Moorehead has done a lot to rehab his image within college football since Mississippi State - it seems there’s general understanding that was not a cultural fit. He would definitely be in the running for the Penn State job, should it open (which, after Saturday, Franklin looks a lot less attractive, doesn’t he?)

Anyway, hope you’re right!
There’s plenty of really good coaches out there. Dave Clawson, Dan Lanning ( Has Georgia’s defense playing lights out ), Bill O’Brien ( Former Penn State HC hot OC name out there ) and many more.. Moorhead is not the only option out there for schools like Penn State.

Yeah for sure. If Penn State does open, it’s far from a sure thing Moorehead would be hired

Where do you see that Franklin is leaving? He's one of those coaches that every time there's an opening somewhere uses it as leverage for more money but never is serious about going. Penn State seems like a cushy gig: make sure the kids go to class, ensure no rapes occur in locker room showers, go 8-4 or 9-3 most years with a decent bowl game, and get paid lots of money. Everyone in that league has ceded the throne to Ohio State, so a lower bar has already been established making coaching life easier. You won't get that kind of leeway at USC which churns through coaches.
He fired his agent and there's a bunch of in fighting at that program. Seems like a pretty clear sign to me that's he's considering leaving. Apparently he already met with LSU.

Penn State is going to hire a top head coach, not a guy who washed out at Mississippi State after two years. They're going to be looking at a guy like Dave Clawson.

I don't think folks here appreciate the fact that most coaches who don't get the job done in their first stop absolutely take a step down if they go for another HC gig. Moorhead might get a better offer than UConn, but he might not, and if not, he's probably coming back. I don't know why folks are so down on Moorhead returning, but it's absolutely on the table.
I've been hoping for him since the beginning, but if he comes here it won't be because he didn't have better offers.

People act like he totally failed at Mississippi St and it's not true. He just wasn't a fit and there was a lot of BS going on there. Even Mississippi State fans will tell you he should have cut half the roster

What makes you think he wants to be here? What makes you think we can afford him? And you’re correct, I’m not making any decision. I just think someone fresh is needed.
Cincy pays over 3 mil for Fickell. Their athletic budget as of right now (per-Big 12 move) is significantly smaller than UConn. UConn can afford Moorhead. I will give you the fact he may not want to be here, but he is one of the top offensive mines in the game today so he needs to be target #1.

Did you misplace a decimal there?
No. Chin quoted $25 to $30 million over 6 years, the length of the contract, not sure if it’s 6 years though for Rutgers on the figures I read.

Oh, over the life of the contract.

I'm not sure that's right. UConn was $78.8M and Cincy was $74M. And I'm pretty sure that $74M was before Fickell's raise. That's not to say UConn can't afford Moorhead.

Fickell's new contract pays him $3.4m annually. It also increased his salary pool for assistant coaches and support staff to $3.85 million (UConn is +/- $2m).

If UConn was 2nd in the country, and the Rent at SRO for every home game, UConn would happily pay that too. And be looking at a big raise the following year.

It was approved and signed in 2020.

Rutgers gets P5 money
UConn has chump change
Rutgers athletic budget is well over $100 million, even with their conference money (roughly $25 million a year) they still are running a huge deficit. The P5 money helps but relatively speaking it’s also chump change.

Yeah, where’s the outrage? Or is that just a CT thing?

UConn has only chump change??? Tell that to the bank manager where Hurley deposits his $2.9 million annual salary. Show me another 3rd year basketball coach anywhere where the basketball coach makes more than the FBS football coach.

Penn State isn’t targeting Moorhead in the off chance Franklin isn’t leveraging the AD for more money for facilities and assistant coaching salaries.

Moorehead has done a good job of rehabbing his image for sure, but having a cheating scandal, a fight that causes the loss of a key guy and a breakdown in a press conference is more that not being a cultural fit. I’d tread carefully and ask some tough questions.

It is a simple question, yes or no? I voted YES although I rather doubt UConn's ability to pull it off.
I'm undecided. Us fans are looking at JM, but would he the GUY to lead us to the Promise Land (a New Year Bowl?). Do you think he wants to help us, after seeing SEC and Pac 10?

I hope so, but I'm wondering if he will come back...
