Wow, there truly is a Duke prototype. There is now a whole generation of little spoiled white kids who wanted to be just like JJ Reddick and Greg Paulus when they grow up. See 2015 commit Luke Kennard. You show me a picture of this kid without any other info and I would have called him a Duke PG. Can see the Dickie V slobber and floor slapping already.

I would guess he is listed as a 2guard because kaleb joseph held pg duties @ cushing. he has been no question a pg on the adidas circuit and has been destroying .

I honestly believe he is a 2 guard. At Cushing and with Mass Rivals he played the 2 alongside Joseph. With Joseph gone JA has taken over alot of the ball handling duties but it was because he is so dangerous off the ball that brought up Makai Ashton-Langford and played him on both the u16 and u17 level at multiple tournaments. He slides off the ball the second Ashton-Langford comes in.

I think that ever since Russell Westbrook there is this obsession with turning every off guard that can handle/pass into a PG. An obsession with big PGs.

Let him do what his does best, attack. Just one man's opinion.

I just can't see Purvis staying for 2 years for a couple of reasons. He's an McD AA who will essentially be a junior next year.

I'm as excited as anyone about Purvis, I wanted him out of high school. But if it is somehow the Purvis that I saw playing at NCSU then he'll be around. But I'm hoping we can chalk that player but to that coaching staff.

And depending on how featured this team is around Boat or Hamilton as opposed to him may play into the decision as well. I think alot is left to be seen.

Seems like KO likes having multiple guards on the floor who can handle the ball and create for themselves or their team mates. Jalen seems to be very good at that, especially in transition.

For laughs tonight we can read the cuse forum... theyve compiled a list of what they consider their amazing alumi in the league. Look at this joke of a list..no one is on winning teams, no one has been in the league 4 years(other than melo), half these players wont make their teams..

You're right, everything is left to be seen, and that's the fun of it. But I don't think there's any question that N.C. State Purvis was a function of the coaching staff. Gottfried is pitiful, he had one lucky run and then Rashad Anderson ate his soul and that's that.

I see next year's team as very different from this year's on offense. Instead of having a 1(a) and 1(b) combo guard setup directing the offense, I think it's going to be Boat leading the offense as more of a pure, attacking point with the ultimate goal of having Purvis and Hamilton destroy people from the wings. With Samuel available as a changeup to more of a 2 point approach like this year, and Cassell available to wreak havoc like his father.

Referencing what some others in the thread have said about Kemba and Bazz and the time to develop as a point - I don't see that for Purvis. I see him as more of a 2 like Ben Gordon, with a faster development like Ben had. We'll see, obviously we've only had a real look at Boat and TSam at this point. But my mouth is watering, I can't wait for November.

And then next year we add a kid from Bazz's territory who's been watching Bazz for a couple years and learning his moves? I mean, read that blurb tcf posted about Adams understanding tempo and screens - does this not sound like Bazz, Jr.?

I'm so very happy to be a UConn fan.

In KO we trust..

First we were Wing-U, than Shot Block-U, now we are Point Guard-U.

Evolution. Adapt or die. Something the Cuse will never do unless they can learn to play more man-to-man.
I love it...PG is the most important position on the floor in the college game. Remember when we were shot block U going like 6'9, 6'10, 6'11 inside in 06 we werent as good in tournament play. They werent as well conditioned and had to few people who could create off the dribble, hit a 3, dictate pace and control the ball. We always got beat by teams with good pgs/guards.

Now we're bringing in these dynamic point guards.......And have one to mold them.

And yet one healthy AJP probably gets us that 2006 ship.

Purvis is a lot more talented than Shabazz and Kemba so you can't compare him to those guys. If Shabazz was 6'4 with Purvis athleticism he probably could've been out by year 2. Make no mistake that Purvis will be one of if not the leading scorer this year with Boatright still playing as more of a setup pure PG who will take more shots this year. We haven't had a guard with this much size and athleticism in our program history besides Dyson and Ben Gordon. He's more athletic than Ben but has a better head on his shoulders than Dyson to actually be a scoring PG. More like Marcus Smart. You guys talk about the leap Kemba and Shabazz made their junior year, well Purvis will essentially be a junior who did nothing but work on his skills for 2 years. He will make a huge impact on this team. He has been learning how to play PG from one of the best teachers it seems like. You don't need to play in games to get better as a player. Simply working on your skills, maturing mentally, and understanding the game better through coaching and watchin will make you better. Purvis will be ready.

That might be a tad overzealous. I think Purvis can have a great year, but while he's bigger and stronger than shabazz and kemba I'm not sure how you can say based on what he's done so far that he's more talented than either of those guys.

It's somewhat ironic that the great 2006 team's achilles heal was its lack of pg play behind Marcus Williams. If that team had half of the pg depth that this team has it could have been the best UConn team ever. I digress though. As to Purvis, I think he is the real deal but expectations need to be reasonable. We probably haven't had as athletic a hybrid guard since Ben Gordon, with Dyson also in that conversation. I think Purvis will be much better this year than he was at NC St. even though he hasn't played in actual games for two years. First, he has learned hard work and good habits at UConn- which must be better than what he received at NC St. And then obviously, he is under a far far superior coach. (Abu - what were you thinking?). I live for the summers, but will be excited when November is approaching.

A month after the experts switched their picks from Kansas to Uconn he commits. 247 may have some value especially when the experts change their pics all of a sudden.
There does seem to be something to what you say. There almost seems to be some type of unwritten agreement among them, that when one hears a destination rumor of substance, he shares it with the others and suddenly you see the 247 flock swarm over the new target.

I swear 40 years ago that kind of ball handling was a carry. Chris Smith is to thank for helping the acceptance of that.

I'll never forget the game at Illinois. Billy Packer kept usng slow-mo to show how Smith carries the ball and talking aout how its legal in the NBA but it's a carry. He wouldn't let it go.

Rashad AND Ben Gordon ate his soul. Their first half performances were amazing. That was a great day in PHX

I can't tell you how pleasing that metaphor is to me. Just glorious.
