I really hope Mullins comes back

God, you’re still on this after hearing from him, his family, and people here how obsessed he is with Hurley and the program?
I'm certainly not blind to a school throwing 4mm at him and we won't do more than 2mm (like Indiana), that he might consider it. It's the portal man - gets crazier every year. I don't think it will happen, but you never know.

I'd love to have Mullins back but it creates a log jam at 2-3 with him Ball and Ross. I like what I have seen from Ross' development this year but I wonder if a Mullins return would stunt further growth. Ross needs more minutes. In the end, I just want what's best for the team so I would take Mullins in a heartbeat, but II would feel bad for Ross and always wonder what might have been.
He’s a better player than both of them

Needs to get more secure with the ball and show an ability to create for others. Does he want to do this in the Big East making 500k in NIL or in the GLeague playing in front of no one making 70k?

I'm quite surprised he's mocked as high as he is. Quite weak, nice form but terrible 3P % for being his specialty, questionable decision making. I'd love him as a sophomore in college ball, hate him as a prospect (right now).

.-.
I follow him our NBA UConn player boxscores every night. I'm seeing he gets DNPs mostly. He does not get consistent minutes.
We’re getting farther and farther from the point here. That his minutes have fallen off this year is irrelevant to the discussion.

What happened to Hawkins in the nba
He has made 13.7m dollars over 3 years and had his 4th year option for 7m exercised. So he’ll have banked 20m by this time next year and be a free agent after that.

Getting drafted by the 2nd worst organization in the NBA has hindered his progress, but he’s set for life.

Bleacher Report’s newest mock released today has Mullins going 9th. Seems a bit high given the quality of this draft, but he won’t go lower than 20th. Still think he’ll be late lottery tbh.

I am interested to see what nba scouts think of Mullins. Good size for a SG, decent athleticism and ball handling. Great looking shot.

Lots of work to do on his strength and body. Way too light.

Many have no idea what they’re talking about, slapping a list together on what they read elsewhere.

Finkelstein I’ll buy into.
And he has Mullins the last pick of the first round.

I trust Mullins, his family and the coaching staff to make the right decision for Mullins. There are obviously a lot of factors at play. He and his family don't seem hell bent on getting to the NBA ASAP so that won't cloud their judgment. Whatever they decide to do I'm good with.

He can't make wide open jumpshots consistently, and he brings nothing else to the table, so if you can't do the one thing they put you on the court for then no playing time for you

It's not a simple comparison though since Hawkins was a lottery pick. The hypothetical here is that Mullins goes much later and doesn't play very much.

It didn't work out so well for McNeeley. He should probably do another year in college imo.
It didn't? He made $2.76M this season and is guaranteed $2.9M next season, for a total of $5.66M in two years, with more possible afterward. Not bad, if you ask me.

You're looking at it purely from a basketball perspective and you're probably right from that point of view, but money matters too. A $5.66M guarantee is nothing to sneeze at, and that was for the 29th overall pick. If Mullins gets taken at the very bottom of the lottery- 14th overall- he would be guaranteed $10M over the first two years of his contract. I'd love to have Mullins back and believe he would absolutely benefit as a basketball player from staying in college for another year, but if someone offered me $10M or even $5M to leave, that would be very difficult to turn down.

You stay if it makes better financial sense, and that's it.
that’s the most idiotic answer!

players of Mullins talent and or perceived talent have many decisions and while financial is a major portion, you do not go or stay based on financial sense only! You cannot be this ignorant, however based on your posts here daily you clearly are.

McNeeley had a much more limited upside than Mullins, Hawkins, etc. due to lack of athleticism. He made the right choice.

He brings nothing else to the table?! He has plus size and athleticism at SG. His mid range stats going into the tourney were top 5 in the country. His defense improved considerably throughout the year and he’ll eventually be able to switch 1 through 3. He just turned 19.

Y’all are crazy.

@Chief00 always made the point that the second contract is where you make your money in the NBA. Go to the draft now and hit that payday in 4 years, or return to UConn and push it back a year.

Barring injury I don't think he can really go wrong. He'll make money and get good development either way. Selfishly I'd love to have him back and see him finish more of those drives to the hoop we saw at the end of the season

If you are guaranteed to be a 1st round pick, you go. Period. Full stop.

I remember some on this board saying Thabeet needed to come back and he was drafted 2nd. Made 17m dollars over 5 years (probably 30m in today’s money) and changed his life forever.

Players drafted in the first round can improve in the G league playing against other pros while making several million dollars. Some people seem to think Braylon will be better prepared for the league by putting up 25pts against DePaul in December.
There was another guy named Jim Calhoun who said he needed another year. Not disputing your opinion. Just sayin.

It absolutely is but I wonder if you asked Liam McNeeely who like Mullins was a 5 star recruit and is where Mullins is likely to be drafted if he comes out, if he would rather have been at UCONN or having played 30 games, started 0, has been averaging 12 minutes, 4 points in Charlotte making his 2.8 Million. I wonder if you really ask him his honest opinion what he would have preferred. If you ask me, especially with NIL and how times have changed, I'd have stuck around and tried to improve my draft stock, earned some money, maybe not 2.8Mil. I understand too how going early optimizes their earning potential but sometimes it's better to stick around. I know this is all likely a moot point as Mullins is likely going just wondering if it really is in his best interest to leave now or stick around.
The more primary reason is the possibility of an injury. Some time ago it was rumored that the highest amount of insurance against injury was $1 Mil. by Lloyds of London. Base salary is over $4 mil minimum for top 30 draft choices. LOL quite a dilemma.

Love to have him back but only Braylon can make that decision. First round picks is sadly (for us) part of the culture of Uconn. He's about the same size (6-6) as Chris Mullin though Mullin played four years in college back then. He lasted 15 years, 5 time all star and made around $40 million back then (1985-2001).

Braylon is and always will be a Uconn legend for what he did that day against Duke and bringing us to his home in Indiana. Mr Basketball in Indiana indeed!! No one can ever take that away from him and us!

I personally think he comes back. Getting so close to winning it all and falling short stings and if we get that core group of guys with Ball, Ross, Demary, Stewart, Reibe to run it back again I don’t think he’s leaving much $$ on the table. Come back and be our primary option as a scorer and move up to a top 5 draft pick in next year’s draft which is much weaker than this year. Seems like a win/win.
