Is this Hurley after this game?

The coach of the team we played yesterday has very real allegations of stalking and sexual harassment. But if he’s cordial with referees and doesn’t say anything in the heat of the moment, I guess he’s a great person then huh?

Google non sequitur.

Two different topics here but a) Hurley didn't say anything that bad in a pretty private comment to a fellow coach and b) that's some bush league level reporting.

Was what Hurley said showing poor sportsmanship, yes. Was he saying it in a press conference, or to the refs directly. No. Was it really a big deal to say it right after a close, hard fought game, also no.

I fully expect media should be better than this.

Can you imagine if there were cameras everywhere at all times to catch everything Knight, Smith, K, Calhoun, Roy, etc. said from like the 1980s to early 2000s?

This is a non-story. People react in the moment. Hurley is usually quite graceful with opposing players and coaches. Sometimes he's not his best self with fans. In the hallway, in the immediate sting of a hard loss in which two seniors and potentially other championship players have played their last game? C'mon. Just pay attention to what he said like 5 minutes later when he had a chance to reflect.
This!

I have never seen the cameras on a coach as much as they are this year on Hurley. The idea that other coaches don’t say things and don’t go nuts on the sideline is the worst form of media bias. The media made this the story all year. No respect for UConn at any point. Every media piece on Hurley focuses on the viral moments and nothing about how great UConn is and what we just achieved. Our team was discussed like a complete failure while numerous 10 loss teams entered the tournament without that weight. Sure with success comes scrutiny but even in our most successful moments we get nothing from the media. The media was happy to take UConn off the pedestal so they could make room for friendlier narratives. Grit, resilience, passion. They have no room for our culture in the national spotlight.

Every postgame comment now from the other fanbases and from the media has decidedly cherry picked the absolute worst click bait narratives you could possible take. 12 minute postgame with him crying and showing emotions when saying goodbye to a team he loves? Nope, let’s talk about the 5 seconds where he says Karaban wasn’t fouled. 3 minute clip with him immediately postgame where he says that Florida is the better team? Nope, let’s talk about the comment he made in the tunnel as a hot mic situation.

Inflammatory media thriving off of disgust and lamentation. Hard to watch or listen to. These players don’t deserve it and us as fans don’t either.

Sorry love his passion, love the way he treats and gets along with his players, love he’s our coach. Can’t stand this crap and it’s not on the media because that’s their job. They have a chance way too often to grab a story with Dan Hurley and his inability to hold back. This is why we get no calls and for all of you supporting him on this don’t bitch about calls because he continues to worsen the load on his players with stuff like this. Refs have a chalk board too.

If we were all recorded at work or while driving it would look very bad.
More to the point is that you have to take people as they are. Without Dan Hurley being a winning obsessed maniac with a boulder sized chip on his shoulder, we don't win our last two national championships. Intensity often breeds greatness.

Genuine question to all of you who love this behavior and don’t see anything wrong with it: how do you teach your children to act and behave?

I have a strong suspicion that the people that are fine with this behavior are the same lunatics that scream at the refs themselves during their kids travel soccer game.
Coming from someone who's handle is flop....

Coaches and athletes throw and kick things all the time going to the locker room after a loss who cares.
When I was an assistant for a current college head coach in Connecticut 20 yrs ago, we ran a oob backscreen lob play at the buzzer to try and tie a game. It worked but our guy got mauled at the high point on the alley oop, and the refs swallowed the whistle, and let the game end without calling obvious foul. My coach, who is a classy guy, ran out of the gym after the refs who had also bolted after their abdication of duties.

He grabbed a ball off the rack and threw it at them jai lai style as we went into the hallway, and I learned some new words. And he was very cordial with 2 of the ref crew, both before and after. Pretty sure Josh Tiven, who is in the NBA now, was one of the refs lol. Not excusing it, but as a coach, You lose your mind in the immediate ending of a game if you were a competitor who feels wronged. As long as the irrational frustration is gone before official press meeting, so what. To hell with the hot mic in the moments after a loss walking off the court ending your season.

Same. His press conference was great until he complained about the non call on Alex. Just stop. You won two national championships in a row. If they were out to get you, that wouldn't have happened. Be gracious. Mention we missed some shots, mention coaching moves you could have been better at (not trying to feed Reed when it wasn't there). Don't be a poor loser. I love the overall emotion but the urge to blame someone else for every loss (even when valid like in Maui) is something a mature coach should mention in private if at all. He needs to stop.

Coach is awesome! I am very thankful he is our coach. However, his antics are dumb. A grown man and leader needs to understand the situation and control himself.

Just pointing out that some act as if Hurley’s behavior makes him the worst person in the sport, but what he does pales in comparison to what others are doing off the court

I’ve been no fan of the reffing this entire season but while there may have been some questionable calls or non-calls, this loss was more about our shooters getting great looks but not being able to throw it in the ocean and some lazy plays at key times. It is what it is but we had plenty of chances to pull away.

I love Hurley!

I have no idea what he’s doing here, this is one of the first ones I’m kind of embarrassed. What is he talking about? Just general Big East refs screwing them? That’s different than them screwing us in this game. That’s the only thing that makes sense.

I wonder who reffed the Duke/Baylor game. Maybe there were some Big East refs? Otherwise I agree, our game yesterday was pretty fairly called.

They had 2 of the refs from our Friday game and then noted UConn nemesis Brian O'Connell

His ego is explaining/flailing away the loss in the immediate moment, on the AK no call. Within minutes his ego was able to label it as a "honorable" loss on the cbs interview, was classy. His mention of the AK call was muted by the time of the presser. I dont know if it was a foul, but if it was called it changes things. It WAS a turning point in a coaches "why did we lose" immediate thoughts, along with the rebounding on FTs. Dan Hurley tends to blame outwardly reflexively in the moment before he gets more introspective. This one doesnt bother me. Their season just ended in a sudden way. F the hot mic in the hallway leaving the arena

I would imagine Hurley was talking about the game we just played then. I wouldn't say we got screwed at all, but Hurley pretty much always has a camera on him so this kind of thing is going to get picked up more often than not.

I hate the antics in so far that I don’t think they work. They cost us calls because he looks like a coked up psychopath every second of a game. But you remove that and you remove a lot of what makes him so great.

It’s hilarious to imagine him trying to do this stuff at the NBA level though.

it was just mentioned on national news. Not a good look.

Lame. People have emotions.
Most of us will never know the pressure to compete at this level and what it takes day in and day out. This isn’t a participation trophy contest.

Losing on this stage, having mics and cameras in your face hoping to catch something like this is just where we are as a society.
Lame are your excuses.

Life isn't a participation trophy contest and we all will face some life decisions that are bigger than winning a basketball game.
Some of you folks would cover for this guy if he stabbed a ref during the game.
The guy is a loose cannon that has hurt his team with his antics as much as he has helped the players he loves with his coaching.
Someday he may realize his mistakes, but UConn and the State of Connecticut are paying a ton of money and IMHO too much to be a sore loser and someone who desires the stage as his bully pulpit.
Does anyone here think after his tirades yesterday, the refs and the NCAA will stop looking at him with extra eyes just because UConn lost?
He needs a mentor, I have been saying this for years and if he has one, find someone else.

All coaches have mics and cameras on them. St Johns had some really bad calls go against them in their loss (not a reason for the loss) and we didn't see Pitino act like a child.

Dan Hurley did nicely with his encrypted digs at both Pitino and Creighton. Thats what he should be doing rather than the tireless swearing and name calling at the officials.

Champions act like champions. They are not entitled. Dan Hurley feels he and his team are entitled and in the real world it doesn't work that way.

Golden not only got wildly outclassed in this matchup, but he's incredibly "fortunate" that this isn't the height of the #metoo movement because right now he would be former Florida coach Todd Golden.

This one is weird. If you asked me it's planned. What are they not talking about? The fact that the team could not put the ball in the basket. They are not talking about the failures of the players or coaching, they are talking about Coach. It takes the focus off of on the court play and the kids. Hurley knows damn well there are cameras there and nobody will be dissecting anything off this one. What makes it weird is that he wasn't really popping off on the court. There were a couple times where he was barking and I didnt understand why but he was fairly calm most of the game. I don't think there is any way he could really feel like we were in any way.
