Hit me up.... The concession stand is open for this one.

I didn't follow during the Tennessee years. However my answer is still Tennessee. Having read a lot on that rivalry I just hate Pat and her team. They had the same full of themselves nature mixed with the Maya stuff and the way the world still sees Pat as a saint after all she did to us makes me want to throw up. The fact that her successor has held the same line all these years later infuriates me. ND is a great program I actually love to hate, them but have respect for their talent. I think for me it comes down to a bit more respect for ND because they can back up their cockiness where Tennessee has the cockiness without the skill which makes me angrier.

Man this is a hard one. I hate cop-outs saying it's a tie, and I salute the OP for asking us to force rank this one. I hate all things Notre Dame - all sports, starting with football, Rudy, Joe Theismann (the family pronounces it TEES-man - ND changed the pronunciation to rhyme with "Heisman" during his Heisman Trophy campaign), etc, etc, etc.

BUT, taking a step back, gotta admit the recent ND dust-up probably has me all riled up on ND short-term. When it really comes down to it, over the long haul, I can't let that overshadow my deep-down-to-the-marrow hatred of Tennessee, expressed much more eloquently here...

Everyone remembers Coach summit came to UConn’s locker room to congratulate? Maybe whatever happened later could be related to Alzheimer’s. Everyone remembers how MM reacted when Stewart/Durr won awards? Let’s hope that could be related to Alzheimer’s as well, not a true trait of personality.

Yes who knows what happened with Pat..... in 2006.... perhaps behavior related to her sad disease.... but if that is true... why does the Vol Nation parrot her words "You know what you did"..... she tried to dismantle our program make no mistake about it..... with no apologies..... and if she gets a pass because of early onset.... the fan base sure does not get the same.... they still want to run us in the ditch,,.... which is fine.... but with innuendo and accusations that just are not true.... I have never seen anyone on Volnation or anywhere else come out with facts on their beefs related to our program.... they talk about handbags and apartments.... well that was investigated..... all they can say is that .... well Pat said this and that....

Tenn fans are bruised in the thinking that its history has been eclipsed.... so whatever they want to hang onto it is fine.... you look at any measure of Pat vs. Geno and the facts will say it loud and clear.... I think Pat has been eclipsed in every way except total wins, and that will go by the wayside in a couple of years.... and of course Geno has gotten his records in fewer years.... and the complaint from Knoxville that the cheating is rampant in CT.... I would challenge any fan from Tenn to look up the (very accessible) records on NCAA violations Pat vs Geno and see what you come up with.....

Having said that .... I have nothing against Tennessee and actually pull for them often when I watch them.... they are loaded with talent... I am like many others in thinking that Holly was a bad choice to stick with this long.... and she of course was Pat's legacy and hand picked choice..... the players deserve better than Holly, who has trouble with adjustments, seeing the big picture, incorporating a modern offense, and espousing an antiquated theory that defense rebounding and effort is enough to win a WCBB game.... true 20 years ago maybe but not today....

I also appreciate the Tenn posters who post on this forum.... thank goodness they are more level headed and introspective than the orange sites.....

As for ND.... of course their fans are very provincial..... but I have respect for Muffet as a coach.... and although they are a hated rival.... I respect her coaching chops..... yes she gets mouthy sometimes and so do her players .... but it is in the spirit of good competition.... Muffet gets her players ready for game time... and that I respect about her....

It is funny talking about tennessee and Notre Dame.... I sort of think about Tennessee Lady Vols in the same light as Notre Dame football.... in that they both kinda live off their history.... ND has not won a National championship in 30 years.... yes i know they have made it to the final game.... but for a storied program like ND, you would think that they would have won something since the 80s..... Tennessee is in danger of being irrelevant in my opinion.... America will not hang on Tenn WCBB as they will ND football.... and to keep Holly as coach just because she has a winning record, as her fans point out.... is not enough... when the good coaches are coming to WCBB..... it has been 10 years.... without any final 4 appearances.... i wonder what the promos at the top of next year's CT TN game will be.... back to the glory days 20 years ago.... it is not enough to capture deep interest as there was at the height of the rivalry.....

One more thing ... a general comment.... upon seeing Muffet win her 2nd NCAA title.... made me think and appreciate what we have done over the years.... and what Pat did as well.... multiple titles.... hell, it is hard to win ONE!!!! Mulkey has 2.... Tara has 2 but last one over quarter century ago.... and those are 2 good coaches.... so kudos to Pat and Geno as well in noting the fact that once you win, it is difficult to KEEP winning.....

As always, your abilities to synthesize are outstanding, @bballnut90 , but I'm gonna nitpick one little statement:

Unless I've missed something, the pettiness has been pretty one-sided from Muffet. I can't remember him ever acting toward her and ND the way she acts toward him and UConn.

Thanks, I agree by and large it has been mostly Muffet. As far as incidents, the Geno-Arike tweet when she was being recruited was definitely petty/uncalled for, although it was pre-Notre Dame. As far as the recent game, if you believe Geno said something to instigate Arike it doesnt put him in a good light. And not Geno, but UCONN's Stewart posting that she was blocked by Muffet is just adding another log to the fire, even if it did stem from Muffet's pettiness. I've kind of loved the drama this past week so I think it's entertaining to see more fuel added to the fire rather. Not everyone's taste, but you'll be certain that if these two meet for the title it will bring in a lot more viewers than most years.

TN is unimportant! They now rank with the has-beens of WCBB, Auburn, Alabama, La Tech, GA, SoCal, the OSU, Old Dominion, Virginia, PSU, and several others! Their fans scream to the hills, "we USED to be great!"
Holly Warlick is the pay-back for the meanness of TN's past! Hopefully she'll get a lifetime contract!
ND has never been a big-time Champion like UCONN so they don't know how Champions should carry themselves and constantly act like 5th graders that try to shout down the nay sayers!
It amazes me that they had to have spent valuable time in practice during the Skylar Diggins era practicing "flopping" to get the ref calls on charges to pull out wins they weren't talented enough to earn!

I wont dive into a lot of this, but I dont think Tennessee really is relevant in today's day and age of womens basketball aside from being a steady top 10-top 20 team. The history is there, but it has been 10 years since weve made a Final Four, ten years since we held the #1 ranking at some point, 3 years since a Sweet 16, an aging fan base that's declining and almost zero presence in the WNBA aside from Candace Parker, and she will be in her 12th year as a pro next season. The only real relevance I can think of is that it's a bigger pat on the back to say you play at Tennessee vs playing at say Louisville or Oregon State or even Mississippi State since the average sports fan will know a little about Pat Summitt/Tennessee being a central figure in womens basketball.

For me it is simple... Tennessee will always be public enemy #1
ND was once part of our league and for that reason alone I will route for them against anyone other than UCONN as we were very instrumental in their development to be the team that they are today.

I will add though that with PaT no longer at the helm, a victory against Tennessee is less satisfying these days. My only comfort is the image of Pat losing it in the Spiritual Realm, with each additional accolade Geno and the UConn Huskies recieves..

Prior to last week’s game, I would have said I hate UT more, particularly due to Pat’s decision to end the regular season games. But after the fiasco (for ND) on Sunday, I would definitely say I hate ND more. On the plus side, it’s been absolutely wonderful to see all the ND hate, not to mention the sanctimonious non-apologies from Muffet and Arike. You can also toss In the favoritism shown to ND by allowing Shepard to play rather than having to redshirt last year. I hope to watch the UT-ND game, and I’ll find something orange to wear. Maybe.

Easily Notre Dame for me. That face Skylar Diggins used to make after they beat UConn in games from 2011-2013 is a thorn in my side. She is the one responsible for reviving their program, everything in South Bend elevated from her recruitment. —And Tennessee can’t hold a candle next to UConn. Excited that they’re us playing again after all the controversy that the rivalry entails has decreased to a respectable level. UConn will beat Tennessee by 30 or 40 until Warlick leaves.

Someone on this thread mentioned how Pat Summitt's teams, even with their coach's fiercely competitive nature, rarely crossed that line to poor sportsmanship or dirty play. As I'm noticing that Muffet started Arike in today's game vs. Toledo, I'm recalling a point of comparison from a 2006 Tennessee-LSU game.

Alexis Hornbuckle scored a fast-break "and-1" and then taunted LSU point guard Erica White, who'd been called for the foul. She was promptly T'ed up. Pat objected to the call in the moment, but after reviewing the video decided not to start Hornbuckle in the Vols' next game.

I wonder what it would take for a sportsmanship-related incident to impact a ND player's playing time. Apparently, quite a lot.

You are wrong about Summitts teams. They clotheslined Dt and beat the heck out of her most games.

Until the last game, I would have said TN. Now, ND, without a doubt., That player's classless moves, reminiscent of dumb players by Syracuse and Rutgers players in days gone by, were complemented by the behavior of that coach, who seems to think there was just an eensy-weensy problem with player deportment. The dislike of TN will come back once UConn starts playing them, but they will have to go a long way to catch up with ND.

I just want to say that a majority of LV fans want Warlick gone; it’s only the worst homers and old timers that want to stand by Warlick. We aren’t a delusional fan base: we know there are coaching issues with our program.
As far as the whole Maya Moore situation goes, I feel like that’s ancient history, and I for one am sorry the rivalry ended.

I personally witnessed a particularly egregious version of this at the infamous "mooing" game at TBA. It got pretty bad in the 4th quarter when TN started to realize the game might be getting away from them (I remember we were 7 points ahead with 7 minutes left, and I was feeling pretty good about us holding on). The refs just turned a blind eye. After one really blatant clothesline, D retaliated by just pulling herself up off the floor, readjusting her neck (and possibly taking her pulse), getting open for a catch-and-shoot pass, and draining a three from about 8 feet behind the arc. Game over, for all practical purposes.

Easy. I’d like the LV to lose every game. I’d like every team in every sport at ND to lose every game. Head to head, I’m with UT all the way.

Gotta go with the Irish. Tennessee is too nice, their coach unable to chew nails like Pat. And ND, is nasty underneath, going back years, undercutting, clothes-lining, grabbing and throwing to the floor, a familiar bag of tricks too frequent to ignore, or forgive. And Muffet's stuff about Pat being the last classy coach was an insult to all sarcastic, Italian coaches, particularly our wise voice of women's basketball.
