Is it possible that UConn is #1

For those unimpressed with either SC or Stanford keep in mind that it is only November and they were playing each other. That could be why it was low scoring. Defense ahead of offense. What I was surprised at was Stanford's fundamental errors at crunch time. Never saw that from a Tara team before. I would still have both teams ahead of everybody else right now by a big margin.
Five-second call, followed by a Phantom timeout. I thought that only happened in high school. Letting Boston get into the lane with single coverage in crunch time was just as bad. Stanford lost that game IMO.

The only number 1 I care about is at the end of the first week of April.

Well I saw a Stanford team with only two scorers in Jones and Brink and I thought Brink played really well but dont forget she was able to play really well with Boston on the bench. Not taking anything away from Brink shes really good.

South Carolina was able to stay in the game with Boston on the bench and had more scoring options today then Stanford. Stanford had to many players who could not create their own shot.

Rankings SC Stanford UConn in that order

You could see again today that UConn has 4 really good scorers 3 of which scored over 20 pts and at a good percentage. UConns defense is intimidatingly and threw NC State out of sorts. Understand we did this without Dorka a injured Caroline. We wont have Paige and ICE til next season. With a healthy Dorka and Caroline I can only imagine what our game against SC in Feb will be like. We have players who can create off the dribble and who can score under pressure. Time will tell.

SC won because of Beal and Boston. Boston impressed me as an excellent passer out of the double teams. Beal with remarkable clutch 3pts
While I agree that Boston and Beal played a significant role in SC's victory, I'd say SC won because Haley Jones didn't live up to her billing in the end game.

The various experts who cast weekly ballots may not agree
or haven't come to the inevitable conclusion yet...

But on the basis of this afternoon's (late eve in the Med...near Barcelona) matchups,
UConn seems most the impressive team by far.

And can only get better with the addition of a healthy Caroline and Dorka
and of course CD.
No. It’s still SC.

I dont mind us being 3 we are the hunter versus the hunted. Yes both teams are bigger and have more depth then us for the front line. Tough for us to score inside on either of them but we have beaten both teams in the past two years. We had Paige then but we have the healthy Azzi now and the much improved Nika. We also have Aubrey back and we have Lou who can score and what I love about her is she has no hesitation to keep firing. She is a shooter and when she gets hot look out. Luv our start Go Huskies

How can you credit and discredit Beal in the same sentence. Lol she was facing tough defense the second half!

It is Thanksgiving this week, not Christmas. ;)

Not right now. But who knows later? Anything can happen ... jmho

SC might not be #1 before the game. They usually have one head scratching loss in the SEC per season. Looking at their schedule... watch them lose on the road to UGA or Bama
a team like South Carolina that doesn't shoot the ball all that well is usually going to have a game or two where even their terrific defense isn't enough to win.........Stanford had that game in the bag but blew it but I give credit to South Carolina for hanging in there till the end....

For some reason THE CARDINAL lost their minds in the fourth quarter ( and overtime )
The forbidden fruit was hanging from the tree, just out of reach. Maybe if it were
a little later in the year ... a different result.
I predict that we will be # 1 in April, the Gods and Geno willing!

.-.
I think #3 for UCONN would be right, and, at this time of the year, I am happy with that.

Cant jump a number one that beat number 2 on the road.

Could possibly beat a number two who lost at home, but probably not where it was an OT loss to number one.

UConn No 1 this week? No
UConn No. 2 this week? Possibly! But improbable.

But.
, y’all looked great today. You’ll get your shot.
3rd for sure, I am a not likely for 1 or 2 just yet,

For everyone who said Stanford and SC looked "underwhelming"... These are the 2 best teams in the nation early on in the season. A low scoring game in regulation (neither team scored over 70). Testament to tough defense making it hard for the other team to score.

UCONN put up bunches of points against teams they beat last season, then scored under 60 in losses. It's expected when you play a really good team you won't score as much. How about the NC game 53-47 over Stanford back in the day?

UCONN did not look great against Texas. We had the lead up to 17 or so, and let them back in the game. A Texas team, who BTW, also lost to Marquette by the same MOV. So 3 games in, this is the first game against a preseason top 10 team who we looked great against. Let's see how we do in the next few games.

And BTW this was basically with playing just 5 players. Ayanna gave some minutes and had a little production, Caroline gave us some minutes and had no production, and Ines and Amari got 1 minute each. We have a tremendous starting 5. We need more. We HAVE more - it's just they are injured (Ducharme and Juhaz). There is no way Caroline can be 100%. She's a shell of the player who came on gangbusters last season.

The morons who put this team at 6 or lower totally discounted the talent that we have that is NOT named Paige Bueckers. Frankly it was insulting. A 3-seed? Good lawd. Loving this team! Go HUSKIES!!

Numbers are tricky things. Last season UConn lost 6 games, making that team the possessor of one of the worst records in recent history. Stewie's teams lost only 5 games in 4 years. Yet last season the Huskies appeared in the NC game with a run of outstanding wins over very good teams. 6 loses, yikes! And yet . . .

Yes that defense on the free throw in regulation was so tight.
I was referring to her defense on Haley Jones smart ***. She missed those FTs but we don’t go to OT without her three. She’s elite at what she does!

Your absolutely right..She played a real good first quarter but in the 4th she was horrible..certainly not what you would expect from a first team AA

Still a 3. Haven't proven anything more than that... yet.

But The Stanford-SC game shows how we can beat both teams. Guard play, not frontcourt dominance. That's how Stanford built that early lead, and we can outplay the guards on either team. Of course, if they improve their guard play, it will be a battle. And that's why we play the games.

It's possible they're the best team, maybe.

It's not possible that they'll be (or deserve to be) #1 in the polls tomorrow. They'll be #3. With a big gap between them and whoever #4 is.

Too early to have that target on their back. The Gamecocks are. And should be, number 1. For now...

Perhaps you should read with more comprehension than spending time LOL.

Please explain to me how I discredited Beal (BTW, I was only responding to a previous post claiming Boston and Beal won the game for SC)? Jones is supposed to be the great AA yet she missed critical shots that were open, lost the ball on a TO, and couldn't get the ball inbound when Stanford had a chance to win. Boston and Beal were a significant contribution to the SC victory but the Stanford AA had the opportunity to keep SC from being victorious.

Again. It was defense. That’s it that’s all.

Stanford built an early lead because Haley Jones and Brink were playing extremely well and they kept SC off the boards.
