Highlights from Summer workouts

Yeah, sorry the shooting thing is just flat out crazy. I love Martin but it's consistently a surprise when his jumpshots go in.

I know. But Polley is not Steph Curry. He can’t make a layup or a midrange shot or any 3 where he does anything but shoot uncontested off a catch. He makes really easy unguarded 3s at a high rate. I’m not sure that’s all that useful, when you don’t rebound and can’t guard anyone. I truly hope to see him at his best. Ironically, his best game was his injury game. He was actually showing something more.

I’m no Polly fanboy but I also think people tend to forget he was coming off ACL surgery and had a bout of covid.

Yup, there is a better chance of Polley being our top scorer than there is of him not earning any minutes.

Another thing we know about Polley is that he has improved every season. Expect the best version of him in 2022.

Not true. He was much better defensively earlier in his career and last year was his worst year as a shooter. It could be the ACL but that’s now a pretty minor and common injury.

Was he not BE sixth man of the year? I guess in your opinion the award was an accident. Saying UCONN's best shooter and defending BE sixth man of the year will struggle to earn minutes is a very hot take. He needs to come in and earn his minutes no doubt (as does everyone else) but for him not to do so will be a huge upset.

If the team gets to the final four as we all hope it will expect Polley to be hitting big shots to help get us there.

He won that award based on 2 games. He won the Marquette game for us and was great the next game against Butler (without Bouk). Wasn't super impactful most of the rest of the season. If he doesn't catch fire that Marquette game, no way he wins that award. It also must've been a down year for bench guys in the league; averaging 7.5 ppg normally shouldn't win that award.

With all that being said, he's our best "microwave" like shooter and can really give us an offensive spark off the bench when he's on. Hoping that a full year recovered from the ACL injury will help and he's a 42-45% guy from 3. If he can do that and be consistent, we'll be a much better basketball team.

It may be minor and common as for the medical procedure, but the players still have to clear the mental hurdle. Last year he had that to deal with, but this year should be better.

It may be common but it’s definitely not minor. Just because medical procedures have advanced so guys come back sooner and closer to 100% does.not lessen the impact on the mind or body. It’s a tough rehab Not a sprained ankle so some lingering effects are expected

I truly hope Polley sees PT but that will mean he has improved because the team as a whole appears to be more physical and of a higher talent level
All those except the 6"9" very well could be a was
His D is lazy and non existent at best 95% of the time
Time will tell - he is a true Husky - that you can't argue

He's not lazy on D. Tyler works hard always. He's actually a more than good "team" defender in team schemes. He does lack in foot speed and/or lateral movements one on one when he's faced with a matchup where the guy he's guarding is decent off the bounce. In those instances Tyler can, and has been, eaten up.

But lazy? I don't think so. He also, toward the end of last year, showed a little rebounding toughness and acumen.

Yeah, I'm one his bigger critics and I wouldn't call him lazy. He's simply limited. He's out there guarding 3s who are quicker and can blow by him, especially if he is asked to guard them tight. He needs to use his length to alter shots and lay back a bit. He lacks the strength and toughness to guard most 4s on the interior, although he's decent against those that live on the perimeter (did a good job on McDuffie in the past). He'd benefit from UConn not sending a shot blocking 5 outside, as that's when his man often attacks the rim (same for Gaff).

He has rebounded better in stretches, but he doesn't regularly block anybody out. His per 40 rebound rate (3.8) was below everyone on the team except Gaffney last year, including Cole. He was 5.1 two years ago, and was really picking it up when he got hurt. Three years ago he was astonishingly bad at 3.3 per 40.

Akok is gunna be all big east and a MONSTER this season. I really think even though we are losing a lottery pick we can be better than last season. I think a few dudes are gunna make some nice jumps and I also think all 3 freshman will contribute especially Hawkins and Diggins

Polley also is kinda clutch. Kinda

canadian what GIF by CBC

He gets PT as the best shooter on the team and being 6'9 and the Big East 6th man of the year.
he averaged 7.5 points a game on 36% shooting and 35% 3 pt shooting and 2 rebounds in 20 min per game. Cole and Gaffney are better % 3 point shooters than him with Whaley just behind him
