I really hope Mullins comes back

Whatever Braylon and his family decide is best for Braylon is the only answer here. We can make a case for going or staying. I fall into the camp that his best option for himself is to come back for a year for the UConn college basketball environment, the closeness of this program, and Hurley's whole developmental process which will have Braylon much more NBA ready as a man and as a player.

Well duh! Liam was a primary option on a much weaker team.
Liam was also more physically ready for the college game. No doubt Mullins is a better pro prospect, but as one and dones go, Mullins was not as impactful as McNeeley as a freshman on a game by game basis. Mullins played like a very talented freshman. He showed glimpses of stardom, but did not shoot at a good percentage overall and was regularly targeted on defense due to his lack of strength. Fairly or unfairly, I think most expected more from him this year based on his ranking and reputation.

He brings nothing else to the table?! He has plus size and athleticism at SG. His mid range stats going into the tourney were top 5 in the country. His defense improved considerably throughout the year and he’ll eventually be able to switch 1 through 3. He just turned 19.

Y’all are crazy.
I was talking about Hawkins in the NBA, instead of calling someone crazy how about you take 5 seconds to actually read the post I was responding to.

He's no Cooper Flagg physically or talent wise. He's a few years away to have any impact in the NBA. The question is will his development be better served at UConn or G league? Financially, I'm sure he could get a ton of NIL here.

He was the better all around player was the overall point.
i would not agree with that at all personally. You being a straight up stat guy shouldnt either. Liams primary pluses over mullins was his ability to draw fouls and get free throws and he was a better overall rebounder. Mullins shot the ball better from 2 and 3 point range, better FT shooter, more steals and blocks.

I'm not a straight up stats guy - Liam was bigger, better rebounder, passer, more physical, could do more off the dribble. He forced a lot of stuff because he had to which brought down his %'s.

FWIW, NBADraft.net doesnt have him in their 2026 mock. They have him in 2027 going 18. And that was updated today.
NBA mock drafts are generally inaccurate, with most analysts correctly predicting fewer than 35% of picks, often struggling significantly after the top 5–10 selections. While top picks are frequently accurate, the rest of the first round is often a "crapshoot". Mock drafts tend to improve closer to the draft date but are still often based on agent-driven information. [1, 2, 3, 4]

FWIW, he should 100% declare and get feedback. So we should fully expect for him to declare at some point. That won’t be the end all though.
Not ideal for us waiting for that - you almost have to recruit around it.

Hes not ready
He’s more than ready from a pure talent perspective. Not so much from a refinement and physical maturity level. However, he’s matured a lot. He’s was in there battling with a very big and physical Michigan perhaps more than I’ve seen before. If he has a nice NIL, I’d rather be playing with Hurley than grinding it out in the NBA in a sink or swim environment where there is limited patience and you head to your nearest G league second city.

Don’t think that’s how Hurley is going to move with the situation.

Worst case scenario, we still have Ball and Ross.

Ok, I retract my statement. The Pelicans are a well-run organization under excellent management with a history of winning and player development. Also the No. 4 pick in the draft is playing really well for the Hornets.
Oh wait, was that sarcasm? Because I never said that the Pelicans were good, or well run, or had a history of winning. What I DID say was that they draft and/or acquire college players that actually perform well for them. They traded for Trey Murphy on draft day, and the Pelicans did not stop Murphy from becoming a star. I can mention others, but you know I am right.

I really don’t understand this take. Do you think the development spigot magically turns off the second they leave for the NBA? Like do you really think if Hawkins had stayed another year he’d be a vastly different player in the NBA? He’d have figured out some things in one year back at UConn that he hasn’t figured out in 3 seasons playing relatively consistent minutes in the NBA?
Short answer: YES. By staying Hawk could have gotten stronger, and work on his dribble, which is deficient for a guard. He also could have worked on his defense, which is also deficient. He was a one trick pony and he found out that there are a lot of good shooters who can also do other things in the basketball court.

Is there a way the admins can filter out any post that discusses this topic?

Weeks of 50% saying he's gone and the other 50% saying he will/should stay is going to drive me insane.

Looks like he just needs playing time. Had a season high 25 last night. Sometimes it's more the organization. Pelicans are one of the worst.
That’s exactly right, it’s all about coaching & organization. Look at our boy Andre Jackson, he was starting until Griffith got fired and doc rivers took over. After that happened, he barely played bc Doc doesn’t play rookies. He didn’t even play Tyrese Maxey much as a rookie

You brought up three things that are probably better served developing in the NBA where he has more time to devote to development (no school or practice restrictions) and better resources for development (much bigger coaching staffs, access to specialist skills coaching, playing against better competition, etc.). That’s kind of the point. There is nothing magical about him staying in school that would have led to materially better outcomes in those areas.

One thing about Mullins staying that could play a factor is because he hit one of the most famous shots in NCAA tournament history, he will be one of the faces of college basketball next year. A lot of NIL from not just UConn, but from advertisers as well is my guess.

Feel like that plays a part compared to coming back compared some of these other potential lotto picks who arent nationally known like him.

Yes, the conclusion from the Hawkins experience isn't "Hawkins should have stayed."

It's "Hawkins is severely limited and fortunate he duped NBA GMs when he could."

A number of people here that haven't caught on - his decision making process has many considerations. One may be another program giving him twice as much, willing to feature him in an offense that's less mechanical. Doubt that happens, but who knows. The portal era is pure chaos.
Are you just throwing as much crap as you can think of at a wall to see what may stick?

Unless Braylon (and his father) have been lying for months, he loves it here, he loves the system we run and he loves playing for Dan Hurley. If he decides to remain in college it would be a stunning turn of events for him to go to another school.

Someone could easily post on here that a top freshman (you pick - Dybansta; Boozer) may foregone the draft and transfer here. Technically that could happen, but in the world we live in it isn't worth considering as it is basically an impossibility. The same can be said for the trash you posted.

Sure but what are the odds of that when they have a high mm 3 year deal in the NBA waiting? It’s much more possible that some booster from cash rich Indiana calls his dad and says they’ll give him x dollars to play his final year in Bloomington. Indiana riding high from football and desperate to get hoops back in track after watching their own Dusty lead UM to the title.

Again highly unlikely.

What happened to Hawkins in the nba
I don’t watch a lot of the Pelicans. But looking at his numbers, they probably expected a little more shooting. He’s been below the league average so far from 3. And defense may play into it as well.

It's not Indiana I'd be worried about.
