Everyone remembers Coach summit came to UConn’s locker room to congratulate? Maybe whatever happened later could be related to Alzheimer’s. Everyone remembers how MM reacted when Stewart/Durr won awards? Let’s hope that could be related to Alzheimer’s as well, not a true trait of personality.
As always, your abilities to synthesize are outstanding, @bballnut90 , but I'm gonna nitpick one little statement:
Unless I've missed something, the pettiness has been pretty one-sided from Muffet. I can't remember him ever acting toward her and ND the way she acts toward him and UConn.
Yes who knows what happened with Pat..... in 2006.... perhaps behavior related to her sad disease.... but if that is true... why does the Vol Nation parrot her words "You know what you did"..... she tried to dismantle our program make no mistake about it..... with no apologies..... and if she gets a pass because of early onset.... the fan base sure does not get the same.... they still want to run us in the ditch,,.... which is fine.... but with innuendo and accusations that just are not true.... I have never seen anyone on Volnation or anywhere else come out with facts on their beefs related to our program.... they talk about handbags and apartments.... well that was investigated..... all they can say is that .... well Pat said this and that....
Tenn fans are bruised in the thinking that its history has been eclipsed.... so whatever they want to hang onto it is fine.... you look at any measure of Pat vs. Geno and the facts will say it loud and clear.... I think Pat has been eclipsed in every way except total wins, and that will go by the wayside in a couple of years.... and of course Geno has gotten his records in fewer years.... and the complaint from Knoxville that the cheating is rampant in CT.... I would challenge any fan from Tenn to look up the (very accessible) records on NCAA violations Pat vs Geno and see what you come up with.....
Having said that .... I have nothing against Tennessee and actually pull for them often when I watch them.... they are loaded with talent... I am like many others in thinking that Holly was a bad choice to stick with this long.... and she of course was Pat's legacy and hand picked choice..... the players deserve better than Holly, who has trouble with adjustments, seeing the big picture, incorporating a modern offense, and espousing an antiquated theory that defense rebounding and effort is enough to win a WCBB game.... true 20 years ago maybe but not today....
I also appreciate the Tenn posters who post on this forum.... thank goodness they are more level headed and introspective than the orange sites.....
As for ND.... of course their fans are very provincial..... but I have respect for Muffet as a coach.... and although they are a hated rival.... I respect her coaching chops..... yes she gets mouthy sometimes and so do her players .... but it is in the spirit of good competition.... Muffet gets her players ready for game time... and that I respect about her....
It is funny talking about tennessee and Notre Dame.... I sort of think about Tennessee Lady Vols in the same light as Notre Dame football.... in that they both kinda live off their history.... ND has not won a National championship in 30 years.... yes i know they have made it to the final game.... but for a storied program like ND, you would think that they would have won something since the 80s..... Tennessee is in danger of being irrelevant in my opinion.... America will not hang on Tenn WCBB as they will ND football.... and to keep Holly as coach just because she has a winning record, as her fans point out.... is not enough... when the good coaches are coming to WCBB..... it has been 10 years.... without any final 4 appearances.... i wonder what the promos at the top of next year's CT TN game will be.... back to the glory days 20 years ago.... it is not enough to capture deep interest as there was at the height of the rivalry.....
One more thing ... a general comment.... upon seeing Muffet win her 2nd NCAA title.... made me think and appreciate what we have done over the years.... and what Pat did as well.... multiple titles.... hell, it is hard to win ONE!!!! Mulkey has 2.... Tara has 2 but last one over quarter century ago.... and those are 2 good coaches.... so kudos to Pat and Geno as well in noting the fact that once you win, it is difficult to KEEP winning.....
Mine told me "If you can't say something nice about someone, say it behind their back."I can't answer. My grandmother told me, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything."

Mine told me "If you can't say something nice about someone, say it behind their back."
But now that I think about it, she did have a bit of Irish heritage.![]()
Someone on this thread mentioned how Pat Summitt's teams, even with their coach's fiercely competitive nature, rarely crossed that line to poor sportsmanship or dirty play. As I'm noticing that Muffet started Arike in today's game vs. Toledo, I'm recalling a point of comparison from a 2006 Tennessee-LSU game.
Alexis Hornbuckle scored a fast-break "and-1" and then taunted LSU point guard Erica White, who'd been called for the foul. She was promptly T'ed up. Pat objected to the call in the moment, but after reviewing the video decided not to start Hornbuckle in the Vols' next game.
I wonder what it would take for a sportsmanship-related incident to impact a ND player's playing time. Apparently, quite a lot.
I personally witnessed a particularly egregious version of this at the infamous "mooing" game at TBA. It got pretty bad in the 4th quarter when TN started to realize the game might be getting away from them (I remember we were 7 points ahead with 7 minutes left, and I was feeling pretty good about us holding on). The refs just turned a blind eye. After one really blatant clothesline, D retaliated by just pulling herself up off the floor, readjusting her neck (and possibly taking her pulse), getting open for a catch-and-shoot pass, and draining a three from about 8 feet behind the arc. Game over, for all practical purposes. You are wrong about Summitts teams. They clotheslined Dt and beat the heck out of her most games.
Easy. I’d like the LV to lose every game. I’d like every team in every sport at ND to lose every game. Head to head, I’m with UT all the way.
I don't like either team. That said, hate is such a negative and draining emotion...
That's easy: I DON'T DISLIKE EITHER. I have watched ND for years and a long time with the Lady Vols.To me this is a tough one..Which team do you dislike the most. Notre Dame or Tennessee ?
I have watched ND for years and a long time with the Lady Vols.
Pats teams always challenged a Geno's team and early on beat Uconn.
Great answer ... I’ve nothing to add!!!I suspect that the answer to this question will greatly depend on the age of the respondent: both the chronological age, and the BY "age". For some of us, "the Tennessee thing" isn't a "ghost from another era". It's the same era, the era of UConn, from the early 90's until today. And, as much as we find ND everything that the rest of you do, we remember... we remember Pat's sanctimony (I know, she may have been ill), we remember the vicious smears from the fanbase, and we remember the complaints filed with the FBI ( yes, FBI!) about the conduct of UConn fans, and we remember the UT athletic office surreptitiously filing NCAA complaints via the SEC office, and, if memory serves, Vanderbilt. ND is arrogant, smug, guilty of violent play, denial, and a host of other obnoxious and offensive behaviors - but, sadly, they've got a ways to go to measure "up" to UT's level.

Pat's team did not beat UConn early on. In fact, Tennessee has never had the edge against UConn in their head-to-head series.
The first 5 years of the series the two teams went 5-5 against each other, but then starting in 2000, uconn just totally dominated tennessee accumulating 8 wins to tennessee's one...
For at least 10 years, tennessee hasnt been able to put a team on the court that would have even remotely challenged uconn in any way
