Injury report for tomorrows game

.-.
Azzi and Ayanna are the ones to follow. Azzi because we hope to get her soon and our out of conference schedule is a tough one, and Ayanna because until Aubrey returns we need a 4th big and with being in a sling no news is bad news. No tentative timeline has been given from what I can tell. As for Morgan, very puzzling and frustrating for an injury that usually resolves itself well before now, but she is not of immediate urgency at least for now.

I am already considering the possibility of Cheli redshirting tbh. Missing all of the practices is crucial development that she has missed.

I guess let’s wait and see where we are in a month.

She wouldn't need to red shirt. She can just not play this year if it came to that.

When Geno gives out 3 “really’s” back to back to back, that’s his absolute maximum superlative. So I’m really, really, really excited about this news…..:)
It's 4 reallies if you don't let a period get in the way. He's gone all soft on us.

This game is a little bit like an exhibition game. I would rather proceed with caution those coming back from injuries. We wont need them to win this game. I am looking for the tweeks the coaches worked on with the players. Improved development. We are young and lack experience and that will come as the season progresses. We have the talent and we have Paige who can take over. No worry's about this game.

Lack experience? UConn has three players that started and played nearly every game last season, including playing in the FF. Also, if they are so young and inexperienced, UConn should not take the court against any team with a no worries attitude.

Tony, I don’t disagree with you about proceeding with caution relative to players coming back from injury. At the same time, the Huskies next 2 games after BU are against a tough USF team and a very good UNC team on the road. Some of these players, i.e. Azzi, need to get the rust off in game situations sooner rather than later.

Do you want Azzi for 2 early out of conference games or would you rather have a healthy Azzi for the rest of the season?

It's an either-or situation? Can't have both?

Having said that, I don't want Azzi, or anyone else, to step on the court for 1 minute before they are 100% ready, and then limited minutes to knock the rust off. If she is 100% (and I don't know that) what is gained by saving her? I trust Geno and they staff to properly manage the returning players.

My answer is “both.” I would also point out that just a few posts ago, you cautioned the BY against “speculation on injuries.” I agree. So suggesting that the decision to play Azzi is a binary choice, implies a level of knowledge about injuries that neither you or I possess. Ultimately, the decision to play or not play Azzi will be up to Azzi, Geno and the medical staff.

I still think if she's good to go to get Azzi out there in any early meaningless game to just shake the rust off and chuck up some butterfly filled adrenaline shots and get it out of her system. Even like 5 minutes or so would be good.

I hate to disagree with my esteemed colleague but “a tough USF team”? The only real interesting thing about this years edition is the fact Jose has upped his Euro Diversity to Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Ivory Coast, Finland, France, Congo, Israel and Latvia. This team was not close to a NCAA bid last year and the quality of Jose’s Euro players has diminished as other more noted achools are now recruiting in Europe. This is not a team to really worry about.

Why does it have to be one or the other? Playing in 2 early conference games in no way means that we won't have Azzi back for the entire season any more than not playing her guarantees a healthy season. We can't know what her future holds, health wise one way or another.
When I listened to Geno speak, he said it's up to Azzi, when she comes to him and says I'm ready then it's let's roll. It sounds like it's now a question of Azzi's confidence in her knee's health. I trust that she will be on the court when she is comfortable that the time is right for her knee, her confidence in herself and the medical team's timing on her clearance to once again help take the Huskies to WCBB's pinnacle.
