Holly Warlick set to receive contract extension

Congrats. It's what Pat would have wanted. The fans of programs like Tennessee and UConn need to get used to the idea that they aren't going to be able to win 100 games in a row or half of the championships anymore. There's simply too much talent to go around now unlike even ten years ago.
Who cares about winning 100 in a row?

The question for me is whether this is a cosmetic extension or whether Tennessee is genuinely committing to her.

I can the argument for either. A lot of departments would be ok with a legacy coach who consistently recruits well and makes the tournament. On the other hand, she does seem to be underachieving and not living up to the past standard.

Still maybe the AD sees Summitt's run as unrealistic for Tennessee in the current era and thinks she is on target to contend seriously here and there.

You also have to disagree with ESPN as well which rated UTenn's 2017 class #1 :)

2017 Women's Basketball Class Rankings

No fan of UTenn for sure, but inaccurate assertions bring forth corrections on this board.

That was one year - as others have pointed out on this board, 2015 and 2016 were busts. 2018 is also not shaping up to be a leading recruiting class for them either. Once upon a time, TN got almost anyone they wanted and could pick and choose. That is no longer the case and others are now consistently getting better players.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good thread as Mark Twain always said (I know @bags27 will give us the true quote and origination), but your comments are not correct:
2013 Tennessee was ranked #3 with 3 recruits
2014 ranked #6 with 3 recruits
2015 ranked #13 with 2 recruits
2016 whiff
2017 ranked #1 with 4 recruits
2018 ranked #5/6 with 4 recruits.

Due to the miss in 2016, and the low number of recruits in 2015 (2) the numbers had to be upped the last to years (4 each) to fill out the roster. So ranking 3, 6, 13, -, 1, 5 seems to me to be pretty freakin good. I have put a snap shot of all the usual suspect. When a program didn't make Top 20, I used the number 20 to help get an average. There were some one hit wonders like UCLA, North Cheat, SC and Oregon. So as you can see, Tenn is fitting in well with the top programs. How to define success as Conference placement or NCAA results or developing All-Americans is subjective and is the indication of actual coaching. So for coaching criteria, my assessment from would be UConn, ND and Stanford shine. Louisville, Maryland and Baylor are next and Texas, Tenn and Duke fill in after that.

That doesn’t take into account #1/3 (depending on ratings service) Diamond DeShields who transferred in. Tenn had at least 2 top 5 players on the roster for 2 years (DeShields and Russell).
