Didn’t see a thread yet. Today is a great slate after a few weeks with not much going.

Florida/Kentucky, Arkansas/Tenn, Baylor/Iowa State, Duke/SMU, Oklahoma/Alabama, Texas/Texas A&M

Rooting for Kentucky (think Florida is overrated), Arkansas (I think Cal is an entertaining villain, and I love an upset), Baylor (for us), SMU (duh), Oklahoma (don’t respect Oates after Brandon Miller), and Texas (for us)

I think Florida is going to start struggling against real competition. 213 SOS. Not sure how good Kentucky is either, or if they’re benefitting from the SEC hype bump

that guy is a dead eye shooter. He can't be given any space whatsoever when he has the ball behind the arc.

He needs no space to get it off - being 6 7 helps, his release is high and quick. Would have loved to be in the room when the staff was deciding between him and Mahaney. I get the why, but would have loved to have heard them talk through the pros/cons.

This is high end basketball and not even amongst the two best teams in the SEC.

IIRC we stopped recruiting Brea when we got McNeeley. I don’t think it was an either / or with Mahaney - believe we backed off Brea after the McNeeley commit. Based on Hurley’s sub patterns so far he wouldn’t have gone into the year with Nowell as the backup PG

It does make sense - but man it’s hard watching him go off like this against the 6 team in country. Dude is a weapon.

If you don't like Oats over the Brandon Miller situation then you didn't read any of the investigative reporting on that whole case outside of the early ESPN headlines that were irresponsible

We were recruiting both Mahaney and Brea after the McNeeley commitment, though it definitely did impact the likelihood of taking both. It's easy to say we should have taken Brea over Mahaney (we probably should have), but that also ignores the other half of that decision was also betting on McNeeley and Solo Ball which was unquestionably the right choice

Who would have been the second ball handler?

Brea would have been fine coming off the bench in the Ross role. He did that last year with Dayton doing same with UK this year. At 6 7, provides a lot of benefits in terms of defensive length and ease of getting a 3 off. If anything he was betting on Ross/Stew. He’s playing about 22 minutes per game and would have gotten that easy in a backup role between Ball and McNeeley. Not sure that one has paid off, yet.

Issue would have been the backup PG position, which Mahaney hasn’t really shown a lot of success with.

I didn’t read the investigative reporting - what did it say? I mostly dislike him over his comments immediately after where he downplayed the situation and appeared callous

“The head coach had told reporters Miller was ‘not in any trouble.’ ‘We knew about that,’ Oats said. ‘Can't control everything anybody does outside of practice.’”

Not hard to just say no comment, we will comply with the investigation. That whole situation reeked of corruption and privilege for a top athlete, anyway

George Washington destroying Dayton at halftime. Not a great scoreline for our NET.

I feel like I'm already pushing the boundaries of what we can and can't talk about, it was stated a little more explicitly on Storrs Central if you're a subscriber there. We were always going to need to bring in another ball handler as a backup PG even if they took Brea and not Mahaney. And that's where you start to see the minutes crunch and some guys being unhappy
