If there’s anything we’ve learned over the past few seasons it’s that you can never have enough depth. Mark my word. Kaitlyn will come up big for the Huskies this season.
Yes I agree!!! But my point wasn't that she won't be on ocassion 1st 2nd or 3rd in scoring etc. And won't be the hero in a game or games. My disagrrmeent was with ther poster that said, "Having KK back will allow Chen to be a scorer first." Overall imo we don't want her to be a scorer "1st." An occassional game, sure.

Remember when talking about Azzi's return when Paige was due to return from her ACL injury the Doctor's wanted her to wait 12 to 13 months after the surgery to come back full speed!
Paige didn't play on the European trip at all!
She was cleared a week or two before the first game!
Azzi may be faced with the same instructions!

As Morgan Cheli is getting set for her debut IMHO the more rest/healing a groin injury can get the better!
Once you start getting pulled groins and/or hamstrings the more they reappear!
Knowing UConn's training staff they've been building up her leg strength to avoid future injuries!

Geno has been absolutely glowing in his praise of her. I thought she would just act as a backup to Sarah at the four, but he obviously sees her role as much wider than that. It should be fascinating to watch how he uses her.

After the role Paige was forced to play last year at the 4, Geno could see an opportunity to work on the concept a bit more with Cheli who is bigger but of course not Paige.... but still intriguing to have a big PG at the 4 doing point forward things for periods of time.

She's a beautiful fit with Sarah. You could have Sarah play offense like a wing at one end while Morgan can play the high post. And at the other end Morgan defends the quicker SF,

Sarah is so perfect for this team. Anybody fits with her, Just like Paige.

Excited to see Morgan play. She can do a lot, from her skilled passing, pull-up, and going to the hoop. Plus, her personality is almost like KKs, helping to ignite the team like Nika. Boy are we going to miss Nika, so hoping that Morgan, KK, and Jana can bring the fire that this team thrived on last year. With all our talent, we still need someone to keep our enthusiasm up each possession, as talent alone will not get us to where we want to go. I will be at the game Thursday, so I hope the fans will go nuts on this team and just cheer their minds out. Go Huskies.

The player I most want back tomorrow is KK as she has more upside as a distributor of the ball than Chen. Having KK back will allow Chen to be a scorer first (I find her career Assist to Turnover ratio rather pedestrIan- 1.56 316 assists to 202 to’s). Plus KK is quicker and a better 3 pt shooter.
Funny to have a poster with the name of "Defense" not mention KK's skills as our best defensive guard.;).

This may turn out to be a prescient post. You’ve hit on a good way to think about Morgan’s paradoxical skillset. She was a tremendous PG in high school and even (Paige-like) a player-coach on the court and on the bench. There are a few clips of her HS games where she uses a clipboard on the sideline to explain plays to a teammate.

Morgan may not be the regular PG at UConn and will probably play forward much of the time. But her handles are too good to limit her role to that. She also has elite passing skills that Geno is not likely to lock up on the wing. We may not see much of it this season, but in the coming years I bet we’ll see her passing from the high post often.

On a side note, it’s surprising to me how unlike Morgan is to Caroline. They are a similar size, but Caroline is a more polished perimeter shooter, a crafty shot blocker and a skillful low post scorer. Morgan is a bit (maybe a lot) quicker, has better handles and is really scrappy in the paint as a rebounder and a defender (judging from high school). She also knows how to be a vocal leader. I really hope the two of them get some major minutes on the court together.

I can hardly wait to see Morgan in the starting lineup. Even if it doesn’t happen this season, it will eventually. May her nagging injuries be a thing of the past!

We are what we are. Proceed with caution when bringing kids back. We cant afford any more setbacks. If the kids think theyre ready they may be ready however take it easy is my message. Its a long season and we dont want any more tweeks. The fact that someone posted Morgan and KK are ready for tonite is great news. We are still a team that is a work in process only because we have so many underclassman. As good as Chen has shown she is she still is learning UConns system. Development takes time. Recovering from injury takes time. You may be ready to play but may not be ready to overdue it/full throttle. At UNC may be tuff but I think we win that game. Hey its early in the season and there will be hiccups as we move forward. Look forward to our progress and understand we are still learning.

right on/ but i'd caution that commentary is murky because BYers have no true knowledge of players' health. many times, a player won't even admit to themselves what their true condition is so nobody is really sure of the team's status. while speculation could be expected on the BY, it's really just a crap shoot, and future problems with health can arise at any moment. for me, the talk now won't alter anything but might make folks unnecessarily anxious. wait and see. take things as they come.

Ease up there... I thought we were comparing 5th year Chen with 2nd year KK and we really have nothing to go this year except conjecture since KK hasn't played yet. Let's talk again after the BU game.
Ease up? You looked up Chen's career FG percent when I pointed out her 3 pt shooting deficiency and that 1st year KK is already better than 4th year Chen. We know nothing of 2nd year KK or 5th year Chen. We can use history as a barometer and see that all players (including Chen) have jumps in their percentages in their sophomore year and then flatten out which should put KK well ahead of Kaitlin. To me, Chen has already peaked, and we have better opportunity with KK, hence me wanting to see KK tonight vs. seeing Chen. Chen is a nice second unit scoring option but not a primary ball distributor. Everything in her stats state this but yet this forum wants to glean 1 plus 1 equaling 7 which is simply not logical. This is not Lou Lopez Senechal who was already an elite shooter when she arrived. Heck, even the other Big East coaches didn't vote Chen onto the 1st team pre-season conference team, yet this forum has delusions of grandeur that Chen is a potential All-American and a budding WNBA player. It is my view she's neither. To make into the WNBA, you need to be elite at something-scoring, assists, steals, rebounds, lock down defender and Chen is none of those. Again, she's a fine player and has a role to play on this team but it is with the second unit. If we really have to rely on Kaitlin as our point guard, that means either Paige is hurt or has to play in the front court again meaning one of our bigs has disappointed. Either way, that will not lead to the 12th championship.

I know this is not a popular stance and that this forum frowns upon any contrasting views of unfettered success, but it is still my opinion that I am allowed to have and is supported by the rankings and statistics of the players. I like Kaitlin Chen and want to see her be a successful Husky, I just am not myopic to the situation.

Chen’s numbers can go up by a decent amount. Players don't necessary flatline.

Seneschal saw improvement at UCONN in which she saw a near 60 point jump in efficiency at UCONN from her prior best being .507 EFG% vs .563. This is without playing with Paige.

Muhl saw improvement from her prior best .539 vs .576 her sr year. And 3pt shooting from .343 to .402.

Stewart saw improvement EFG% .628 her sr year vs .569.

Liv Ododo saw her improvement go from prior best .566 to .603 her sr year. .

Megan Walker saw her soph year at .525 EFG% jump to .555 her jr year. OFC no senior year.

We should see at least decent improvements from Chen seeing how she is playing with better teammates and is a 5th year senior and won't be the focus of defense like she has had in the past. How much is the question but there definitely should be more than a slight flatline type of improvement.

I watched a video on the 1995 NC game this morning and 2 things Ann Meyers said as the commentator caught my ear. First, there was widespread concern about the many ACL injuries in women's basketball. Second, Geno complained about Rebecca that she's too unselfish and needs to shoot more [sound familiar?].
