The team has no players. It has no inroads into New York City. It's objectively worse than 4-5 ACC teams.

The rebuild from an 0-18 team that lost it's whole team is going to be much much more difficult than coming into UConn.

Hurley's got the best track record. Over any other up and comer. I don't know about being 'hyped' about him. Just that the other options aren't as good on paper.

If you told me we could get a healthy Matta, I'd be on board. But he won't coach next year, because I don't think he's up to it physically.

One thing I've seen is that Hurley is willing to learn and change. Learned a lot from coach Moore this year. I think he'd pick up a lot from JC at UCONN. He's sought his help at URI even.

As you say, it's a crapshoot. So you place your bet on the option with the best odds. Right now, based on track record, it's Hurley.

Sensible answer, just a little surprised that so many think he is the second coming of JC. If he's the pick I hope he is all everyone wants him to be or this board will roast him alive in a year or two.

I completely disagree for the same points that have posted 100 times on this board.
1 Pitt needs a complete rebuild
2 Pitt has to compete in a more competitive league making it harder to climb into the top 3 in the league
3. Pitt has is in a very competitive recruiting region where as UCONN should be able dominate New England recruiting.
4 We’re paying as much or more.
5 Our brand is substantially stronger than Pitt.

All hires are crap shoots. Remember when most on this board criticized WM for not signing KO right away? A lot of those posters would burn KO at the stake today. Oats would be a bigger crap shoot than Hurley IMO but again, you never know. It is a crap shoot after all.

This is an incredibly terrible post. What do you mean by his offense is poor? Compared to what?

guess we'll see. And I hope I'm wrong, guy seems like a good coach and it's important that uconn gets its perceived "first choice" to demonstrate we're still a destination program

I personally think it's much easier to sell a downed program in the ACC than a downed program in the AAC, whether it's uconn or not.

I definitely don't think that. I do think he's the right guy to right the ship though. This is coming from someone who thinks Oats might actually be a better pure basketball coach. There's a lot more to running a major program though.

There's no second coming of JC for the record. If people aren't willing to give the next guy 3 years to prove something, then it doesn't matter who we hire. I'm hoping everyone realizes we are likely not going to be great next year, unless everything breaks perfectly right.

I think what we are seeing is that most people realize that there aren't a lot of better options out there, and hoping we nail our most likely/best candidate.

You trust your basketball opinions to what other posters are saying. Go watch them this season and look at data and come up with a conclusion.

I don't know what meds you are on or off. But I think you're wrong. Pitt had a brief history, no better than Georgia Tech's....you know the team we once beat in a final? How many finals has Pitt been to? BC has had almost as many good teams as Pitt.

But what I think you're ignoring is that (a) Hurley likes the northeast (b) a UConn guy, Tom Moore, is on his staff (c) a guy who became a UConn guy, George Blaney, brought his basketball career back to life (d) UConn has some decent players and some decent guys coming in (e) Pitt's whole team is transferring, and they were terrible, even compared to UConn (f) UConn has a much bigger name in hoops, and more TV exposure, despite the conferences.

If we want him, and he leaves URI, he isn't going to Pitt. I'm confident of that. It's a much worse job. Much worse. He has significant ties to UConn as well.

Not for nothing, but Hurley is also friends with Jim Calhoun. He's had JC in to talk to his team a few of times in recent years.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jim reached out to Danny or Tom to gauge his interest.

Never once said that was MY assessment. I'm not convinced there is a 'better' option, just pointung out that people can't expect to get where they want in the next year or two and I'm not convinced some on this board wil be that patient.

People would be lukewarm about Roy.

Our program has a problem. The problem is that we were spoiled by the unbelievable greatness of Jim Calhoun. Every thought of how we get a coach who will perform on that level puts us further away from trying to achieve what should be achievable.

List me all the high profile opponents Kentucky plays in the SEC that makes the job one of the most desirable in the sport. You're definitely overrating the conference aspect.

I think I have finally figured the Boneyard out (not everyone but a majority). When we are in play for a coach or recruit they become a must get. Once it is viewed as a done deal everyone come out with a list of their flaws and states we could do better.

Conference is definitely not as big a factor in basketball, because of the NCAA tournament. It's really tough to coach a mid-tier team in a major conference.

I don't think we can exactly go out and get anybody we want people. This conference sucks and we are in the dumper right now. We will be lucky if Hurley wants to come here.
