of hard hitting journalism and commentary. But if that were the case, they would actually have ridden Chris Beard out of Ole Miss, or confronted any of the other coaches still in the tournament that have had legal troubles.

Amen.

All this s*** gets so blown out of proportion, its ridiculous. He's a passionate guy that's not hurting anyone with his antics (accept maybe his own mental health...)

If there's no random phone recording in the tunnel this isn't even a story. Imagine how much of his "controversial" comments aren't recorded...
