When Geno leaves we will fall back to being more like Quinnipiac and our AAC brethren.
The AAC has some relatively powerful schools in it, in case we've forgotten. It also still is a springboard into the "P5" nonsense. Notice UConn is unhappy with the most recent media contract.

Not in women’s basketball
Other schools, such as UCF, are extremely ambitious.

Using this platform to further develop their programs. Hope Cincy keeps their newfound gold.

Nonsense. UConn will remain a top program in WCBB under Geno's successor. Falling back to Quinnipiac? Don't think so.

Yeah but once Geno is done, we will revert to the mean of our environment which is the AAC. We're never getting into a P5. Long term I'd guess we're more likely to see contraction (or reorg) versus expansion in the power conferences as the media dollars stagnate or start to dry up.

At least Geno won't hand pick his successor.

I don't know. Geno has a lot of influence. His opinion would be valued. Maybe he could force his choice on the AD, as we saw when Jim Calhoun, maneuvered the AD into his choice K.O.
And we know how that worked out.

For many of the Vol faithful, the next coach must be connected to the program and Pat. Maria is one of those.
And if an unconnected coach comes in from Ethiopia and starts winning 27-30 games a year, the faithful including Maria will be too busy waving their pom-poms and celebrating to care where the coach is from.

This defeatist attitude is ridiculous when everyone but our own fans think we're bound to eventually join the P5. Hard to believe how ignorant our own fans are about trends.

Please, go cheer for LA Tech or ODU.

This is Walz trying to shift media attention (distraction) away from him and his players on to someone (anyone) else. Holly would have a better chance of being rehired at double her former salary than Geno ever going there.

I can't think of anyone more maligned and reviled this side of the sun by Vol Nation than Geno. Not only that, they don't like him. Walz is trying to defuse the media attention he's getting about the UT coaching vacancy...............................for now, at least until the season is over. After the confetti falls, they turn out the lights and everyone goes home, Walz may be singing a different tune. We'll see.

"Tennessee Director of Athletics Phillip Fulmer announced Wednesday that Lady Vols basketball coach Holly Warlick has been relieved of her duties."

Wow!! They didn't even give her a chance to resign. Didn't even give her the opportunity to negotiate a face-saving withdrawal! After all those years of service to the UT WCBB program, they just went in and canned her butt. And then they announced that a "national search" was already under way. In other words, they'd begun looking for a replacement even before they fired her!

Cold! Really cold! She underperformed, she wasn't cut out to be a head coach, and it was time to let her go. But Tennessee should have done this with a little bit of class. Just a little!

Of is that asking too much of Tennessee?
Those of us who are looking for equality between the sexes, especially in athletics, should take comfort in the fact that she was treated as shabbily as dozens and dozens of male football and basketball coaches are every year.

Husky fan, I 'm not aware of any ground swell, of anyone in the administration, trying to lure Geno to UT....That seems extremely bizarre.....

A straw poll was taken and Waltz was the big winner.....Fan bases always think they know more than anyone else.....Waltz has a good gig with Louisville, not sure why he would want our headaches...

The mystery of who will be the LV coach, will most likely be resolved, after the tournament ends, not before.

The only facts we know for sure is that she is having her contract honored including receiving a significant $M+ payout. Wish all my former companies treated me this poorly.

Kind of a snarky thing to say. He might have smiled, but just suggests that he can't come clean about his own future and what he might do to his own Louisville program.

Not classy.

......................and NO!! Geno does NOT look good in orange. Why is he dragging Geno into to this?!?
He's full of it!! His bags are packed and setting by the door.

In tone and delivery, Walz's reference to Geno is entirely in line with both of their humorous quips over the years-- not to be taken seriously, but with a smile.

Tenn reporting it's 1 year base of $700k. It was the AD's way of trying to defuse anticipated criticism for giving her an extension last year by looking tough. Turned out to be useful.

Plus he addresses the issue, while appearing to dismiss it as to himself. Clever, as well as humorous.

That's very, very funny! LOL. But no really accurate. Find one post loss press conference that had one pointed question flung her way. Had she been treated like her male counterparts in men's ball and football she'd have been out of there maybe 3 years ago. Frankly, given her brittle nature and inability to hand even her soft ball presser questions, some heat on her may have had her leave voluntarily quite some time ago.
