All this s*** gets so blown out of proportion, its ridiculous. He's a passionate guy that's not hurting anyone with his antics (accept maybe his own mental health...)

If there's no random phone recording in the tunnel this isn't even a story. Imagine how much of his "controversial" comments aren't recorded...
He should be more like Calhoun. You know who was always mature, humble, and never said anything out of pocket.

Does he not do all of those things in your last sentence? No disagreement that he's a sore loser. But where is this level of criticism for coaches who are doing actual terrible things? Why are we spending time crying about Hurley saying "immature" things all while praising coaches who beat their girl friends and provide recruits with coacaine? The same networks hanging Hurley this week are simultaneously writing puff pieces on Chris Beard and Rick Pitino. It's hypocritical and it reeks of agenda driven jealousy. To put it simply. people don't like succesful people who aren't quiet about there success because it makes them feel insecure. Nothing Dan Hurley has done or said is actually hurting anyone. To the contrary he's changed hundreds of lives for the better. The media could've simply decided to focus on the out pouring of love he showed for his players after the game. His advocation for mental health. The way he actually treats people when you get a chance to meet him. Instead they chose to engage in fake outrage and I wish our fans whom this guy has provided so much joy for would stop engaging in it. He has done everything to earn our respect and loyalty. He loves these fans, this university and his players. We should be the ones on the frontline promoting that truth. It's weird and unfortunate that actual fans of this program are drinking the kool aid.

That's my rant. And hopefully if I can practice enough restraint I'll never speak on it again. Lol

You’ve lost it sorry. Cocaine, Chris Beard, Pitino? They’re not the same Dans a great guy a family guy he’s not even comparable to those guys in that regard. He needs to just stop some things that make this a thing it’s that simple nothing else. Win with class like he’s run the program overall. It wasn’t a good thing and anyone who thinks otherwise is whacked as well sorry. The media guys an idiot yes he is but he’s a media guy people should know when they’re under the magnifier.

I’m done I like my coach a lot no matter but I’d like him to change a couple things. Heck you heard Jay refs are applauding him!! How are Dans kids ever going to get calls unless he changes?

Done

Hurley is already moved onto next season in his mind. The dude is obsessed, much like another coach who retired from UCONN a few years back. It would be better if Dan wasn't such a spaz, but changing that is very much a low priority item.

I agree that it's laughable that the Todd Golden situation is basically being kept secret by the media, while The Dan Hurley story is everywhere. I hadn't even heard about the Golden thing until I read it here and then I had to search online to read about it. I can't even turn on my computer without being bombarded with articles about the latest Hurley thing.

Golden exhibited sick deviant behavior while Danny said something that people find objectionable.

It's not a non-story. If you act like a churl after a loss, you're gonna get roasted for it. And trying to suppress the video is a horrible look for the school. I'm just hoping this is forgotten soon and Dan takes steps to prevent reoccurrence.

Very few commentators know the Hurley family like Bilas. Just think he'd like to see Dan make some adjustments to some behaviors that hurt his image so that it squares up with his coaching brilliance. Seems to me like Dan has admitted he needs to work on some "stuff" this off-season and re-set for another run. He knows that Bilas isn't piling on.-Simply constructive criticism from someone who knows he is capable of leveling up that part of his brand.

He does do it eventually. For example, he apologized about the "best coach in the sport" outburst. It was embarrassing and arrogant and he recognized that. I'm sure he wishes his Baylor comment wasn't caught on tape and now some UConn PR moron is in trouble and the whole school is embarrassed by that. He's old enough now to simply restrain himself. Don't say anything unless you've had time to reflect and compose your thoughts. When he does that he's fine. You may say that's too much to ask, but the other coaches do it, every person in professional life has to do it. It's expected of any mature adult.

Bilas sucks so much. He's a phony moralizer and he's been on a crusade to destroy college sports.

Gonna be honest. Nobody here knows Dan personally. As much as some perceive the behavior as detrimental to the public image of our program, deep inside we should all be happy that someone is obsessed with the success of our program. I'd rather have this than someone who does coaching for the cheque and then go to another opportunity that they see better elsewhere.

We are at the point of picking your poison, a coach who can lose it on the sidelines with cameras pointing at him at all times or some poindexter that wouldn't get us near the success we've had under Dan Hurley. Other schools hate that we have him but if they had him they would overlook the antics he provides. That's what we have to do as well.

What would you like them to say?
Well nothing would be a good start... If they wanted to say nothing about Chris Beard that would be ok. If they want to say hes a great coach, I can live with that. But writing a puff piece about how he overcame the adversity of beating his wife and not getting in trouble then I would say that is ridiculous. And before anyone says that his partner recanted her statement I will say that the police very clearly documented that she was beaten and choked.

What do you have against poindexters?

This is also the age where everyone has a phone and can capture any moment at any time. I think some grace can be given to coaches and players who say or do something in the heat of the moment (obviously with some exceptions where certain conduct is never acceptable). I would rather have a coach who actually gives a crap and shows it. I agree sometimes maybe Dan has been a little out of pocket. I don’t doubt he’s becoming more aware of when he needs to exercise some restraint.

(That said, I am glad that cell phones and social media weren’t what they are now back when Geno was less mellow …)

Anyone is capable of change. I like Hurley. I'm not a coach or player so I can't relate, but it may benefit the team if he's able to time it down a bit.

If he never changes, I'm still good with him as our coach. He's the best there is in college basketball.

Where would we be without him? I would hate to have to consider that. We are blessed with our kooky coach

Book coming out and he's getting all kinds of publicity, may work to his advantage.
I love the guy and his passion but he needs to hide his anger/frustration a tad bit better.

Some of the Hurley stuff is undeniably cringeworthy. But I look at it as two sides to the coin. He's a fiery obsessive lunatic and that makes him a great coach and also leads to stuff like this sometimes.

It's also probably worth noting that he's been the story in college basketball for the last two years so he's got a magnifying glass on him at all times. That should recede now for a while.

Bilas is just another talking head these days.

Why are people getting thin skinned about this? I love Hurley but he needs to pick his spots better. I don’t think that’s controversial. Bilas is right and it’s also true this is not that big a deal. Posters are defending him a little too hard on this one. If your kid acted like he’s been acting you would be embarrassed and chewing his ass in the car on the way home. Like my kids I still love the guy but just stop already. You are hurting yourself.

We don’t have just Andrea.

We have these people called Assistant Coaches that need to earn their $$$.

George Blaney knew that part of his role was to keep JC from losing it.

He very gently reeled JC when he needed it.

If we don’t have a sr. assistant coach that’s been a HC before maybe it’s time to bring one on on staff.
Tom Moore?

I mean, we can debate all day & night about Hurley and the incident, his character, the rest of the world out to get him, coaches who have done much worse things, etc... but it's 2 days later and this is still festering on social media, including the story about Bobby Mullen threatening the reporter.

At some point shouldn't Hurley or even Benedict address this? Whether you think it's much ado about nothing or not, it's a horrible look for UConn.

This really pisses me off - Florida was allowed to basically say "yeah we looked into it, nothing to see here" and the media just went along with that? The original reporting from their student newspaper was really damning, dude is a grade A creep

Why does he need to change? His players love him as much/more than I've seen players love any coach in sports. The school and state loves him and he's the biggest thing in the sport. He's supposed to change because some hall monitor type annoying talking heads who have no stake in anything want to cultural gatekeep for clicks?

Why do we have to keep hearing about posters kids? Nobody cares about your kids or what you do with them.
