You're making Hurley's point for him. He's saying that in any of these clips if that player had the ball it would be called a foul, but just because they don't refs ignore the grabbing, pulling, and hugging. And he's saying it hurts us more than most teams because of how we play.
So we want special calls for us because of our style of play?

Ball does the arm raise thing, but he probably needs to take a page from Stevie Mitchell and just fall over.
He raises his arm but he’s not attacking the grab. Attacking those kind of things forces a ref to make a call because he’ll want to stop the hand fighting.

Not going to the media crying about it after every game.

I read article, and to some point I sympathize with his view, at the same time:

  • we are +5/6 a game because of Johnson and Reed.
  • we do not play driving iso type of game that would draw more fouls, as they are being called
  • we shoot a lot of threes.
  • our guards get beat and grab

As a result, I think a lot of the discrepancy we see, given the way the game is being called can be explained by style of play vs ref conspiracy.

We want the rule book to be enforced. Not just on a Samson moving screen but also when our guys are getting grabbed going around a pick. Our offense uses a lot of screens and movement and the grabbing impedes that movement and our offense in a disproportionate manner.

i'm assuming teams that are playing us are coached to get away with as much tugging and pulling as possible early in the game until they start calling it (if they do).
Who was the NFL coach who told his CB's to just mug the WR's becasue the officials couldn't call them all - Belichek?
Kind of reminds me of that.

Belichick’s defenses against the Colts offenses in the early 2000s played very physically, including during the routes. The Colts complained incessantly to the league, and were primarily responsible for getting the illegal contact rule implemented.

I was amazed he held off so long after having Moore mugging everyone in front of him without a call. And I don’t even mind telling the stiff “……don’t turn your back on me.”
What came after that was ridiculous.

I've never coached, I haven't read the NCAA rule book. But I have watched quite a bit of MCBB, and in games where I have no preference to the outcome I have concluded anymore, that I have no idea what constitutes a foul, a charge or a block, an illegal screen etc. The refs in all leagues have become so inconsistent that it causes me to question the conspiracy theories like this.

As a UConn fan, I'm looking at the the non calls that I see all too often committed by the team we're playing against. I objectively think the refs are using two different sets of eyes at the other end of the court. I don't know if its ineptitude or dishonest effort, but it's undeniably happening.
Anecdotally for me at least, zebra competency has decreased a level. You see it in football as well.

No, no we don’t want special calls and that’s not what he’s saying. You’re trying way too hard to prove a point when in fact the clips include both a combination of touches that I agree would be soft if called, and others that are blatant holds and obvious fouls. It’s ok if more generally you think complaining about it is soft, but don’t pretend you don’t see some of them and in the process of pretending deny it’s happening.
