Hockey Arena Groundbreaking/Progress

In the last 2 pictures it looks sooooo tiny. The latest doesn't even look big enough for a rink. Will be on campus tomorrow for my son's orientation. May have to drive down and check it out.
If you get in take some more pics. The Boneyard has a great tradition of on-campus spies.;)

I realize it would affect overall size and everything else but it seems like adding 2-3 more rows around the rink is such an easy task to add a few hundred more seats.

Agree. It doesn’t seem like it would materially add to the cost, but if that were true, I’m sure they would have done it. I’m hopeful that you are baked in places that can be expanded. I’m pretty sure Cavanaugh said as much. So, much as they did with Gampel, they can add seats and increase capacity.

Way too much activity to get good pics. I took some from a dirt mound across the street.

@Fairfield_1st Nice! We don’t generally get to see that front view.
As part of my "most excellent adventure", I toured Werth, Burton (but not Shenkman), Morrone Stadium, Elliott, Freitas and then the pics of the new rink. At some point I'll take the time to post my "adventure". Rizza was the only one I wanted to but couldn't get in.

The live cam hasn't been live for a while. Great video with Cav.
I thought the progress on the exterior seemed slow.

Seriously, does anybody know what’s up with that? I like checking in periodically and seeing progress.

It looks small but it’s gonna look great once it’s done. Can’t wait to hit the first game there.
Is Teds and Huskies and the Civic Pub still there (I kid about the pub, there’s no way the Pub is still around)

Doesn’t need to be huge. It needs to be loud and an AWFUL place for opponents to play. I’ve been to several other arenas. BC is much bigger but a morgue. I’ve been to Alfond which is definitely larger, but really loud and really nasty. Schneider at PC is in our range and can be loud but not always. Same with YaIe. I want to be closer to Maine than BC.

Alfond is roughly 2x the capacity of what UConn is building. UConn's rink is too small.

Looks nice. Should allow for a great game day environment.

As a non-Ct resident who isn't funding any of this, I still shake me head and think that was a lot of money for a rink and support offices that size.

Combination of donations, proceeds from the sale of West Hartford campus and UConn 2000 bonds.

Yeah, it was expensive for what we ended up getting. Not that I am complaining. I am grateful to have what is going to be a beautiful on campus facility.

I feel like the rendering had solid navy blue on that angled walkway. I’m glad they went with brick instead.
