If UConn really gets 20 million or more

Catholics are insulted when they open the newspapers and read the latest scandals that are covered up. They likely would be more insulted by that than HFD's joke referencing that.

For example, this Friar story is more insulting than HFD's joke
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/25/stephen-baker-friar-sexual-abuse_n_2758088.html

or this Friar story

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/...l-apologizes-sex-abuse-remarks_n_1848122.html

I honestly have never seen anything like this on any message board before. You apparently don't realize that what you linked are two stories about Franciscan Friars and that PC is a Dominican school of a completely different order. I'm shocked the mods are letting this continue. Speaks volumes about Husky fans.

I don't take these boards too seriously. But, honestly, I'm in no mood and don't know why we are allowing this jackass to post here. PC must have a board somewhere where he can jerkoff.

Deserve has nothing to do with it.

The question and ongoing arguments are about should UConn, Cincy, and USF as the only current full members of the BE release the NCAA credits, discount any contractual exit fees, allow departing teams to leave early, and/or sell the BE name and trademarks to the C-7?

The short answer is why should they?

The longer answer is "no," on the credits, "Hell no," on the exit fess, "What's it worth to you," on leaving early, and "I don't think so," on the trademarks"

Other than leaving early, which is a cash deal, someone needs to explain to me what these schools gain by giving up their assets for free or pennies on the dollar.

We're the ones discussing what's deserved or not. They are the ones hashing it out. At a minimum, UConn needs to get $20m out of this because of potential exit fees.

Won more what? They've never been to the BCS and never been to the sweet 16. You're embarrassing yourself. Stop

They actually had an Elite 8 run in 1945. Last year at The Warde Breakfast Center, they outlined the "amazing" run in a video during halftime. I had courtside seats right behind Providence's althetic director and his guests. The athletic director was not there at the time, but I was certainly getting the attention of his guests. The student section was right behind us and during the presentation I had a converstation with one of them. I told them it was pretty impressive that they celebrate Elite 8 runs. I told him of the great stories of when we hang national championship banners and then move on to attempt and get more. Why didnt we do a 10 year celebration of the 99 victory?

The student quickly turned it into the UConn infractions deal and how we are cheaters.

CAHusky is referring to USF. Nice rant though.

I appreciate the compliment. Screw USF too and all their hot chicks.

I know and I wish we would stop. That includes Aresco. The second they decided to leave he should stop advocating for them. (The remaining BE schools got him to sign a non-compete, right? No? WtF!!)

I am not up on what the total kitty of exit fees and credits are. I fully expect some would go to the departing schools to grease the skids on a deal. IMO it should be $1 more than the projected cost if them suing their way out early.

I am also sure we need to pay some of the incoming schools a token amount to help them up as a welcoming gift. Temple is owed some money too as a current FB member.

On the whole $20M seems light to me, especially if that includes the name, which I wouldn't sell anyway. Not selling MSG either, let MSG break the contract if they want the C-7 tourney.

If a smiling man stabs you in the back repeatedly, his smile does less and less to signal good intentions.

You just ignored what I wrote. What doormat has a winning record? What doormat goes. 500? Go back and read what I wrote.

You are here waxing lyrical about a teeny short period between 1982-1985 when G'town was God. The early days lasted all of 5 years.

let me tell you, we would not be here today discussing the value of the BE if it were left up to the Catholics. The BE would be a blip on the screen of basketball history with hardly anyone thinking it was a big deal. G'town for instance went to 1 Final 8 from 1989 to 2007!!!!

Here's something else: the BE--during the entire period that UConn was carrying it and making sure it didn't fall off the face of the earth and become another A10 or worse--was being knocked in the media and hardly even considered a great bball conference. Let me tell you when the BE's rep really exploded: when Louisville, Cincy and Marquette were added. That's when the league's rep blew through the roof. Before that, it was all UConn and the others.

This is total BS. The rep blew through the roof the year GTown, Nova and St, Johns all made the final four (never before done), and Nova won in that improbable upset over the defending champions. That season made the league. People here have very short memories. By my calculations, Georgetown won 44 NCAA games while in the BE and UConn won 48, Syracuse 45. The differences are not nearly as dramatic as is suggested (especially if you consider the expansion to 64 in 1985). Those three teams have been the best over the life of the league, also winning most (19) of the BET titles. Has UConn been the best of them all? Sure. But saying that any one school ever carried the Big East is ridiculous. Our first final four was 20 years after the league began, the name was pretty well established at that point.

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever read on the Boneyard. Strawman after strawman.

After the mid 80s, Georgetown went to ONE Final 8 in 18 years. The league's rep would have been in absolute tatters were it not for UConn, and the truth is, it was in tatters. It was known as UConn, basically. You're singing the praise of a very brief span in the league. I do acknowledge that it had a huge rep in that span. BUT, when it did nothing for the next two decades outside of UConn, it lost that rep. We were all here. We saw it. BE was an afterthought to the SEC and ACC and B10 and B12. The BE would have been a blip in college basketball history.

Are you being serious by aggregating number of games won? I can't figure out if you're being serious.

Your post says absolutely nothing about National Championships. I'm going to state this but you may disagree: Championships are important.

I think the point he is trying to make is that you are completely discounting something that by happening allowed/enabled/helped UConn become the power they are. UConn did not do this alone and the way you rant makes you sound beyond insecure. By recognizing that all in this league helped each other in some way does not in anyway take anything away from the tremendous successes UConn has had.

Go see a shrink.

How could he disagree? As a fryer he does not have a clue what winning a championship is like.

You realize he's debating a UConn fan with this statement right? But as we know reading comprehension is severely lacking on here.

You're the one with the huge mental problems born of envy.

You want to believe the BE was relevant post 1980s, but it wasn't. People made fun of the underperformance of the league up until 2003-2004. It was a joke. UConn was the only thing it had going for it. That's a fact it. It fell off drastically. We all heard it, we all knew it. You want to maintain it still had some glory, but the days were long gone. UConn carried it during that period. And the only thing that blew up its reputation to what it was say in 2011 were the 4 national championships during the prior 12 years and the addition of Louisville.

Providence is like BC Ultra Light. It is the epitome of "who gives a duck?".

Ban this turkey.........

I'm simply stating once again as clearly as I possibly can that the early successes of the league helped elevate the Husky program, if we cannot agree on that then I don't have much else to add. There is no debating that the last 20 years, UConn has been the number one team in helping maintain the BE brand, that is not worth debating either.

A Boneyard post from back on 5/11/98

Calhoun is the most selfish coach in college basketball. First off, he cheets in getting recruits. Second, he presured RIP in coming back so he could of finally a real chance at getting a shot at the final four. The hole country knows that UCONN is a joke in college basketball. They have top 5 talent every year, but still loose to inferior competition, can you say choke? Just look at ALL the NBA players who came from UCONN (all were paid btw), yet NO final fours, hahaha, you guys are pathetic. RIP is good, but he's not going to lead you to the Championship, maybe the weak @ big east, but surely not the NATIONAL. RIP should of gone to the NBA and be a bust instead of coming back for yet ANOTHER final 8 lost. UCONN will NEVER get there, just deal with it!! El-Amin is a joke too, that fat slob is a waist of a scholorship, and he'll end up having kids left and right. Once again, Calhoun should be ashamed of himself in risking a player's future. I like Calhoun as a PERSON, but as a coach and recruiter, he just doesn't have it.

Boy, things haven't changed over the years with all the Providence trolls, have they?

No offense but what exactly are you contributing to or board? You think Providence is great, we think your empty trophy case says otherwise. You laugh at our current predicament, we know, long term we will be fine. What else needs to be said?

Go find where I said PC is great. I will wait patiently. This thread in my eyes has been about the amazing disregard for the 1st 15 years and the start of the BE being tossed away so we can anoint UConn as the all time BE savior. I'm simply trying to make a case that it is more complicated than that.

Good God, enough with the PC clowns - now you are throwing UConn fans off a UConn board? Get the history straight - the C7 have contributed nothing to the Big East name in about 15 years, and for Providence the record is even worse. You have 1 Big East title EVER, we have 6. You have been in the NCAA tournament twice since 1999 while we have won 3 National Championships. You have been past the NCAA first round 1 time in the last 26 years! The last time you even won 20 games, which we are going to do on a widely down year in terms of talent (but not heart) was 10 years ago.

The history shows you have never been in our league, and now after undermining the league at ever turn for years it is finally official.

So my question is, did my post sufficiently add to the conversation that you will grant me the privilege of staying?

here is what everything comes down to. we can have prov vs uconn arguments for ever if we want. uconn fans will point to banners and trophys and nba players and prov fans will point to a very respectable history 20 years ago and a new future with the BE and the CWO....

but here is where things get messy. uconn fans know that even with everything going on, we can still put 2+2+2 together and see where the end is. prov fans on the other hand can only do 2+2. see this is going to blow your mind. the future is teams breaking away from the ncaa or atleast creating a new higher d1 then the current 1. what thats going to result in is a money change. its not going to be the "pay players" bs line u hear all the time. whats going to happen is the worth of a scholarship is going to change and its going to become ever across the board. so what your going to have is a player can get a sship and its worth lets say 50k. if uconn gets a in state kid then its really only 25k so how does that work? how it works is the ncaa(or w/e govern body) will place values on education, meal plans, casual $ etc. they are simply going to alot so much money to certain things. a players "walk around" $ will go up a lot. the players "bookstore and goods" moeny will go up a lot. now at vandy the education may cost 40k there vs 25k at uconn. well then going to vandy becomes a bit more special of a thing for athletes and a bit less cash in pocket. its a life choice. but it also places value now on if u go to stanford or miss st. thats the end game 10-20 years down the road.

we all hope but can't say for sure if uconn makes a power conf. but even if we dont we will be in a best of the rest conf that will be playing and paying like the big boys. see the dream is to join them. always will be so u follow them. that goes for all schools fball wise who have major goals. here is what u providence fans miss. u can not and will not leave the ncaa/current d1 becuase all u have is bballa nd other sports and need that govern body to exist. so in the future u will not be paying 15 bball players a year like the new higher d1 schools can. the result will be what? prospects are going to go to the big boys 100 out of 100 times becuase on top of exposure is worth. the best players will follow the best coaches who will folloow the $.

but u providence fans dont get it still. u all think uconn made a fball team for fun just to play around for a couple years. u dont understand the split coming and how a lot of small bball schools are going to get left behind. so please, keep yucking it up. u and your fanbase is taking a small win(is it even a win? more like just a move...) that u have lacked for the last 15 years and trying to pump chest meanwhile u are all extremely blind to what the future holds.

I think everyone can safely agree that Providence College is not great at anything....I'm glad you have finally seen the light.

Fair enough Nostradamus. However, again none of that is what I have been debating with Upstater and HuskyHawk.

Hey, Skippy - I've been "adding" to these UCONN boards for the better part of a decade. You are nothing more than the latest troll to become an annoyance. I'll be on this board long after your ass is banned.

Current NCAA Directors Cup standings. We are not at UConn's level but not bad for a school with 3,500 students. Men's Hockey should elevate this standing soon and if by some miracle the BB team makes the NCAA's it will go higher, and the Lacrosse team this year is looking pretty good also.

Also PC is number 2 in the country in schools that do not play any type of football.

4 Notre Dame
14 Georgetown
15 Syracuse
22 Connecticut
25 Louisville
37 Marquette
42 Villanova
45 Providence College
74 Rutgers
110 Cincinnati
111 South Florida
154 Pittsburgh
154 St. John's

Seton Hall

You have been adding something; really? I have not seen it. Not saying you have not, simply stating that your game lately has been very weak.
