………..and a relatively new head basketball coach at that, who prior to UConn coached at URI and Wagner. Oh “what the hell”……….Perhaps that the board of trustees has decided that the school is fiscally able to pay a head coach $3 million a year?

He does know QB’s, flew down to Virginia to recruit Mike Nebrich who had broken just about every HS passing record in the state. He saw something in Nebrich that Pasqualoni, Deleon, and the rest of the coaches didn’t. When JM left UConn for Fordham, he called Nebrich after he left school and talked him into enrolling at Fordham. Unfortunately, Nebrich blew his knee a year (I think) later, and was never the same. And he knows QB. Something we haven't had much luck with development since Dan O.
He made Fordham into a contender every year. Moorhead completely turned around PSU's offense and got them in the top 10 consistently. He obviously wasn't given a proper chance down at MSU, but he's showing he can make competent offenses with Oregon. OSU has a very very good defense and Moorhead had schemes making them look awful. With Puma next here and Calhoun coming in, Moorhead has the pieces to make the offense one of the top in the country. If he can assemble an even mediocre defensive staff, that team can finished ranked next year.He does know QB’s, flew down to Virginia to recruit Mike Nebrich who had broken just about every HS passing record in the state. Costal Carolina was ranked with a significantly weaker schedule. Winning the majority of the schedule next year gets UConn to at least 25.
You had me until ranked next year.He made Fordham into a contender every year. Moorhead completely turned around PSU's offense and got them in the top 10 consistently. Hey, stranger things have happened. Look at UCF 0-12 in 2015 and a couple years later won it all. Got robbed of a National Championship. You had me until ranked next year.
IDK- but UConn was a better football job when Diaco was hired. We were the next school or two to be selected for P5 or so the conventional wisdom was. Now we are an Independent being considered for the Confeence USA with loses this season to HC, UMass and Middle TN.“What kind of coaching pool can UConn get? When former AD Warde Manuel hired Diaco in 2013, he was one of the country’s top coordinators at Notre Dame. He beat out a pool that included Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman.”
Connecticut governor declares UConn is 'all in' on big-time college football despite its current spot at bottom
Any notion of UConn punting on football, de-emphasizing football or angling for football to drop down a division is strongly disputed.sports.yahoo.com
Tom Herman was at running for the job before and was beat out by Diaco according to this article. Herman also coached north at Ohio State. I don’t see why we don’t have a chance.
Wow didn't expect to be so attacked. The Boneyard would erupt if we got Joe M here. And it would not be surprising that most of the male fans at the Rent would look like this when we scored our first TD of his regime.
Yeah, maybe Mississippi State will hire him back.If Oregon continues to roll I just don’t see how Moorehead doesn’t get a P5 offer.
The Conference consideration for C-USA was/is a dud. Was never going to happen. They wanted clout cause we have a brand. Come on chief UConn is still a football program with a lot of pluses that many have listed on here and so has Dave.IDK- but UConn was a better football job when Diaco was hired. You are a head coach - you get offered the same money to be head coach at UCONN or a P5 school. Which would you take?Yeah, maybe Mississippi State will hire him back.
Look at it this way though. P5 great opportunity and money, but you don’t turn the ship around quick and it’s off with your head. Coming to UConn for the same money you can have five years to establish your roster with your recruits. If you right UConn ships around the coach maybe offered better P5 gigs. It’s just another way to look at it.You are a head coach - you get offered the same money to be head coach at UCONN or a P5 school. Which would you take?
He will have P5 options.
1000% coaches and players in sports are very competitive, he might want a challenge.Someone like Morehead is already wealthy. Salary is just a matter of respect and if he is up for a challenge.
There is also an option to make a ton of money returning to a place he was part of and resurrect a program. He’s a hero if he pulls us over .500 in 2 years. He’s a bum if he’s just over .500 at any P5.You are a head coach - you get offered the same money to be head coach at UCONN or a P5 school. Which would you take?

He may just want to come back and show up Randy Edsall, and show him how it’s done Joe Moorhead’s way. That being said, Benedict, if he hires Moorhead is going to have to be prepared to pay for an expensive group of coaching assistants.Someone like Morehead is already wealthy.
