I agree on Blair. I met him after a game at USC. Wonderful person. I am going to add Sherry Coale from OU. Never met her but she always came across as polite and friendly.

I agree on Coale. I started to mention her but didn't want to seem too Big 12 slanted.

McCallie is not Wooden at all. Met her once and had a very nice conversation and laughed very freely. Watched her in the Big Ten for several years a PSU games. She is always intense and focused on the sidelines and knows her stuff. I really like her as a coach. Her record at Duke has over an .800 winning percentage.

Do you mean John Wooden?

. After all, if JPM can come in and recruit with her stone-faced personality virtually any coach could have.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I dont have a problem with JPM's personality. Conversely I dont care for Mulkey one bit, she's quite annoying.

Never cared for her, probably never will, unless she cures cancer...or baldness.

First the barb at JPM..... and now this about Coach G. Tell us what you think about Debbie Leonard

I don't know about GG to know if she'd be "cultural fit" at USC. I tend to agree that the Texas gig was incredibly difficult and Nan pointed out that probably only someone like Summitt could have stepped in and made it work (or maybe a Southern guy like Barmore, or maybe even Blair, or Coale as someone mentioned). Either way I think GG's tenure there was probably doomed for failure.

Sure the "Duke" name is somewhat able to recruit itself, but Duke was nothing before GG got there so I think she deserves a ton of credit for what she started. I know some Duke fans don't like JPM, but you can't deny she's been recruiting like gangbusters, in spite of running 2 terrific assistants (Stafford-Odom and Williams) out the door.

Anyway, I think GG could be a great fit at USC. it's a school with a lot of potential for a coach to take it to the next level.

I think this "cultural fit" thing is overrated. Who here thought Geno was a good "cultural fit" for circa 1985 UConn? The usual reason for looking for a new coach is under the previous coach the team was losing and something needs to change to field a competitive team. It seems to me, if you want change, you need someone who is at least in some ways "different."

I was gonna say Northwestern could be a fit for Coach G, but then i remembered its the Men's program that has an opening not the women's  Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Duke have had success through the years in WCBB to some degree... but never Northwestern. Perhaps it will open up again in the near future.

If I'm USC, I consider hiring a coach from one of the AAU programs that are dominat in the State of California or one of Tara's assistants. Gail couldn't recruit in Texas and don't see how she will in California.

Sorry, Triad. I have great respect for the Duke program and the players that have come through it. I yell for Duke in most games and I love seeing Jones doing so well.

I have not been a fan of JPM ever since the 2005 FF when she refused to mention the Baylor players by name and would only refer to them by their jersey numbers. I thought it was disrespectful. And some of her comments after the blowout did not give Baylor the credit it deserved. She just came across as a bit bitter about the loss and was lacking in professionalism. Her recent unprofessional tweets just cemented my opinion of her.

When UT hired GG I thought "oh crap, now I have just another reason not to like Texas." They paid her loads of money and got basically nothing in return.

And I can see how fans of opponents don't like Mulkey. I probably wouldn't either. She is one of those people that you love if she is on your team but hate if she is not.

I am not a big fan of JPM, but calling players by their jersey numbers is not necessarily a sign of disrespect. I've seen coaches do it before and never really though much of it. When you are in the game and you are telling your players to cover someone, you would probably say "Cover No. 33!" and not "Cover Young!"

Not trying to make excuses for JPM, but calling players by their jersey number is not something I would consider disrespectful, especially after a terrible loss.

Hopefully not. Joe McKeon has been bugged by injuries in his efforts to turn the program around; also, he did have a star player, recruited before he got there, and is now is the post-her era. Joe is a very, very nice gentleman and a class act, as well as being considered a good coach. I'm pulling for him.

I'm not a great fan of JPM, influenced by my wife. Had to do with RU's NCAA game out at Michigan State, but I don't remember the details, it bothered the Mrs. more than me.

I am ambivalent about GG. Great success, but sometime a deer in the headlight look, too. I did think she got a bum deal at Texas. Would take her at RU post CVS in a heartbeat.

As to Mulkey - my wife has convinced me, every time she speaks she says just the right thing. The only thing I don't care for is the sideline antics, and incessant whining at the refs. As was mentioned on the board a month or so ago, don't enjoy the whining from any of the collection of coaches that do it endlessly.

It was not during the game...it was in interviews. In the game, of course.

Quite frankly, here comments made it sound as if Baylor was a team full of nobodys that should not have been able to compete with her team.

Heck... seems like JPM offended Baylor fans, some RU fans... and we know some Maryland fans. If she manages to offend some UNC, and Tennessee fans...... she might end up being my favorite coach of all time ;)

I disagree on that one. I recall her whining after last years Sweet 16 game about Ga Tech leaving its starters in, after Mulkey pulled hers.

? Geno's from the Northeast and UConn is in the Northeast. CT's proximity to NY City made it easy for Nutmeggers to learn to love his sarcasm. And although they may not admit it, Geno and Calhoun were cut from the same bolt of cloth - intense and sarcastic, but basically warmhearted guys.

Coach G could have been very successful at Texas, but she didn't hire the right assistant coaches. None had ties to the state of Texas. Hiring Lakale Malone from Nebraska was a huge head-scratcher as I don't think she brought anything unique to the table. I thought DeMoss was a great hire at the time, but didn't turn out that way. Also, Coach G's preference to have a small roster (well below 15) of scholarship players really hurt her team when injuries and transfers occurred.

While I'm not a fan of the Karen Aston hire for Texas, what she did do right was hire an assistant coach with AAU connections in the state; all you have to do is look at the commitments Texas has for the 2014 and 2015 classes and you can see the huge difference. If Coach G had done something similar, she might still be at Texas.

I do think Coach G will surface again; but, I think the east coast or midwest would be better for her than the West coast.

I always liked Coach G...but I think she belongs at a place with a very strong academic ambiance...not that UT doesn't, but well... anyway, I think she'd be great in one of the Ivies.
