I've been hoping for him since the beginning, but if he comes here it won't be because he didn't have better offers.

People act like he totally failed at Mississippi St and it's not true. He just wasn't a fit and there was a lot of BS going on there. Even Mississippi State fans will tell you he should have cut half the roster

What makes you think he wants to be here? What makes you think we can afford him? And you’re correct, I’m not making any decision. I just think someone fresh is needed.
Cincy pays over 3 mil for Fickell. Their athletic budget as of right now (per-Big 12 move) is significantly smaller than UConn. UConn can afford Moorhead. I will give you the fact he may not want to be here, but he is one of the top offensive mines in the game today so he needs to be target #1.

Did you misplace a decimal there?
No. Chin quoted $25 to $30 million over 6 years, the length of the contract, not sure if it’s 6 years though for Rutgers on the figures I read.

Oh, over the life of the contract.

He just got an increase too, didn’t he?

I'm not sure that's right. UConn was $78.8M and Cincy was $74M. And I'm pretty sure that $74M was before Fickell's raise. That's not to say UConn can't afford Moorhead.

Fickell's new contract pays him $3.4m annually. It also increased his salary pool for assistant coaches and support staff to $3.85 million (UConn is +/- $2m).

If UConn was 2nd in the country, and the Rent at SRO for every home game, UConn would happily pay that too. And be looking at a big raise the following year.

It was approved and signed in 2020.

Rutgers gets P5 money
UConn has chump change
Rutgers athletic budget is well over $100 million, even with their conference money (roughly $25 million a year) they still are running a huge deficit. The P5 money helps but relatively speaking it’s also chump change.

Yeah, where’s the outrage? Or is that just a CT thing?

UConn has only chump change??? Tell that to the bank manager where Hurley deposits his $2.9 million annual salary. Show me another 3rd year basketball coach anywhere where the basketball coach makes more than the FBS football coach.

Penn State isn’t targeting Moorhead in the off chance Franklin isn’t leveraging the AD for more money for facilities and assistant coaching salaries.

Moorehead has done a lot to rehab his image within college football since Mississippi State - it seems there’s general understanding that was not a cultural fit. He would definitely be in the running for the Penn State job, should it open (which, after Saturday, Franklin looks a lot less attractive, doesn’t he?)

Anyway, hope you’re right!
Moorehead has done a good job of rehabbing his image for sure, but having a cheating scandal, a fight that causes the loss of a key guy and a breakdown in a press conference is more that not being a cultural fit. I’d tread carefully and ask some tough questions.

It is a simple question, yes or no? I voted YES although I rather doubt UConn's ability to pull it off.
I'm undecided. Us fans are looking at JM, but would he the GUY to lead us to the Promise Land (a New Year Bowl?). Do you think he wants to help us, after seeing SEC and Pac 10?

I hope so, but I'm wondering if he will come back...

What the hell does Hurleys salary have to do with the overall finances at UConn. Also, Hurley is not in his 3rd year coaching. What do you think Scheyer will make as a 1st year head coach - guarantee he'll make more than the football coach? Don't think the new Cuse coach or most any new ACC BB coach makes more than the football coach?
Again, Rutgers earns so much more money due to conference affiliation than UConn will ever get at the NBE. Period.

Well, we are only 3 days in out of 7 and it is already clear that it's a landslide for JM. The fans have spoken. This sets a high bar for DB. Anyone else that gets the job is gonna be at least a partial disappointment for the BY'ers. Not a huge disappointment since we know the challenge, but a disappointment nonetheless. It will depend a lot on who gets it. But I can say this, The last three hires have given me personally a fair amount of mandibular pain I yawned so much. I am hoping for someone who makes most of us go "Oh, Yeah"!!!!!

At this point I’d be happy with “that works”…
I would love someone who won't go run, run, pass, punt (or fake punt). I want to hire a coach that will give us a Defense that will be in the top 10 and an Offense that average 55 points a game. If JM is the guy, yes...

As I said before, think he wants to come back to UConn? That's what worrying me, he might say us, the bridge was burned.

I still think that Moorhead or Herman should be priority #1. Entice them with everything you got. With Puma at QB, Carter at RB and our receiving core, both can come in and win relatively quickly. I hold no delusion that either would want to come here as they can get higher profile jobs. If they don't come, Cignetti or Entz should be the next priority. Both have head coaching experience and have shown they can succeed wherever they go. If that doesn't work, Harasymiak should be the next target. Successful at Maine and doing well at Minnesota. Knows New England and can get our defense back to what we are used to seeing. Then maybe Orlando if no else.

The thing I like about Moorhead is not only is he a brilliant offensive mind, but he recruited very well for the short time he was the OC here at UConn.

I have this feeling that Herman would be more unlikely to come to UConn than Moorhead. Bigger step back and a southerner.

Herman is a good coach especially when he had talented players. I don’t know if he has the toughness to handle a job like UConn. His most successful team lost to UConn.

Perhaps that the board of trustees has decided that the school is fiscally able to pay a head coach $3 million a year?
