Yeah okay. He wouldn't be saying anything if Hurley was coaching Duke coming off back to back. Give me a break. I cant wait for this tournament to be over. We get it. He says stupid and prob should shut his month sometimes. Hopefully he”ll learn. At the end of the day. He treats the players great, is a hell of a coach, and wins! Point blank. Keep hitting us when we’re down talking heads of Espn. They should be focusing more on the teams that are still playing. Move the on.

We don’t have just Andrea.

We have these people called Assistant Coaches that need to earn their $$$.

George Blaney knew that part of his role was to keep JC from losing it.

He very gently reeled JC when he needed it.

If we don’t have a sr. assistant coach that’s been a HC before maybe it’s time to bring one on on staff.
We do. That ought to be Tom Moore’s role.

You’ve lost it sorry. Cocaine, Chris Beard, Pitino? They’re not the same Dans a great guy a family guy he’s not even comparable to those guys in that regard. He needs to just stop some things that make this a thing it’s that simple nothing else. Win with class like he’s run the program overall. It wasn’t a good thing and anyone who thinks otherwise is whacked as well sorry. The media guys an idiot yes he is but he’s a media guy people should know when they’re under the magnifier.

I’m done I like my coach a lot no matter but I’d like him to change a couple things. Heck you heard Jay refs are applauding him!! How are Dans kids ever going to get calls unless he changes?

Done
@mauconnfan we're never going to stop lol. You always argue in good faith though.

Some of the Hurley stuff is undeniably cringeworthy. But I look at it as two sides to the coin. He's a fiery obsessive lunatic and that makes him a great coach and also leads to stuff like this sometimes.
It's so self-defeating though. Nobody (practically) is talking about how his team made the 1 seed look ordinary as a big underdog. He doesn't need to do this to be great. Doesn't mean he's not my guy but he mentioned addressing this stuff last year so you know it's on his mind. Folks love a meltdown from people they don't like who are on top and they got one. Too bad.

He does do it eventually. For example, he apologized about the "best coach in the sport" outburst. It was embarrassing and arrogant and he recognized that. I'm sure he wishes his Baylor comment wasn't caught on tape and now some UConn PR moron is in trouble and the whole school is embarrassed by that. He's old enough now to simply restrain himself. Don't say anything unless you've had time to reflect and compose your thoughts. When he does that he's fine. You may say that's too much to ask, but the other coaches do it, every person in professional life has to do it. It's expected of any mature adult.
You're missing the point. Dan isn't a perfect human being. We know that. Many of us would do no better in his position with the spot light he has on him. With that being said it hypocritical and down right disgusting to spend the amount of bandwidth the media spends talking about Dan's body language and mean words instead of coaches who are actually doing heinous things. In the grand scheme of things none of Dan's quirky immature behavior hurts anyone and it clearly doesn't affect him or his players success. So why do we actually care? Spend this time litigating coaches and characters in the sport who are actually hurting people. I don't care if Hurley was mad about the refs after a loss and voiced it. No on should. He's 50+ and at the top of his profession. He isn't changing in a significant way. Especially not in moments of high emotion and immense pressure. We have actual cancers in the sport. Attack them.

I will have doubled the number of posters I have on ignore by the time this thread gets locked

What surprises me is that people are not taking the context of this into play. If Hurley said this to a reporter or in the post game press conference, I would be upset with him. It's a bad look.

In reality, he said this walking back to his locker room. He didn't realize he was being recorded. Should he have? That's debatable. The person who recorded it was clearly looking for something, and wasn't supposed to be there.

Imagine if you told someone something in private, and that was recorded by a 3rd party and then used against you. Would you be ok with someone telling you, well shame on you, you should always assume you are being watched or recorded?

Now, if the UConn media guy said what he did...he should probably be suspended or potentially lose his job.

Wow, that's open-minded. How do you broaden your thought processes if you never listen to people who have different opinions of your own? I'm an OG who can always learn some things.

There’s another !

I know this world of everything being recorded is new. So that requires adjustment. So here's a hypothetical.
Holiday party with your closest friends in the world. You drink too much say some things you might regret, including about a person who isn't present. OK, stuff happens. Not your best day. Now, make it a work holiday party. Same?

He's at work. He's representing the University even walking down the tunnel. Even when yelling at a ref before halftime. Too many of the posters seem to think it's a choice of this Dan or no Dan. That's ridiculous. We all want Dan Hurley to be the coach, warts and all. But I also would like to think that he can be a better version of himself. In private reflective moments, I bet he wants that too. I think he's a good person, family man and should not be compared to some of these guys who aren't.

Andrea is our only hope. Love the man, but don't want to see him go down in flames as the result of one impulsive moment that can't be overlooked. If that happens, the program will be the loser, not Dan Hurley. At least not in the long run.
If that happens he’ll end up in the SEC or at St John’s.

Yes. This should be one of their jobs. Probably not Luke. Probably Kimana. I get the feeling Moore doesn’t have the juice. A Blaney would be perfect.

Bilas sucks so much. He's a phony moralizer and he's been on a crusade to destroy college sports.
LOL
When Bilas was saying nice things about Ollie everyone thought he was great. Now he criticized Hurley, and rightly, and he is pond scum. Well Consistency is the hobgoblin if small minds I guess. LOL

We live in a post-context world. Nobody cares about context it's a person one already dislikes, it's just more fodder, more grist for the mill.

I love that UConn is the lead story in an otherwise god awful NCAA Tourney.

You can’t get us off the front pages! Love it, keep going Dan!

I am not commenting negatively on the tourney just because we are out of it. I was literally bored to tears Sat watching predictable game and predictable game unfold.

I guess there’s not way to control this but this is one of least enjoyable tourney’s in recent memory.
This tourney has been watching paint dry so far. There have been a handful of good games through 52 games.

Bilas is a righteous Dukie, and he's a lawyer. He's a dry mouthpiece.

Sports = entertainment. Hurley is entertaining as hell, and just competitively emotional. He's a great person. Sure he needs to tone it down and clean it up a bit, he probably will. If it was left to guys like Bilas, college sports would be like watching Congress in action.

Why does he need to change? His players love him as much/more than I've seen players love any coach in sports. The school and state loves him and he's the biggest thing in the sport. He's supposed to change because some hall monitor type annoying talking heads who have no stake in anything want to cultural gatekeep for clicks?

Why do we have to keep hearing about posters kids? Nobody cares about your kids or what you do with them.
You didn’t hear about my kids. Jay Bilas answering a direct question makes him a hall monitor? Was Jay wrong? Should grown professional men act that way? Do you act like that when you lose? Can someone you admire and respect have flaws? Does his behavior help or hurt him and this program? I’m pretty sure he knows it’s not helpful and if he could he would change it but maybe he can’t. Frankly I don’t give a s@it if he doesn’t change, it doesn’t make the point any less valid. I’m glad I’m never going to meet your kids.

Dudes got a 50M contract. I think his approach to life is just fine. I think most people wish they were more like Hurley.

Don't change Dan. You've earned the right to be your authentic self. Just don't abuse people or punch down and let the critics piss off.

Would definitely prefer Hurley didn't whine so much. But its hilarious to equate the average office with high level athletics. The rules are not the same. His behavior is not that different than many others, maybe a bit more amplified, but Hurley just gets clicks.
