I thick one can conclude without dissent (hopefully) that:

1. Chong is the better long range shooter
2. Although she had a sub-par game, Mo is much more a point.
3. Chong seems to be the successor to Hartley (incoming freshman not taken into consideration).
4. Both may very well become stars.

Thank goodness for online streaming. I finally get to watch games other than the prime time games.

I like both kids game a lot. In fact I feel this team is remarkably polished at this point of the season with only one player struggling - BB understandable given she has just begun playing games.

I echo your list. I would add that Mo will be a better defender and greater disrupter of other teams offensive flow. But Saniya has really impressed me with the improvement she made from the first exhibition game.

Strong agreement on the streaming. Yay!

And also agree on disruption. Moriah is very aggressive in attacking the passing lanes and dribblers without losing her balance & ability to return to guarding if she isn't successful in getting the ball loose. I theorize her small build aids in that regard. Even if not successful, I've gotta believe it gets in the opponent's head.

Truth is that her shot does not fit either well but is rather something of a hybrid.

No, it's not.

It's like many other young women who learned to shoot that way to shoot the ball longer distances.

But by any definition of jump shot, she has it.

Not by "any" definition just the ones you like. I gave you another one. Many probably most young girls do not shoot jump shots but some type of hybrid for exactly the issue of not being strong enough. By shooting it as they do whether they jump or not is largely irrelevant they are initiating the shot from the chin or below in a classic set shot position gaining strength from engaging chest, upper arm muscles and, yes, sometimes legs. The classic jump shot is shot from the crown of the brow using legs, the triceps and extensor digitorum. There is little to no use of chest muscles at all.

Classic jump shot form? Very few women have that. It doesn't make the others a hybrid.

And it's certainly not a set shot, which is what you called her shot.

Most definitions of a set shot refer two two things.

Two hands shooting the ball.
No jumping involved.

No. Chong releases the ball with movement from her chin and collar bone to a point out in front of her face and on trajectory. It is never over her head but is released higher than her head. And as I said uses a different bio mechanics working from different muscle groups.

There is a section of the Stanford game starting at about 12:25 on the game clock where first Stef and then Saniya take shots and the difference between the shots overhead from the brow vs below the chin can be seen ending at about 11:45 on the game clock. It is easy to recognize the different muscle groups used in each shot.

Stef's classic jump shot and release is 15+" higher than her head and swings forward at the elbow forward at release. When saying overhead I mean over her head I do not mean just higher than her head but literally over it and above her head having started at her forehead while in contrast Saniya starts at and slightly below her chin extending forward and up to a point forward and about even to the top of her head or 4-6" higher than her head (but significantly forward) depending on the moment of release which is between frames. It is more push than swing. The ball is never directly over her head. The best view of Saniya's ball position and movement is at 12:50-12:44 on the game clock where she is completely broadside to the camera angle. Clearly, Saniya never has the ball "over" top of her head like Stef, Kaleena, Maya, Diana, Caroline, etc. and the motion moves forward on trajectory to the basket with a push.

No, you are wrong.

The ball doesn't leave her hand until it is over her head. I'm looking at the Stanford game right now. She starts the ball at her chin, jumps and release it when the ball is higher than the top of her head.

I have stepped though the video several times and I know what I am looking at.

No. The answer is you have been wrong on this the entire time.

I'm looking at her second three in the Stanford game. She 100% is still I contact with the ball and it's over her head.

I'm not blind, and I do understand what a jump shot is.
 
Her second 3 is exactly the segment I referenced you to with Stef's shot proceeding it.

No problem, JRRRJ, my thinking was that it is possible for folks to learn something from the mechanics involved and watching the video.
 
Jump shot, set shot, dictionary definitions, coaching videos. What a bunch of pompous blowhards. I couldn't care if she started the shot at her iliac crest. Does it go in? YES!!!!! BOOM!!!!!! That is all that matters.

Saniya's 3 pointer is much like Tiff's in that she shoots it from a low position. It is blockable once opponents realize they must defend her. To date they are laying off of Saniya as much as they are off of MoJeff. Remember after she made those first two 3s the defense changed and we did not see any more. Reports are that MoJeff makes her shot regularly in practice so it is likely it will come along in the game, too.

Opponents cannot play very far off of either MoJeff or Saniya because doing so leaves them vulnerable off the bounce. Playing off a little helps but not playing off as far as cheat help defense requires. Both will exploit anyone attempting to lay off too far of either. Both, also, go very well to left and right and with the current emphasis on touch fouls before will go to the line frequently with anyone who tries to impede them at speed while recovering. Finally, both shoot their free throws very well. Geno has an embarassment of blessings in these two.

But unless MoJeff further sprains her ankle or cannot go for another reason Saniya is not replacing her as the strating PG.

I watched a lot of Saniyas games in high school. Her release is a little below the shoulder but it is lightning quick. I can count on one hand the number of times someone impeded her 3 point shot. Her transition from dribble to shot or pass to shot is remarkably quick and fluid. Just watch her shooting motion against Stanford. There are a bunch of YouTube videos of Saniya killing teams from 3 over and over even thou they knew how good a shooter she was. NCAA be warned.
